Is it just me or does anyone else think that rogues are useless?

I was an idiot, and I decided to do mages tower first with an archer rogue. So now I am pretty sure I am stuck in the Fade until I level up a lot more. Any suggestions of my ill-planned adventure? I also am playing it on Hard.

Some spoilers follow but mostly hints...

If you haven't yet done so, try grabbing a Lyrium vein in combat.

Have you met the mouse yet? If so, you'll be able to use the powers of mouse form to your advantage (they're pretty obvious). Later on you will get access to other forms. Obviously, there are four in total. After the first, they are obtained by defeating bosses in combat.

It is not mandatory, but strongly recommended that you move methodically around the entire Fade maps, exploring every nook and cranny. It is even necessary to go back to the starting point (once you have unlocked all the other forms) to get full value.

If something looks out of place and seems to have no purpose or function, try looking at it from a different perspective... perhaps a more spiritual point of view?

I already beat it with my Warrior in my first playthrough. So I know all those, but in the Darkspawn invasion, for example,  there are just too many enemies for my rogue to actually compete with. Preferred tactics or whatnot would be helpful.

If you use a different form it doesn't matter what class your human form is, so you should be able to solve it exactly the same way. The Fade isn't designed to be playerd in human form.

***spoiler (tactics used)***

I was having trouble my first time through the fade and I found the rat to be extremely helpful. You can stealth in combat so if I got stuck somewhere dying I would start in human form (or whatever works best) and when I get low on health switch to rat (which stealth automatically) and run away. I also used this to get some of the stat boosts without having to fight (for example the one with 3 stone golems is tough, but I just snuck up to it in rat form, switched out and grabbed it, then switched back to rat didnt have to fight).

Use golemn form. group all the dakspawn up in one spot and do the ground stomp(?) ability to kill them. If any remain they should be easy to kill.

Even if your main role is a healer, i think you'll do fine in The Fade, as long as you change into the right form in certain situations..

I've played the game through as both a warrior and a rogue human, and as a rogue dwarf and I find the rogue class to be the most diverse and satisfying to play. As long as you improve stats to make your companions complementary, a rogue is the most versatile at agile combat, stealth and retrieving treasure/lock picking. Try working your rogue up to Assassin and master dual weapons. Chuck lots of bombs and acid and use stealth for recon. You will never use a plain old warrior again!

+1 for the above. Rogues absolutely kick ass if used properly. Max out poisons and trap making and you will wreaking havoc in no time. Poisons and poison flasks are especially nasty. I can end a mage in 3 backstabs or a single stun if things go how i like them. Its almost nigh on impossible to be hit too (though it hurts a lot if you do) and you can dance arround everyone with combat stealth later on.

Cunning and Dexterity are really your only attributes who need to be upped with the odd strength for better armor here and there. No need for max dual wield, 2-3 points into it is mighty enough OR even better spec for a duelist as a second profession (along with assasin) and use daggers since the talents you will be specing into favour pointed weapons instead of slashing ones. In the end my Tier 4 daggers went and did MUCH more damage than my tier 6 and 7 swords which i have been using foolishly way too far into the game.

Things to keep in mind as a rogue

- Dump attribute points in cunning and dexterity only. Make sure you have around 20 - 22 strength by level 16 so plan ahead.

- Max spec into poison making and trap making. Divide points between one another as you level up.

- Professions for melee rogue is undoutedly Assasin + duelist

- NO NEED to spec into dual wield above 2 talent points

- Use daggers only

- Use damage enchantments on primary weapon only while leaving that stat increasins ones on your off-hand weapon.

- Make sure you get the talent that makes you attack with cunning instead of strength as soon as possible.

- Stealth is your friend (and level 4 stealth even better later on)

- Always try to backstab something

Thats pretty much all the advice i can give as a happy rogue (assasin/ duelist) player.

If you really want them to be, rogues can be extremely overpowered.

I thought this, thing is they are a bit different from the D&D rogue well all know and love. I'm using a jack-of-all-trades rogue at the moment - it's just a different way of playing. Try tier 4 stealth + traps + archery = quite a lot of fun as your victims wriggle helplessly as you hose them down with auto arrow spam. Or stealth + bombs = even more fun. I _hated_ the DA rogue to begin with, and it's the least 'obviously' powerful class but think about it differently and give it a try.
