If his sacrifice resulted in an ending better than the one we saw?

Personally, I think having Shepard die to save galactic civilization and stop the Reapers would've been a better way to have a "bittersweet" ending.

I think it worked well in Dragon Age:Origins with the Ultimate Sacrifice ending so I think if we had an ending that was otherwise happy with Shepard dying then that would be a good way to conclude it, especially since this is the last Mass Effect game with Commander Shepard.

No.

In a game like Mass Effect, there shouldn't be any of, "Shepard has to ___"

i had no problem with him dying, after everything hes done i cant imagine him settling down and leading a boring "normal" life. better to die there with reason than to live for the sake of it

my only issue was tyhe lack of closure for any of the characters weve learnt about over the past 5 years, any epilogue for them at all and the ending would be perfect

well..as i recall in DAO...the sacrifice ending was an option..one of several.

so..I would like the option to sacrifice shep as well as save shep...gives me more fun and replayability

Yeah that would have been a better ending, though I would also want the option to have Shepard survive and be reunited with his/her LI and crew too.

It would be better than the nonsense we got.

But I would not be satisfied. I dislike the idea that the hero has to die. It is a cliched anti-cliche.

Like in your DA:O example... I chose the Morrigan option every time.

My Shepard did die to save a galactic civilization and it's future by stopping the Reapers.

Absolutely.

I wouldn´t mind him dying in every single ending. I wouldn´t also mind, for example, if Shepard´s survival required massive sacrifices and was accessible only above certain Renegade score, while the "save all" option would be open only to the self-sacrificing Paragons.

edit: to clarify, I do dislike the current ending, which is out of place, nonsensical, incomprehensible, short, and largely inconsequential. Also, everybody dies after the Relays explode. Also, I wish I could shoot the darn kid while telling him where he can stick those choices.

QFT but not opposed to the idea. As long as it's worth it. It has mean something. As it stands you don't save galactic civilization at the cost of Shepard's life; You DESTROY galactic civilization at the cost of Shepard's life, which is bull****.

Yes, as long as it is well written and an awesome finale.

As ONE of the options - yes, i'm fine with it.
As ONLY the option - no, it's just wrong.

I am fine with him dying, I don't like that he has to give up his humanity to do it... that's my problem with the three choices.

Nope. He/She should live.

However, I'm not opposed to the option of having endings where Shepard dies.

CHOICES!

I still adamantly believe the 'perfect' ending should have him live and ride off with his LI and crew. Every other ending could have him die to save the galaxy (with multiple different paths) or, in the worst case, die and the galaxy is doomed. Not sure why this wasn't the ONLY way this series could end.

The heart of Mass Effect is choice. Whilst I had personally had no problems with Shepard dying, seeing it as the classic hero's sacrifce thing to add impact to the story, the lack of choice was depressing and goes against what the game is about. It's even more critical because its the ending.

I am ok with his sacrifice. But this is not a sacrifice, it's a failure. Shep was indoctrinated, and if you make the right choices, he lives to fight the reapers in London.

It that is one of the OPTIONS... then yes it would be cool but if that was the ONLY option then No - I'm note.

if this was a game like Final Fantasy which is a self contained defined protagonist then it would be okay.. . Mass Effect 3 is not that... it never was and to force at the end is completely because someone is playing ...yes and I mean ... playing at being an artist.

I just want more options. I'd love to have an ending where Shepard sacrifices herself as long as there's another one where she can pull through.
