I don't care if he dies. But I just don't want it to be the only option. I just want everything to be clear.

it would be OK if Shepard dies in 4 out of 6 endings (you need at least one paragon survival option and one renegade survival option).

I was all set to see Shepard die as he talked to Anderson. I thought to myself "This is it, it's over. Wow. This is amazing. What a dramatic end." Shepard gave his life to stop the reapers. What could be more appropriate.

Then starchild happened.

No.

In a game like Mass Effect, there shouldn't be any of, "Shepard has to ___"

If his sacrifice resulted in an ending better than the one we saw?

Personally, I think having Shepard die to save galactic civilization and stop the Reapers would've been a better way to have a "bittersweet" ending.

I think it worked well in Dragon Age:Origins with the Ultimate Sacrifice ending so I think if we had an ending that was otherwise happy with Shepard dying then that would be a good way to conclude it, especially since this is the last Mass Effect game with Commander Shepard.

Yes. I was expecting him to die. I didn't expect him to die in front of a random ghost-child god. I didn't expect for him to kill himself due to some ridiculous illogical statements from said ghost-child without so much as questioning what he was told. I didn't expect him to die just for his actions to screw over the galaxy he was trying to save.

Yes, in fact, I think it give him/her a more mythic heroism by dying.

I would be fine yes, if the endings gave clarity and closure.

I think it would be nice to know where everybody is at the end. And I agree with one of the other posters in this thread. There shouldent be a Shepard has to........ There should be more choices and more variables.

At this point, no.

I had so much choice taken away from this ending that I would want a group of possible endings that range from total victory to complete defeat.

I'd rather the endings just make sense and have an emotional impact but I shouldn't be forced to have my Shepard die. If he absolutely needs to then make him die like a badass.

Mass Effect is about overcoming impossible odds but following a plan.

Ignore the plan, deviate too much, ignore the needs of your friends; you and others pay the price.

Do perfectly; you get a perfect ending.

I can see the point of view that she should be able to survive, but honestly I'd be ok with that not being a choice, so long as it makes sense, choices leading up to it matter, and choices affect what comes after.

I would be fine with an option for an ending where Shepard dies as long as it is done maybe in the same tasteful manner that it was in DA:O.

I have no problem with Shepard dying as long as the ending makes sense.

Yes. But, it has to be done well, like in DA:O with your squad and friends attending your funeral.

I would like survive as an option. The joy of the RPG elements of Mass Effect has always been both the element of choice and also the reflection of oneself within the super or action hero we are portraying. DAO proved it was a lot easier for me to allow someone else to gain earn redemption than it was to make the ultimate martyr's sacrifice. If this is really my Shepard's journey, then my Shepard needs to survive. ME2 suicide mission proved that you can beat the odds if you make the right choices. We talk about bittersweet ending, Trashed homeworlds across the races and untold billions dead seems bitter enough to me.

It would be logical, but I think it has to be an option. Like in ME2, you could choose to have Shep die if you didn't properly prepare for the final battle. I would be okay with Shep dying no matter what you do because it makes sense. It's the reapers, it's a suicide run. I would be crying when the credits rolled in though ;)

I chose for my character to sacrifice himself in DA: Origins. It was a good ending, but it wasn't the only ending...

It was well made, but sacrificing yourself was a pretty damn horrible choice. If it only made my warden and the arch-demon die, it would have been an option to consider.

Yeah, but that's exactly what happened. The Warden, and arch-demon die, darkspawn run away, everyone high fives and then a sweet guitar riff plays.

As for what I want, I think I already posted. I'm fine with Shepard dying.

No, their essence gets utterly destroyed. Much worse then dying. If you die in dragon age, your essence still remain, it just moves on to somewhere else, beyond the fade if you are mortal.

I am fine with Shepard dying in most scenarios. I would even want the option of Shepard failing badly and the reaper winning if your EMS is too low.

I would be absolutely fine with Shepard dying. As long as it was:

1) Worth it.
2) Epic.

The first one you'd think would be obvious; saving all life in the galaxy should be worth it. But I can't SEE the whole galaxy, if you know what I mean. Mordin, in ME2, has a line that speaks the same message. How he can't fight for the galaxy, but he CAN fight for the safety of his favorite nephew. So "worth it" in this manner would be Shepard dying to preserve someone I care about, as a player. it has to be personal, as well as of galactic consequence.

The second is just me wanting Shep to go out in an appropriate hero's style. Emotionally epic, visually epic, some combination of the two. I know if can be done. Legion, Mordin, and Thane's death scenes were all great examples.

Honestly, no.
I want to be able to choose.
In any other game, I'd grind my teeth and accept the end but in ME choice is all and the main characters death is a choice I want to be involved in.

This.  Get rid of starchild to eliminate ~99% of the plot holes and logic flaws.  Show that the war assets truly affect ending outcomes, outcomes of friend, allies and Earth.   If that happens...

If that happened to be the sum of his decisions, sure.  Just like in Mass Effect 2, if the consequences of Shepard's actions require his death, so be it.  He should not unilaterally just die because it is his last game or the last game in the trilogy though.  It should be based on player choices and consequences throughout the trilogy.
