As we all have read, Dr. Ray Muzyka has responed in a blogpost to RetakeME3. If you haven't read it, here's the link: http://blog.bioware....012/03/21/4108/

RetakeME3 has had three main points it wanted to achieve with DLC:
 • Our choices should matter: Multiple endings based on our chocies throughout the game(s), with significant difference between all of them, including, but not limited to so-called 'happy endings'.
 • Endings have to make sense: Said endings have to be in line with the rest of the storyline, and with as little plotholes as possible
 • Closure: We want to know where our characters, their squadmates and other characters, and even species, will end up, or at least get a clear indication of that.
The blogpost being mostly PR speak, it doesn't include anything concrete. This is extremely likely due to the fact that they have nothing ready, and anything concrete would pinpoint them to somthing that they may not be able to deliver upon. Having made that mistake with the PR, they want to reduce the chances of that happening again.

However, the blogpost, along with other communications from Bioware staff, do indicate an invitation to the negotiation table. More than that, Bioware indicates it concedes to some of our requests. First of all, they indicated that they will make the endings make sense, which is point 2 on our bullited list. Also, they implied, that they will help create closure for the story. Since this is rather subjective, I can understand that they don't want to outright promise that, but at least it shows that they are willing to work on it.

These concessions are a step in the right direction. We're not there yet, though, but, still, it is a step. We should appreciate this. We should appreciate it for what it is: an opening bid for negotiations.

Now, I believe, it is time to show that we, as well, are willing to take place at the negotiations table. We must show that we are reasonable, rational negotiation partners, and not raging whining entitled obsessive fans.

What does that mean? We have to give Bioware some room. We have to make certain concessions.

HOWEVER, our bullited points are non-negotiable. We have made that clear from the start. These are our requests, and we will not back down from them.

The thing is, Bioware did not ask for us to do that. What he asked of us, is to stop our campaign. To abandon holding the line.

Should we? No. Because once we do so, we have nothing to exert our collective voice with. So, no, we hold the line.

Instead, I suggest we make concessions. Namely, the following:
 • We stop review-bombing
 • We amend our message: Instead of saying "Don't buy the game", we will say "Buy the game, but only after the endings DLC has been released"
Those, and only those, should be our concessions to Bioware and EA. To show them we are co-operative, and willing negotiation partners. We will, however, continue holding the line, by doing the following:
 • We keep donating to the Charity.
 • We keep linking to articles that support our position, like the Forbes articles, Angry Joe, etc.
 • We keep the conversation going, not only here on BSN, but on Facebook, twitter, etc.
I hope all of you will take these suggestions to heart.

With regards, Samuel Valkyrie

Seems like a good middle ground to me. I have not yet review-bombed anywhere, nor do I plan to start. My campaign is solely here on the forums and by word of mouth, and I make sure to tell people exactly why I don't recommend the game (right now). Everyone I have spoken to about it knows that I believe it is a fantastic game, and that the only problems lie with the ending.

Holding the Line.

My point is, yes, we are holding the line. And I'm not asking to stay quiet. II am suggesting we yield some of our fronts, to focus our energy on others, and to better our chances on getting what we request.

In other words, if you want to take the analogy of war: We don't want a total annihilation war. We also do not want a full frontal assault. We need to think tactically, instead of using mere force.

I don't think most of us have review bombed.  But it is more or less something good to acknowledge has happened by some.

The main point makes sense which is after weeks of telling us that "They are listening" we can respond with "We are listening" and that any DLC purchases we make are tied to the issue of endings.

I agree with this. I didn't think that the Retake movement ever said "don't buy the game", but the movement has gotten so big now that it's increasingly difficult, if not impossible, to surmise specific goals. Anyway. I think that this is good. This has been my view on DLC anyway. I'll happily buy any DLC as long as there is at least a promise of a change to the endings (to be clear, not JUST clarification--but this part is my personal take on the matter). Anyway, thanks for putting this together. I agree that there needs to be a little give and take between the fans and the devs.

/is still holding the line over in the Retake Charity thread

Oh I still rate ME3 (and 1 and 2) as LEGEN....

wait for it....

....DARY!

With additional unlimited thanks to Mark Meer, Jenifer Hale, Ali Hillis, Seth Green, Keith David and the other voice actors. Furthermore to the wirters for some ASTONISHING dialogues like "what kind of guns does this thing have?" - "It's a taxi. It's got a fare meter!" - i laughed my ass off repeatedly, as well I was moved to tears several times.

I am still a huge fan, although I want an epilogue that deserves the name epilogue. The stuff we got is hardly an "ep". i am missing the "ilogue".

All I wish for, is to acknowledge both Bioware's actions, and our own, collectively. To show Bioware "We are listening".

Okay Good points!
So I hereby bump this by also shouting out to everyone who hated the endings:
Stop the reviewbombing!

I don't think most of us are review bombing, I know I sure have not. And I still suggest to everyone to play the game, just to stop at the point where you run to the conduit. I see this post as good intentioned but mostly useless as the majority have been keeping it civil.

i never read any member of "retake" bomb the game itself at all. we all loved the game, i got chills several times playing it. what we do feel is cheated and toyed with by the ending which not only impacted me3 but the whole trilogy for me. i had plans after beating 3 to go back to 1 and start over...now i dont even feel its worth it.

Hold the line

Sounds very reasonable. Even though Ray's blog post did seem like just another PR stunt I must admit that it's a huge step in the right direction that he is now addressing us directly. The PR elements in his post do no offend me, seeing as he has to remain loyal to his employees.

I will take their word for change, but I will wait for the final product before I cast my judgement. Until then I will hold the line.

Indeed, and I agree. But you have to agree, a significant number of people DID review-bomb, and still do. I do not claim everybody does this. I do, however, suggest that we all acknowledge that it has happened, that it happens, and that, as a group, we will try to prevent it from happening anymore. What individual members end up doing, nobody can control, but at least we can show that, as Bioware is willing to make concessions, so are we.

Just not on our demands.

Add the concession that we're not purchasing DLC until ending DLC is released and I'll agree.

I have to agree with this post 100%  I can't bring myself to touch my ME3 game again unless there is more options and closure.  I spent many, many hours leading up to the end of this epic game and was never so disappointed.  Where is the closure, what was the point of all the struggle and choices if it ends like that, unite the species for what?  I always bought and played all DLC on my Bioware games but why would I go back and play DLC for ME3 when I know it doesn't make a difference.  It was such a let down and too depressing to bother with again unless this changes. I was one of Bioware's biggest fans, I work Tech support for one of the gaming platforms and always recommended Bioware and Mass Effect to all my customers.  I can't recommend this to people anymore.  I lost my desire to play future games. If Dragon Age 3 comes out and ends as badly I'd be devasted.

Agreed. I do wish people would stop with the huge hate and negativity. Our reasons for being confused at the ending are perfectly valid, but acting like toddlers and flailing limbs around while screaming at the top of our voices doesn't get respect, it gets eyerolling.

The mature, reasonable voice will win out at the end of the day. And win my faith back in humanity to boot ;)

I agree that our choices should matter, and I agree that we need closure. I also agree that the endings need to make sense, but I don't believe they should outright change them to do so. I believe that we need an add-on to make better sense of what we have, and to grant closure in which we could possibly see how our choices have impacted the galaxy.
