BioWare and TOR Publishing are very pleased to announce author David Gaider's next novel Dragon Age: The Calling.

Synopsis:

Having reclaimed the throne, King Maric finally allows the legendary Grey Wardens to return to Ferelden after two hundred years of exile. When they come, however, they bring dire news: one of their own has escaped into the Deep Roads and aligned himself with their ancient enemy, the monstrous darkspawn. The Grey Wardens need Maric’s help to find him. He reluctantly agrees to lead them into the passages he traveled through years before, chasing after a deadly secret that will threaten to destroy not only the Grey Wardens, but also the Kingdom above.

To learn more about the new novel, to download a cool desktop wallpaper of the cover art and to download the 2 halves of chapter 1, please visit this link: http://dragonage.bio...m/game/product/

This thread is to discuss the new novel until it becomes available. Once it is on store shelves, we will create a "Spoilers" thread where people can discuss the plot and story of the book.

Edit: Part 2 of Chapter One is now available.

Also, would a dog have to go through the Joining at all?  I mean, they drink darkspawn blood regularly just by attacking, don't they?

As Remille pointed out in the book, all it really takes is a concentrated dose of the blight -- which the recipient must then survive. The ritual itself is mostly pageantry, and performed to ensure that the potential Grey Warden receives a large enough dose to actually work, as opposed to only enough to infect them.

It's doubtful that they would put a dog through the Joining ritual. A dog that got a large enough dose of the taint, however, and which was healthy enough and strong enough to actually survive it could potentially gain the same benefits as a Grey Warden.

The codex entry from Alistair specifies he was sent to Redcliffe to hide him from the Arl's sister i.e. Rowan.

I would point out that the codex entries are not intended to be omniscient. They are generally stories, and in the case of the character codexes are based on what that character has "told you" or what they themselves believe. It's possible you are right, I'm not suggesting otherwise, but I'd be cautious in treating the codex as gospel.

But, why is it that everyone who join Grey Wardens have a tragic life in the book?

It's because they are all outsiders, in their way. Outsiders naturally gravitate towards the Grey Wardens.

I cry my way though the Fade part in the story.

Me too. Nicolas's dream was very hard for me to write. Image IPB

Also, King Maric has more than two children, right?

I guess anything is possible, sure.

Oh btw, I wanted to know , in what languages these books are? only in english?

As far as I'm aware, the Stolen Throne has been translated into German, French, Spanish and Polish. I don't think the Calling has been translated yet.
