With development time and effort, it could have been incredible. It had some glaring issues, but I loved playing it to the point I find DA:O boring whenever I go back to play it.

Best thing about the streamlining is that when you get a new skill DA2 at least gives you a default tactic on how to use it.  Might not be the most optimal, but it sure is useful.

Versus spec a skill then go in and give the skill a tactic yourself.

It had some clever bits(Better skill trees, companion-related dialogue options) I enjoyed. As a whole, it wasn't particularly impressive.

I didn't really enjoy playing DAII. Since my favourite game (at the time of writing this) is DA:O - I guess that is why.

Was DAII a pretty good game? I can only compare it with games I play. I usually only play 2 or 3 games a year, mostly RPGish games. By those (my subjective) standards, I guess I'd have to say DAII was well below average. Thus I guess I'm not in this camp.

DA2 is a pretty good game. I believe the they tried to do too many things at once with it though. There were so many changes from DA:O, many of which were good ideas, but many of them were not implemented quite as good as they could have been.

I found myself getting to the end of the game and being disappointed by the story. I would like to have seen a more evident over-arcing plot. I do very much enjoy how the game dealt with emotions though, I felt very connected to Hawke and his/her family.

While I believe DA2 to be a much lesser game than DA:O, I believe it has created the possibility of a very good DA3. If Bioware can refine elements of DA2 and mix them with what made DA:O great they may be able to created a game that surpasses both.

"It has both good and bad points, and given extra dev time, could have been better club."

Not keen on the graphics (though they do look good at certain times), or being limited to such a small area to travel and explore (DAO was much better here), but i genereally liked the story and improved combat over DAO's shuffle, though it was slightly too fast.

I liked DA2 and I liked DAO for different reasons. DA2 in my opinion improve on the combat for mages rogues and two handers. The skill trees were better. I like the characters in both stories. DA2 had its faults but so did DAO.

And possibly also the "DA2 could have been a very good game" club.

What did you not specifically like about it?

I don't find the "It's not DAO" a particularly solid argument.

But 'Its nothing like DA:O' is a particualarly strong argument.

There's nothing wrong with the concepts that Dragon Age 2 draw upon, except their massively rushed implementation, other than many are in complete opposition of many things that made DA:O a spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate's era.

The Its nothing like DA:O means nothing to the gamer who has only played DA2. If you have played DAO and DA2 then the statement may mean something, but without elaboration the person who made the statement maybe thinking something entirely different from what I  or others are thinking.

As you know I do not think DAO is a spiritual successor to BG era. DAO is in some ways in complete opposition to what made BG great.

I can connect with your felling but Dragon Age: Origins wasn't a sequel to Baldur's Gate made in 2003. Even back then (2005? when DA:O was first announced) we all knew DA:O would be a 'compromise' between 'newer trends' and 'old school features and presentation', we all knew that 'spiritual successor' meant a more remote sense of familiarity than most of us would have liked. And I believe DA:O managed to deliever.

Hell, I can now point to Dragon Age II and say that's what I and mayhap others feared back then. Even though we didn't really have a clear idea of what a 'perverted' version of our gaming niche was, I'm sure that Dragon Age II is closer to that than Dragon Age: Origins was.

And that's precisely what made Dragon Age II so disappointing to me, its a spiritual successor of the spiritual successor being painted as a sequel - made with the open sentiment that our gaming niche is too small.

Thought DA2 was a decent game, though I would have liked more places to explore and wished the plot had been more fleshed out.

The characters weren't as interesting as Origins and felt very little attachment to them. As well as a lot of nitpicking I could do but..I'm lazy.

The combat was an improvement from Origins but felt like they dropped a bit of the strategic aspects. As for the voiced protagonist, I could care less if he was or wasn't, not that huge of a gripe at all.

Though I would prefer a voiced character just because he feels more alive in game. There are plenty of concepts that were great but weren't exactly up to snuff...

I like DA2 a lot my only thing was the whole Ander hitting on my Male Hawke was way out of character for him compared to DA:O Awakening.

I personally thought Da2's story was better than DAO's.  The graphics and load were far better optimized.  I don't mind a voiced main character because it gives the main character depth and makes the story seem more focused.

Exactly!!!!  Hawke seemed more real, no he wasn't a hero at the end, yes he blundered quit a bit but that's what was so appealing and fun about Hawke.  He wasn't this die hard character that you knew from the beginning who would end the game by saving it.  He was an average farmer/Ferelden citizen who got caught up with politics whether he wanted to or not.  He did the best he could with what he could and how he could and in the end he basically left as he came in but this time more experienced, even though he had a title to champion in the end he even walked away from that. That made Hawke more real, more realistic and more enjoyable to play.

The whole 1 city thing didn't bother me so much because its pretty much identical to what the first Witcher game did, which I found to be a pretty awesome game in its own right.

Only thing I hated about DA2 was the rehashed maps for quests.  That was just pure lazyness on Bioware's part.

I do admit, I didn't buy the game at release so I am not privvy to any bugs on release.

The one city thing didn't bother me either, could focus more on Hawke n family/friends.   But that doesn't mean I want that for every game, variety is nice and that's what I see the DA series doing, one minute it's about saving the world from the blight, next it's about a nobody who does the best they can to survive and hope they can keep their family alive, who had to run from their home because of the blight, who knows what the next is going to bring but I am looking forward to it.

Dragon Age 2 showed promise for a future of games that are going in an exciting direction rather then staying in a rute.  I personally like that there's going to be voiced VO's, I personally like the different dispositions you can give your character.   I actually like how the wheel was as far as knowing the disposition you where turning Hawke into and hearing it in comments and reactions.  I liked the wheel not telling me exactly what Hawke was goin to say. Yes some of the things Hawke did say made me go O_o, but all in all it made Hawke more real.  And honestly had me in stitches on some of them lol.

I do have to say the communication with companions in DAO was better then 2 n the romance only because we got to see more lol but that didn't detour me from playing again or hating it, game's been out for a lil over a yr now, I've prob played about 40 pt's and still playing and will again after this pt, unfortunately I can't say that about origins.  I loved it when it was out and played it for about a yr but I can't get bk into it.  Yes I have tried I just can't do it.  DA2 is more enjoyable for me.  Offers more.

Love DA II. Going back to play Origins is just painful for me, now. I've only managed to do it once.

The only thing I miss is the Bard spec. Other than that, it's all good.

Many things were downgraded or just simply removed. Kirkwall was a ghost town compared to Vizima in Witcher 1 and had a lot less detail. DAO didn't really have great graphics but DA2's weren't good either, only improvement was in the character models. The landscape looked like total ****.

Dislike voiced protagonists but we're apparently stuck with them so not much we can do there. They could at least improve the awful dialogue system. None of the companions stood out for me, I felt indifferent to most of them except maybe Aveline and Varric. Story was more or less non existent. I never really cared about what I was doing. The entire game feels like you're just going from one side quest to the next and then the game is done. I can go on and on.

It was a painfully mediocre game. Sadly DA3 looks like it's just going to be an improved DA2 which makes me wonder why they couldn't be bothered to improve on what Origins did.

I loved it! Sure it had it's flaws and was very different from DA:O, but that didn't keep me from loving it and now I can't have more of it :(

Loved everything about the game except the drop downs ninjas and reused areas, the DLC fixed all that stuff. So I'm in the it is a great game club with all story dlcs attached. The change in combat makes Origins hard to play through from that perspective.

They canceled all future dlc/content for DA2 to move onto "The Next Thing" as they put it.
