I want to begin by saying that the entire Mass Effect trilogy is a
phenomenal experience and that it was one hell of an emotional
experience. I loved all of it, from the tedious planet scanning of ME2
to the incredibly intense battle at the end of ME 1, from seeing Kaiden
and Ashley left on Virmire, to seeing Liara's Time Capsule, it was all
incredibly emotional and incredibly moving.

I am not even going to try to dispute that Mass Effect 3 is by and large
one of the best games I have ever played. Bioware should be proud of
what an incredible accomplishment they have gained through the creation
of such wonderful settings, engaging characters and all of the many
intense, euphoric and gut wrenching moments throughout the series.

That said, I cannot help but be disappointed with the ending of Mass Effect 3.

I can live with Shepard dieing - in fact I expected this from the end of
ME 1 - and I think that it is a wonderful way to bring closure to the
series. However, the entire sequence with the Normandy landing on a
random planet is - in two of three endings at least - a death sentence
for certain species of the Normandy crew. The destruction of the Relays
also easily means that many of the fleets at Earth will never be going
home and that many of the aliens present will invaraibly suffer a grim
fate. The sequence with the Star Child - who uses logic that I can
disprove by allying the Geth with all of Organic life - was
disappointing because I couldn't argue with him over his rational, or
ask him more questions, or even just ask him to repeat my choices.

So I will gladly submit to the community and to Bioware some
constructive criticism on my issues with the game. Please note that this
is not in the order of my biggest issues with the game.

1) - Shepard Dieing/Living.
Shepard
dieing is what many of us have bound to have been expecting. There's
nothing wrong with him dieing, in fact I have argued with a friend that
he needed to die because if he had survived, he would have literally
held the galaxy in the palm of his hand - which is way too much power
for anyone, including Shepard. I love the manner in which he dies in the
current endings :

- Vaporized and mentally uploaded to become the 'God' or 'Collective Mind' of the Reapers (This isn't explained fully)

- Dissolved into code and imbued in every living thing in the galaxy,
giving everything a connection and ensuring that when everything becomes
synthetic-organic it should all have a partial connection through
Shepard and possibly share some of his traits (Again this isn't
explained very well)
- Dieing in an explosion that engulfs either
Earth, or just destroys the Citadel to bring about the destruction of
the Reapers (As I mentioned before, I think many of us expected
something similar to this - at least, at a basic level)

Now what I don't like,
is the lack of explanations that we're given to push us into each
choice, and the faulty logic used by the Star Child - more on this
later. I also don't like how if Shepard does live and you see him
breath, then there is even less closure to the trilogy than there
already is.

I would have liked to have seen either more variety, or a greater expansion to the death scenes.

If
I hadn't gathered enough war assets (I'll expand on this later)  - or
perhaps done something more specific like gathering up and exchanging
medical supplies ala sidequest, then why not have Shepard bleed out
before reaching the controls, or have him struggling much more than he
already is to reach one of the endings? Why not have him wounded before
the end run to the London Space Elevator and the beam from Harbinger
is his death and we are treated to the Reapers harvesting all life in
the galaxy and see a scene with our crew indoctrinated or 'reaperized'
ala Javiks old crew?

If I had gathered enough war assets (i'll
expand on this later), then why not have a scene where Shepard is still
injured and lying in rubble, but that the Allies recover him from the
wreckage of the Citadel and he wakes up on a hospital ship or on Earth
with his crew? Why just leave it at him taking a breath in rubble? For
all we know, he still could have bleed out or died before medical help
reached him.

As for a simple expansion of the death scenes, it
would have been very touching to have a voice overlay from the different
character shown at the death scene. Hearing Joker say it was an honour,
or hearing Anderson tell me he's proud of me, and hearing Liara say
something to me right before I died would have tore my heart out - more
than the sadness of the moment already did. That said, they were very touching moments with the piano and I think Bioware did a wonderful job with it.

Please Note - I have to go at the current time, but I will continue to add on to this with my other points, and with any edits when I get a chance. It might be a little while though.

Hopefully
this will provide some discussion points and lead to more constructive
criticism that Bioware is asking for. To that end, it would probably be
helpful if anyone adding on points followed a format of what they liked,
what they didn't, and how it could be better - in that order.

Thanks, and Have a Good Day!
