BioWare and TOR Publishing are very pleased to announce author David Gaider's next novel Dragon Age: The Calling.

Synopsis:

Having reclaimed the throne, King Maric finally allows the legendary Grey Wardens to return to Ferelden after two hundred years of exile. When they come, however, they bring dire news: one of their own has escaped into the Deep Roads and aligned himself with their ancient enemy, the monstrous darkspawn. The Grey Wardens need Maric’s help to find him. He reluctantly agrees to lead them into the passages he traveled through years before, chasing after a deadly secret that will threaten to destroy not only the Grey Wardens, but also the Kingdom above.

To learn more about the new novel, to download a cool desktop wallpaper of the cover art and to download the 2 halves of chapter 1, please visit this link: http://dragonage.bio...m/game/product/

This thread is to discuss the new novel until it becomes available. Once it is on store shelves, we will create a "Spoilers" thread where people can discuss the plot and story of the book.

Edit: Part 2 of Chapter One is now available.

Should it be already available translated (in French in this case) or would I better go for the English version if I want to read it right away (as I understood (from Amazon) that there was quite a delay in the Frozen Throne case) ?

If you appreciate the lore in the game, especially about the Grey Wardens, you should read The Calling, no doubt about it.

For sure it will help you know more about Loghain, Maric, and Calian and possibly the Archnemesis.

Lore is good, no question about it. The book however is not.

Got it from Amazon when i got home last night, started reading...

Finished the book at 3am... Got to say it was a good read and in my opinion better than the first. It was certainly more suited to it's size, the Stolen Throne felt a little rushed as you progressed through the second half to the conclusion. The pacing in The calling was great...

It was fun to see the return on some characters and the introduction of new ones (espcially ones that may turn up in the game)...

For a story that was essentially a dungeon crawl with epic overtones it was really well written in my opinion. Loved the characterisations and again the inclusion of modern terms and perspectives on a medieval fantasy world. They were less jarring this time around, possibly because I was expecting them maybe.

Great ending, some of it caught me by surprize...

Of course it is my opinion, what else would it be? :)

If you're interested I can get into the details of what I don't like about The Calling.

As for Amazon reviews, keep in mind that there are three (3) of them and all are written by the members of this forum. I believe we constitute what would be called a friendly audience. :)
