I hoped for it while BW was silent. However, after Ray's statement it doesn't make sense any more. They would not release something like this if they already had what we are all asking for.

This. It's pretty obvious they had no planned DLC ending they legitametly thought the ending was good.

I believe it. I fully expect future DLC to pick up in London with Shepard waking up underneath the rubble and continuing on into the Citadel to really fight the reapers.

Based on their own comments and the Final Hours info, no. It's justa royal screw up that they hoped would be overlooked.

But if it was a plan from the start to get everyone in an uproar, to get them really talking about the game then BOOM here's what the real ending is....I am not sure how I'd react. It's kind of a crappy thing to do...but at the same time...pure genius. Haha

That means they released an unfinished game.

Sadly, if they did do it on purpose they waited too long to do a reveal. Customers and fans ar ein an uproar, if it was intentional there would have been a reveal by now

HOLDING THE LINE. A NEW SUBSCRIBER TO FORBES MAGAZINE. I spend my money on my convictions. Forbes got the money I would have used to purchase DLC

I wouldn't go as far as to say that it was Bioware's plan but possibly EA's plan. They love to charge the fans for content that should already be included into the final product. Because ME1 did not have Day 1 DLC because they were not part of EA yet, the deal went through in October of 2007 and ME1 released that November. So there was no time create day1 DLC. Then in ME2 we had day 1 DLC but it was not that big of a deal. Now in ME3 we get day 1 DLC that is huge to us fans as well as from lore perspective. So I believe that this ending drama with the promise of DLC or whatever to fix it was a plan from EA all along. They may not have anticipated such a strong backlash from the fan base but I think they wanted this all along.

Not likely. Judging from Muzyka's response and Final Hours, the ending is what it is. That also means, no Indoctrination Theory.

But if they were planning this, that makes matters even worse. You need to pay for the ending. Although the IT could be valid then, let me repeat what I just said: You have to pay them for the ending of the game you just bought.

If they planned an extended ending, they should have said so from the beginning.

Citadel is only destroyed if you don't choose the "Control' ending.

If it was planned, they would have announced it to quell the firestorm. Bioware is not in a good spot at the moment, DA2 undersold, SWTOR undersold (crashed the EA stock), and now ME3.

They are in full panic mode, and if they arn't they should be.

I do believe that they have planned the ending dlc idea for awhile and that the comments that might make you think otherwise is just PR. I truely struggle to believe that the ending we all saw really is the ending that they wanted to make, it is just so out of charecter from the rest of series. That being said I don't think they had planned for the level and scope of fan reaction, I 'm sure they expected some (note the upate of forum rules on mar.2) but not the amount we've seen.

Now, while I believe they planned it, I would also not be suprised if they didnt, really it could be either way in the end and I think only those in the planning rooms actually know the truth. I look forward to the final final documentary on the development process. Maybe that will come with the ultra mega extended directors cut eddition a few years hence.

Whether than were rushed to get the game out, or this is all a big PR stunt, or they legitimately thought the endings as they are were good, Bioware royally screwed up on this. All choices are equally bad.

Whatever was the reason behind the current endings, my opinion on Bioware has decreased.
Honestly if they come up with the indoc theory or something else that was planned all along, they are evil and brilliant and greedy, but i don't know what to think. Just holding the line.

evidence galor!

I suggest you google "evidence" or read my sig

Is it so hard to believe that bioware actually planned this from jump?

Well, I guess people would rather believe that Bioware made mistake and misjudged how fans would react, rather than that Bioware is evil* and planned this from the start.

This is what I've been saying all along. What are the odds that a multi-million (if not billion) dollar company with hundreds of employees could possibly screw up this badly? These people have tons of experience behind them and have been wildly successful in the past. There's a reason why when EA was rebranding their studios, they would rename them Bioware and give BW's creators full reign over those studios.

You'd think someone in that huge company would say, "Oh Hudson/Walters, WTF were you thinking? This ending doesn't make any sense"

and they would reply, "Oh cripes, I am a total bonehead. I can't believe I actually thought that that was a good ending to a franchise that is worth millions of dollars. Sorry, my bad. I'll go fix it right away as soon as I turn in my resignation."

Problem averted...JUST that simple.

Yup, theres to much evidence of indoctrination. Eventhough this may have been planned, I'm sure they didn't plan for the amount of backlash.

Um... you may be misunderstanding what control actually does, because he doesn't replace the Guardian in any capacity nor was it ever indicated subtly that he would.

Also, people are reporting on the Indoctrination Theory which is that all of this just went on in his head as a way to indoctrinate him from Harbinger, in that case they would wake up and then go up the Conduit again.

I'm still in belief of this, but have more doubts since reading further statements about it.

Now I'm thinking maybe it's giving them far too much credit to be able to plan something as cunning as this. Either way, we'll see in a few weeks...

what if bioware had planned to extend the ending with DLC right off of the get go?  There is a special ending after you beat the game twice that clearly shows shepard living.

What if?  Ya the ending as is, is a dick move, but what if this up roar was for nothing?

i DO STILL want a happy ending

The indoctrinatin theory is ingenious, lots of good threads on it, that make ALOT of sense and back it up with evidence galor!

the ending just doesn't seem to fit into the mass effect genre at all, all the time and effort they put into it, how epic the rest of the game was 99.99% until after the run to the citadel beam.   doesn't make any sense that they would drop the ball right there does it?

HOLD THE LINE!  i believe that a better ending is coming (hopefully with optional happy ending)  Weither from all of our raging or because they planned it from the start.  Hold the Line!  /salute

I think they did intend it, and realize now they screwed the pooch. They need to come out, tell us the truth and make it right. That would be them saying sorry and giving us a box of chocolates. Since this bittersweet ending has left nothing but a bitter taste. The candy would give us the sweetness we wanted.

Then, they could give us Red Roses and join us on the line by donating some money to Child's play.

Then we can all go have some sloppy fun together with their new game and DLC's. We still love you Bioware, but let's fix this, then we all can go on together happily.

I want to believe.

I'm not sure I do, though...

By the way...does anyone of you think that there still might be the possibility, that BW planned that all along? They planned something like the "Indoctrination Theory" as a PR action - so they can come out after some weeks with the "real" ending, saying - "Ah! Those of you who believed in the "fake" endings have been tricked - "indoctrinated" by us, the rEApers."?
After all interacting with players to that extend would be...totally new and impressive.

They just didn't count on the fans to be that passionate?

I think it's quite possible
At least if i was good at english i could think of this... to make players feel what indocrination is and take big sh... for a while so then everyone to mention me (if i have this (endings beforehand for greater stun )) and at least if i menage to fool around (deceive players about ending) at the end of so great series it will be great. And it will be remembered(with good ) so Players to pay closer looks on the things they do when they play So Great Series of games as ME.

And at the end theyll win a lot of money from that particular fame that they aquired

For me Indocrination theory is quite right (but i admit i couldnt figure it out cause i didn't pay attention i just wanted to finish the game for first time and then as usual in segond replay i go deep into game)

PS.Bad English

PPS. And as i mentioned above for me it if i were BW would be great if some players menage to understand meanigs that i put in the endings :)

I wonder if the bigsuits in EA called Bioware and just asked "what the hell did you do!?"

For all I know EA loves money so they could be ripping into Bioware for dropping the ball and FORCE them to give us what we want...wishful thinking.
