I have 7 total garnets.  I've gone back to every vendor that I remember accessing, and I don't see any that I may have sold, though I see other stuff I remember selling.

How am I supposed to get the 12 for this stupid quest?

I've finished everything up to the Landsmeet and looking for Branka.

Am I just missing some vendor that sells these?  I'm about to just give them to my character through the toolkit.

toolkit imo. its a very minor quest anyway. barely worth it. you can finish the whole shady dealings line without doing it anyway.

Well, it's 10 for the quest, but I don't know how you can't find that many. When I got the quest I already had 25 garnets stashed away.. Are you using the tab key to find things you can loot as you search areas? Are you picking every chest? Looting every corpse?

I am looting everything.

I even have the in-camp storage chest mod that the Bioware rep had posted.  I sell everything I find, that I can't use, but I've kept all of my gems.  (The merchant part was just a sanity check to make sure I hadn't tossed some by accident.)

I don't know why I kept all of my gems, but I did.  They're all either in my inventory or sitting in my chest in camp.

I still only have seven garnets.  I have tons of other stuff too.  I read somewhere that you can pickpocket them, but all I've ever gotten has been money or potions.

Maybe I just have stupid luck.

I also had about 30+ by the time Landsmeet was starting. I'd guess you just had bad luck if you've been looting everything like you say. Course, I also pickpocketed almost everything once I had the skillpoints... that might have helped.



It is a minor quest, if that makes you feel better.

Kill genlocks they drop a garnet sometimes.

I got the last 3 I needed doing the quests just before the Landsmeet in the Alienage and killing Howe.



Up to that point, it was a rare sight to see, though there was a merchant in Orzammar selling some if I recall.

There's one merchant that you can mouse-over, and it says "Gem Merchant."  However, he doesn't sell a single gem that I can see.  He has a few key gift items for sale, though.

Weird.  If I don't get the gems I need, I'll "find" them somewhere...
