i have a question though
in the end of the story u see Kell and Hafter lead the darkspawn off so the others can escape Kell himself says he may be able to avoid them for a short time
then it is assumed he is dead but no body is found
do you believe we will either encounter the site of his last stand or maybe even Kell himself in the game?

I wouldn't rule it out. If it is in there (at least, their final resting place) I will probably start sobbing my eyes out and need to take a break.
Also, would a dog have to go through the Joining at all? I mean, they drink darkspawn blood regularly just by attacking, don't they?

Same here. I totally choked up when Halfner wouldn't go with the others. I love dogs so much!Servant of Nature wrote...

Maybe the ceremony is more for the humanoid, rather than the dog. I mean you can't take a dog with you not knowing if he's going to die after the 1st battle. Its kinda like training police dogs or seeing eye dogs. This way you know they can perform.
But I have a feeling that we'll be in those same Deep Roads and I guess we'll find out what happened to Kell and Halfner afterall. From the sound of the Architect, they died.

maybe the cerimony takes the person choosing to undergo it u have to make the choice in body and mind....and hafter being intellegent he was able to make the choice........now i agree i will be teary eyed seeing the resting place of Kell and Hafter but image what the last stand will look like......two loyal friends surrounded by slain enemies.....nothing could make me want to salute my tv more

As Remille pointed out in the book, all it really takes is a concentrated dose of the blight -- which the recipient must then survive. The ritual itself is mostly pageantry, and performed to ensure that the potential Grey Warden receives a large enough dose to actually work, as opposed to only enough to infect them.Servant of Nature wrote...

It's doubtful that they would put a dog through the Joining ritual. A dog that got a large enough dose of the taint, however, and which was healthy enough and strong enough to actually survive it could potentially gain the same benefits as a Grey Warden.

well maybe David will answer our question about Kell and Hafter.....they became my two favorite character because of how strongly they stood out to me in the novel without having many speaking parts. I would love to see them again or at least avenge them:police:

Yeah I hear ya. I powered through both books in an evening each. Luckily I have a crap-ton of Econ homework and the 2 Mass Effect books to get me through release (I hope).Eowil wrote...
What a great book. I was really hoping it would last me longer than a couple of days though. Can't wait to see how things come together in the game.
So what do you guys think about that shadow magic? And I take it that we don't have resurrection spells in the game?

If Alistair is Maric's bastard, maybe Duncan recruited him to make sure he would have no claim on the throne. I don't see why else he would recruit his friends (Fiona) son into what many think is a horrible life.
I like the idea of the Grey Wardens using Maric's bastard son as a political trump card and a way to gain power. Yet if Cailan does die, then wouldn't his wife be ruler of Ferelden?
I can't see how Loghain can possible betray Maric. He just doesn't seem like a guy who takes his loyalties lightly. I don't see him betraying Cailan either, since he is Rowan's son aswell.

As Fiona became completely immune to the blight, then I wonder if that immunity could have been passed down to her son.IronFoe wrote...

That's the exact page I am on...I thought the cookies part was funny too.Eshaye wrote...
lol!! I'm at page 162 right now so I still got a lot of reading to do, but just posting to point out I loved Duncan thinking to himself if the darkspawn taking over would be such a bad thing after all and then thinking that cookies would cease to exist and that alone was worth trying to stop them... XD
For the love of cookies!
Just after that is my favorite part so far..the campfire drinking scene...lots of Humor, but also touching, and get a piece of each characters past... neat part.

Thanks, must have missed that somehow - probably staying awake until 3 in the morning to finish the book didn't help my ability to take in the finer details. Think I'll go re-read it a little slower.mystupidmouth wrote...
I think Kell said that Hafter underwent the Joining too.
