vulnerability? why is helplessness good apart from making him easier?
in comparison to Spanish James Bond With Daggers and Assorted Leather Goods, a good sense of humour which is also REAL, massive confidence and some ambition?
suppose your opinion is more valid than mine doesnt mean i have to like it though ;s
isnt confidence GOOD in a guy?
Vulnerability isn't helplessness. Entirely different things.
Love makes a personal vulnerable to another human being's opinion about them. It matters. You care more than you should. It was an excellent portrayal of falling in love and how that becomes paramount to someone's experience of the world.
I can't stand James Bond. Doesn't need anybody, doesn't want any input, doesn't care and will slit your throat if it suits his purpose. He wants to be alone and I'd happily let him. No intimacy, only him trying to be cool all the time. Ugh.
There's no point in being bound to a person who doesn't need you. And need is specific. Zevran doesn't need the PC as much. He could go or he could stay. Alistair's life depends on you and he's counting on you to get him through. Having someone's quivering heart put in your hands so you can safeguard it is a powerful thing. It's not weakness, it's just the nature of truly loving someone and going all in. Alistair's the only one who goes all in.

He's somewhat good-looking, and I'll bet the fact that you can flirt with him a bit helps. He is also a generally upright (as in "honorable") person.

It's just how Isolde says his name. If I could get someone with a french accent to hold my vowels, I'd be like 10x hotter.RunCDFirst wrote...

Women tend to be nurturers more than guys do. They also like to be able to manipulate men into doing what they want. The dislike for Zev probably comes from, well, every greasy, lying, cheating guy that the women have ever met. And there are a lot of those in the world. Which is not to say the female version doesn't exist.
Genuine, sincere people tend to prefer other genuine, sincere people. The Zevs of the world make things difficult and overcomplicated. And, while confidence is good, a healthy sense of humor is what does it for women who don't gravitate to brooding, self-torturing bad boys. Or whiny vampires that sparkle.
Any woman out there feels like I'm wrong, though, enlighten me. I'm speaking from my own experience here.

You hit the nail on the head completely.
In conversations with Zev too, he says one thing but clearly means another (you'll get disapprovals from him after seemingly innocuous discussions where he gives you no indication that anything's wrong). BLEH, man, just say what you mean
Aggggh, sparkly vampires.

I seen so many forum where the ladies are going crazy over him now my sister like if only he was a real man It's disturbing as he's made of pixels.
What is it you ladies like about him so much?
Don't worry, I'm not one of them. He's funny and all but, as Our dear Painted Elf would say. " I have rather different appitite than most"
Though I do tend to be more...playfully abusive to him. Reminds me more of one of my guy pals who comes over once a week for games/beer/bad movies... Who also gets pretty abused and teasted. so, yeah Alister falls intot he friend zone, with no hopes of ever climbing beyond that " I'll wait until my spouse playes to see if he gets romanced then, I just can't do it " lol

Zevran really is kind of fragile in his own way. He just has harder, thicker barriers to defend himself with. Alistair will make the occasional deflecting joke, but is truly genuine and feels like he can open up to you pretty early on. Zevran is also genuine, but it takes quite a bit more effort to break down his walls I think.
It's true Zevran is the kind of the mysterious, brooding (except he covers his brooding with humor) bad boy that pretty much every single woman goes for for YEARS AND YEARS until you realize you can't change that type of guy (takes us all awhile to realize you can't change anyone). You have to accept him for what he is.
Then, we find someone like Alistair and it's a breath of fresh air to be immediately let in and accepted and not have to play any games.
So the Zevran relationship is satisfying if you're willing to play the game a little to get to his heart.
Alistair is satisfying because without any games whatsoever he just opens your hand up and hands you his heart. (...gross image)

What happens with Zevran's romance? My first playthrough started on it, but then again he was playing everyone for a while. He would have romanced Alistair if he could have. So it never went anywhere. None of my subsequent characters have even bothered trying since he creeps me right the hell out with how aggressively playful he is.Badpie wrote...

I think I'm one of the few girls who got annoyed with Alistair's emotional narcissism. The humorous aspects of his personality are definitely enjoyable and he is very well written, but beyond that he is a terribly naive, idealistic romance option. By "idealistic" I don't mean ideally perfect, I mean he acts like your PC is ideally perfect in a way that just screams "I have no idea how relationships work."
I know it's a videogame, but let's say Alistair were a real person with all of the traits displayed in game. You know what you would end up with irl? A nice guy, surely enough, but also a guy who can't stand up for himself or get over his crappy childhood. The type of guy that will look to you as a surrogate parent, sucking you dry mentally and emotionally for as long as he can. Yuck.

Err, you're joking, right? I thought people tended not to like Isolde and many actually snark about the way she says his name. They certainly aren't enchanted by it.

I don't know. The idea of playing a whole game with Alistair just...standing there the whole time but I'm going to wait for Zevran so I can pry his final bits of text from him doesn't appeal to me.
He's one of those characters that I dread asking him questions. They're not boring and he's not bad...
he's just not...my type. Whereas I'll hang on every word of Shale and Alistair and Oghren and Sten. Who are much more the type of friend or person I'd rather hang out with, and I find myself smiling during conversations with them much more than thinking "Eeeew." I approach talking to him like I approach talking to Ruck.
Something about Lel and Zev both...you know...sleeping with people and killing them for a living make me...unable to trust them in game. Again, they're too polished and the actors don't sell it as well, I guess. It never comes through to me as a romance, more of an achievement. And it's not FUN for me.
I'm curious about that last story he won't tell and the girl who the Guardian asked him about, but ultimately not inspired to spend 100 hours finding out.
