So my DW warrior just got Momentum (still at tower of ishal so not that far in) and well frankly its made me wonder a few things:

Every DW warrior build people seem to hark on about claims that momentum is always the first talent to aim for and how its essential to every duel weild build, yet for some reason i cant see why its so special?

I mean sure it makes your AUTO attack faster (because..thats what you want.. to sit and watch it fight for you) yet currently its halving my stamina pool. Now i dont plan to be increasing willpower yet i can only use 1 maybe 2 abilities with this stamina hit.. how is that an effective way of fighting?

Your damage output is a lot higher with momentum on. You still want to play with your abilities and don't want to spent on willpower. There is walkaround...

1. Rejuvenation, you need a mage for it, but it works.
2. Don't start a fight with momentum on, spam whatever move you want, once you got very little stamina left, turn momentum on, your stamina will still drain, but it should last before the fight ends.

DW warrior with the correct talent & gear, momentum + auto attack is very effective.

EDIT: Momentum is very powerful, that's why it got a high upkeep & drains stamina+lower your stamina regen. Still worth it.

Yea i get that it can be powerful, but to me it just seems like sitting back and not doing anything during fights is what makes it powerful, you sacrifice fun to take down something twice as fast? Is that truly what all those saying "dw warriors are so much fun" class as a good character?

if you dont plan to increase willpower at all in my opinion you should just focus on playing a mage and drinking lyrium potions. for any melee class to be fun and be able to use their abilities a lot you will need to stack up a decent amount of willpower so you have stamina.

momentum just allows people to be lazy and ignore willpower to be an auto attack bot.

I prefer a DW Rogue for that reason. Lots of fun to sneak behind things and obliterate them with high-speed backstabs, and spend your time in combat keeping threat on the tank, while you maneuver your rogue around behind them. Without that tactical element, he'd just be an auto-attack machine, which is pretty dull.

All people have been saying is that DW is POWERFUL. No one ever said its going to be your type of fun.

If you want to pwn enemies by activating abilities left and right, roll a mage. Me personally, I have fun with large numbers, and DW w/end game equips sporting an infinitely sustainable triple digit DPS is MY kind of fun.

DW warrior could be fun too. DW Rogue is more fun tbh, I have both.

It really comes down to stamina & upkeep management for DW warrior.

You could turn momentum off and use your stamina for other areas if you want. Damage might be lower be still get the job done. Your game, your choice.

I rarely use momentum at this point, but that's because Sweep->whirl->smite->'nades tends to kill everything in a handful of seconds. Before I had Smite, and the Spare skillpoint to pick up poisons, I used momentum a lot however.

Honestly, for everyone taking about how ridiculously power Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage combo is, it makes me think they've never even tried a dual wield Templar/Berserker.

Speaking of Templar...

I've been getting into decking out Alistair for spell resistance with the Knight Commander's armor. That has been really fun! Sure it's for a small portion of the enemies you face, but some of the emissaries later on can really suck! Al is upto 92% spell resistance right now, and he makes enemy mages cry. Optimal? Probably not, but entertaining to watch him ignore Crushing Prison? Absolutely!

Warden Commander's armor will fix your stamina problems.

I started a DW elf. Kind of making him a crazy elf that uses axes or a combination of axe and the dar misuey(name) dagger at the moment. I think that dagger looks wicked. The funny thing is I have him in full dalish leather at the moment and he can tank better than alistair in certain situations. Gets nailed from flanking, though. He's a good off tank. With the elf armor he has zero fatigue(1.3 or something- at one point it was -1. something if I read that right?) or close to it. I have no problem with using momentum and having a nice will power pool. In the full dalish gear his armor armor and defense is close to Alistairs, who is in heavier armor. Still early in the game so this will probably change. However, I'd like to try to keep him in elven type armor for rpg purposes. Seems silly for an elf to lumber around in heavy armor.Image IPB

Momentum takes up half your stam pool? OK. So use active abilities until half your bar is gone, then activate momentum for free. Extra DPS with no downside- it's not like you were going to get that stamina back before the end of combat anyway.

Sustainables are NOT meant to be active continuously, for the most part. They're a tactical tool. Know when to use them and when not to.

Not really worth using activated abilities unless they are an AE as momentum is just flat better DPS autoattacking.
