I have a question. What would hypothetically happen if I transferred a save to ME3 in which I didn't recruit certain ME2 members at all, rather than them simply being killed during the suicide mission?

I only know what happens if you don't recruit Kasumi: she appears in ME3 but doesn't reveal herself after console explosion and doesn't become a War Asset.

But if I didn't recruit Zaeed, Samara, Thane, or Tali at all before doing the suicide mission, would they still appear in Mass Effect 3, or would ME3 treat them as though they'd been killed?
