This issue may have existed all along (and there may be threads on it that I can't find... please start working, Mr. Search function), but I just noticed in creating a new character that my potential damage indicator fluctuates - the one represented by two crossed swords on the Character Record and Inventory screen. The new character is a mage and currently unarmed, so perhaps that is a factor?

I first noticed it when I equipped (and almost immediately un-equipped) my Memory Band, but I do not think the Memory Band is the issue. If I equip or un-equip any items, the potential damage changes. If I switch between my Character Record or my Inventory the damage potential also fluctuates.

As of yet I cannot duplicate a consistent change in the numbers. If I equip my Memory Band and then un-equip it and then re-equip it, the numbers can go from 4.1 to 5.8 to 3.3. The same is true no matter what I attempt in order to duplicate the exact change in numbers and thus there is no real consistency to it.

I'm assuming this is just a display bug (I've never noticed my damage being inconsistent on previous playthrough attempts) or it may have something to do with the fact that this time around I decided to use a character morph. I was just curious if anyone else had encountered this and if so, what the cause was and if there is a solution I need to enact. It's just so very peculiar.

Sort of. I was trying to assess the ranger pet damage and their main hand hit always seemed to fluctuate between summons. It usually only varied by about 1 point (e.g. Dire wolf at max level will summon with anywhere from 43.5 to 44.7 listed damage).

Haven't really looked any further into it because I don't know any way to figure out how much armor an enemy has to test against and even for the ones I do its a lot of work for such a small variance.

My guess is that it's not properly estimating the average of a varied stat and therefore you come up with different numbers each time it runs the calculation.
