Don't be so sure of that. Everything more or less fits, and I wouldn't put it past Bioware to pull something like having Alistair be Maric's son on us.IgotTheMeat wrote...
Alistair being Maric's kid? I don't think the Grey Wardens treat recruiting as an honor. What i took from the book is that upon becoming a Grey Warden the clock starts ticking. It is basically a death sentence. Now if you were Duncan and told to look after the king's kid, would it be a good idea to sentence him to death? No. Becoming a Grey Warden is a solemn and serious thing. It has implications. Therefore Alistair is not Maric's son.

When you upload your character, Bioware said they will give you that Ring which gives +1 to your stats. Anyone know how we are going to get this?

I've ordered Stolen Throne off amazon.co.uk but The Calling isn't on there, it's on Amazon.com though. How come we can't get it yet in the UK?
http://www.amazon.co...56071256&sr=8-1
It's there, but someone in another thread said he got the last one. There are a couple used ones availible.

edit: infact, I've just checked and those other sellers are shipping from the US or Canada. When will the book released in the UK?

That is really odd...Fodder007 wrote...
I've seen that but its not amazon selling it, its other sellers using the amazon site. If amazon were sellling it and someone had the last it would say out of stock. How come a major uk retailer isnt selling it?

And i liked the combat description. When you have read too much R.A.Salvatore you need some more details in the fights *g
But i have a MAJOR logic-question:
On the pages 235-236 when the group stands before the collapsed floor in one of the tunnels, they used "a narrow ledge at its (wall sides) foots just barely wide enough to walk along".
Can someone explain to me, how did they get Hafter(the dog) over there???

About 40-60 kilogramm living meat.
And now you try to glide along a wall on a footcase with just enough space to stand, when you are pressed against the wall, so that you wont fall AND having such a living back pack on your shoulders.
I had a 40 kg shepherd dog and when he was injured i tried to carry him. It is difficult enough to heave him up and hold in front of you against your chest, not talking about having him for minutes on your shoulders

Maybe they made a pulley system, tied him to a harness and pulled him across.Sarevok Anchev wrote...
This is no Chihuahua. Its a BIG dog, maybe even a Mabari wardog race.

Yeah, I can see why they would do that when they had a mage...

The love story between Maric and Fiona seemed mainly pointless to me, but with the child it suddenly got more interesting.
Alas i was a bit disheartend to read that the normal Grey Warden has written death all over him. That´s not really encouraging me, that my characters will finish this game living.. which takes much of the thrill out of it.

I don't understand what you mean? It's not really sure if anyone's going to die or not or the PC as a grey warden will die early or live on for many years. Fiona mysteriously got rid of the taint it's entirely possible Duncan has been leading investigations of a sort since then and trying to figure out why, at least someone's ought to have been looking into it.. Maybe there's a cure? At least that seemed to be the point of Fiona's character, it might be that her son is strangely immune to the blight too as pointed out.Nekator wrote...

Sure, Fiona and maybe her son are an exception. But it isn´t realistic that they become standard until the PC becomes a Grey Warden. And life of a Warden like it´s described in the Calling seemed to me rather .. unhappy (e.g. Genevives husband to be, who thanks Duncan for killing him), with not much chances of how it will end.
That´s not a critic, but the impression i got, during reading. So for me, a happy ending, or even something like becoming royality etc. seems rather unrealistic.
What i´ve forgotten, the character of the architect was very good, since it gives the Blight some more personality beside hordes of unintelligent monsters. It´s good that he got away.

One thing it has not made clear is whether there is a "French Legion" effect... Wiping the slate clean if you like if you have no other option...
It is stated that they are not under anyone else's authority, they do not answer to any nation ot King. That could be a powerful motivation for joining.
Mind you, you talk about despairing the inevitable fate of Grey Wardens but what about the Joining? Most do not survive... How desperate do you have to be to join??
However again look at Genevive who wanted to join more than anything else. A total volunteer...
Of course if there is any "reality" to this dark fantasy world then death is a common place event. Life spans for the common man are short and natural causes is pretty rare...

Really the place is all about strife, for some becoming a Grey Warden is better then whatever other fate awaited them. I think that's the point, drinking your own death and having the chance to at least die with meaning, or live a short life but do a lot with it, like Alistair seems to think being a Warden will allow him to actually do good things in life however cut short it might be.

You better not stop writing Mr Gaider - you are too good to stop here!!
After Calling now I can say that not only will I be meeting THE great Loghain but also the 'Duncan'...
Ive never been so excited to start playing a rpg when Im already so close to the characters. Fantastic! Although Calling has put me in a predicament. My party was going to be me, Leliana, Morrigan and Alistair... but now I surely need Dog!!!! Am i going to have to bump Leliana?! Hmm! But I intend to play a Kell like stealthy character so I need Dog now!
P.S The Calling had some fantastic battle moments that would have looked perfect on the silver screen. Hoards of dark spawn vs the slowly dwindling group! Felt like some sort twisted but terribly cool fantasy 'Aliens' scenes to me
