Just what the title says. Seriously, I've never had a game lock up on me so much. Not even Skyrim gave me this much greif.
Not to mention that I can't install the game to my HDD. I always get the 'dirty/scratched' disc error. It even gave me that error when I first unwrapped it. I can assure you it's not dirty/scratched. So sadly I have to play off the disc.
I estimate that the game locked up on me at least 20 times during my first playthrough. I've been keeping count with my second one. I'm at the point in the game where I've got all 3 missions opened up on Tuchanka, and it's locked up on me 15 times since I've started. FIFTEEN!!
As I said, I don't have a problem with any of my other games. Skyrim has locked up a couple times.
C'mon guys.

I get that loads. Started during my first playthrough and got progressively worse.

Been even worse during my second playthrough. I had to give up tonight because I was fed up with it freezing.

Do you get it at certain points? For me, it's generally when loading an area or a save, although sometimes it will freeze in the Journal or Menu.

I am on the same boat for both games actually. I lost track of how many times my PS3 version of Skyrim crashed. I even have the same problem with ME 3 on the 360 where it's like I die at the start of the Cerberus base on Horizon and then GAME CRASH! It happens EVERY TIME! There are numerous spots it seems where the game seems to crash if you die and I don't know why the game does that. I seem to have better luck with multiplayer for some random reason.

I have the exact same problem also. I first had problems with the game not starting at all for a couple of days after playing ME3 for about 3 hours. But for some reason the game started to work again yesterday.

The only problem is that the game will lock up constantly. I player for about 4 hours again yesterday and ME3 froze about 30 to 40 times to the point where it is almost unplayable. It will lock up diring cut scenes,during combat, if I am just standing around and it does it everywhere.

The same problem happened to me! The console freezes on average every hour. Sometimes I can only play for 15/20 minutes before having to restart the console. Install disks is useless. I tried a dozen of my old games and they all work perfectly (so not a problem of the console!). Often the blocks happens during the loading screens but I've noticed that happen many times during the more "hectic" scenes (explosions for example) or when you enter a new area.

I begin to wonder if there maybe is a secret achievement "You froze Mass Effect a hundred times" Anyone know if this already is beeing investigated by Bioware?

It may be the fault of the CD player laser, in fact after a while, the pulley to the CD (where you put the cd in short) is loosened ...

No, even if you install both cd does not change anything! There is not a problem of the console, I had the same problems with two different consoles (fat 20 gb & slim 250gb) and i tried also two different set of disk (collecton edition & normal edition) AND two different Microsoft Live Accounts AND two different set of imported files from Mass Effect 1&2. I think it's a problem of data stream or something else...

It just happens when it happens. Loading screens, during battle, during conversations, opening a door on the Normandy, looking at my journal/codex/save menu. It's gotten to the point where I can only play for 20-40 minutes before it locks up.
Hopefully this will be addressed in a patch soon. At this stage it's pretty ridiculous.

I have a standard XBOX 360 with service date 28-02-2009 and a 120gb HDD.

Oddly mine appears to crash less when I uninstalled it from the HDD. Theres def more problems on my second playthrough than the first time through at release.

I tried playing the game directly from disc and from HDD but in both cases the game will freeze constantly. I also set the music to 0 and for a moment it looked like ME3 would work properly but in the end it did not make a difference. So hopefully someone from Bioware can inform us if it is going to be patched.

Haven't you heard? Bioware doesn't care about bugs that make the game unplayable. They only care about faces importing wrong and bugs that block off one sidequest.

Also, this happens on the PS3 version as well, so it's not the console, it's the actual game just being programmed by monkeys.

List of major bugs:

1- Black Hole Screen at startup
2- Continuos lock-up/Unable to read disk/Freezing screens on Multy/Single
3- Poor framerate on PS3 version
4- ALL, repeat ALL COPIES selled in Italy don't have "Grissom Academy Mission" (yeah, the patch is out... but if you don't have the console connected?)
5- Sometimes Multiplayer progression/Achievements/DLC weapons disappear...
6- Face Import bug

Congratulation Bioware for a game "winner of more 75 perfect score"...
