Since the release of Mass Effect 3 on PC, i have been unable to play the game due to the lack of controller / gamepad support.  I have a very powerful gaming rig which is connected to my big screen HDTV that is 5 feet away from where i sit and use a wireless Xbox 360 controller, for that reason alone, i can't use a keyboard and mouse.  I am not alone on this subject as others will be in the same position aswell as people who are disabled that use controllers over keyboard and mouse.

I just don't understand how controller support was not available for a big release game like Mass Effect 3 when the console versions already had the fundamentals in place.

Please Bioware, put some controller support into any future updates as otherwise i have a game that i will never be able to play as i refuse to pay anymore money and buy the console versions.

Here's hoping.

Tbh, they did a ****** poor job with the keyboard. I don't know how you expect them to introduce the use of controllers.

MegumiAzusa: I did mention that I game from 5 feet away from my HDTV that is connected to my gaming rig so I can game and use my rig as an all round media unit, for that reason, I do not use a keyboard and mouse for games.

mad825: The interface is already there, in the Xbox 360 version of the game. Most games that have controller support on PC are configured for use with a Xbox 360 controller anyway, that's why I do not understand why the PC version of the game does not have it?

Likely due to the expectation that if you wanted to play it with a controller you would purchase the console version.  I do not say this to knock ya, since I have a very similar layout with my own rig hooked up to my 60" HDTV.  Best workaround I've got for ya would be a wireless keyboard/mouse setup which is what I do.  though if you come across a good set there, let me know.  I had to settle for cheap stuff in that regard, spent too much on the rest of the system... which means I spent just enough lol

I wish all EA games did what "Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning" did in that if you plug in a microsoft controller (or a PS3 controller w/motioninjoy) the game switches to the XBox UI.

Not sure I would ever play Mass Effect 3 with it ... but Dragon Age 2 would have been a hell of a lot better.

Personally I wouldnt use a controller for ME3 but I support the addition of it. Playing games like Batman: Arkham city or any of the Assassins creed games with an xbox 360 controller is a blast, but I wouldnt want to buy a console. Best of both worlds ;)

Thanks for the support guys!

I have been a console gamer for over 10 years and finally decided to get into PC gaming in the last couple of years, hence why I prefer the use of a controller.

Sevrun: I thought of your idea but i do not really want to sit on my sofa with a wireless keyboard and mouse sadly.

The main point to mention is that EA makes console games which use a controller right? So why take that away for the PC version of that particular game? Makes no sense to me. EA just know how to make people frustrated that's all!

Selling games is about making money, plain and simple but why take away a feature that could help sell the game better for those who do not use or can not use a keyboard and mouse?

The original Crysis on PC was an exclusive back in 2007, that game had controller support even though there was no console version of the game around then! Also, it was a EA title too!

This is 2012, I expect PC games to have controller support unless they are specialist games or simulations. EA is going backwards, games 5 years ago or more had the support but a game launched as big as Mass Effect 3 in 2012 does not? Hmmm....

Yeah them not supporting the controller makes no sense at all, I mean no-one can be that lazy or care that little, political or economical reasons? Maybe something to do with Microsoft certification for the ability to use the 360 controller, FEAR 2 guys said something like that back in the day.

Still, lots of games have no problem adding controller support, I'm sure the code is already buried in the game but just closed off.

I support this. I had to mod in controller support for the first two games, and I don't want to risk it on this one, since, you know, they ban your account for modding now. And also, all of you that tell me to play on an Xbox or just use m+k can ****** off. Once you drive the Normandy with a controller, you'll never want to go back.

Bosatsu> Totally agree with you, the code is there for controller support but they took it out to make it look like a PC game, that's what i think! They made an Xbox version of the game which uses a Xbox 360 controller and the interface to work with it, how hard was it to transfer this to the PC version? The data is stored digitally, so I can't see why it can't be added? LAZY!

wookieepelt> I'm with you there, controller support for flying the Normandy is essential, makes it feel more realistic over a keyboard and mouse, my opinion! I still have not played the damn game, it's stored on my gaming pc and all I am doing at the moment is checking for updates, I still refuse to play without controller support! No controller support = No more money from me on DLC!

I have noticed that the game price for Mass Effect 3 standard edition on any format has been reduced dramatically across online retailers?! Does this mean that support for this game will not be as much as it can be? Why the sudden price reduction? Hmmm....

Maybe it's because of the bad press the ending has gotten. Or the bad press that the day one DLC caused.

You are right about that wookieepelt but even with the new lower price for the game, it will still have people shouting about the ending and the day one DLC, dropping the price will not change a thing when it concerns Mass Effect universe! Plus it's an insult to anyone who paid top price for it, like you and me.

Yeah, that's true. A good PR move would be to announce controller support, and maybe free DLC for people who paid full price.

Just heard that they are launching free DLC for an Extended Cut ending this summer. It's good news but still an insult for us full price paying customers.

EA / Bioware, you will make me a happy customer by putting in controller support, how hard can it be?

Elite console gamers have PC's as consoles.

I liked how Deus ex :HR did it.. You could play with a keyboard and mouse and pick up the controller and the prompts changed.  If you set the controler down and used the mouse and Keyboard they changed back.. A very dynamic shift.

I agree too. It's a good game but it's best to enjoy on the couch. And better textures too.

You could definitely say I'm an elite console gamer, then. I bought a 46 inch LED TV just to be my monitor. Controllers are really nice with this setup, and even then, this game was poorly ported for m+k.

Abram730> Spot on! I have Deus Ex: HR, I loved playing that game with a controller but did notice the smooth change from controller to keyboard & mouse. Devs are not going to have a hard job putting controller support into the game but choose to shoot and create a new ending which is much more work?

Manloi> I totally agree!

wookieepelt> Your just like me with a huge HDTV for a monitor, how do game devs think that everyone nowadays still sits in front a monitor on a desk? Errr I don't think so!

For anyone asking why anyone would want/need controller support, there are some who can only use a controller as outlined in this thread

Despite my reasons for needing it, and the fact that I'm not willing to buy a console to play one game, some just prefer it plain and simple. A one size fits all approach usually means an awkward fit for everyone.
