I just want to say that my femshep romanced Thane, and I didn't feel the least bit screwed by the way things went. The whole way it played out was beautiful, moving, and left me in tears at the end. No regrets.

That said I understand why some might feel otherwise, but really he was dying from the moment you met him, you can't really be surprised. Anyone with Jacob got f***** though, badly. I was surprised and a little disappointed, especially as the whole Jacob story in ME3 felt awkward and forced anyway; "we're having a baby" sounded wrong and farcical when Jacob delivered that line (maybe just the VA's fault), I twitch every time.

I wish Allers had just been left as a journalistic sideline (even better, replace her with Wong). I didn't like her, her VA sounded flat, and her model came out... odd.

I loved Shep's relationship with Garrus, but I think the platonic relationship is just as good as the romance (nothing wrong with the romance, everything with Garrus came off brilliantly).

The lesbian assistant felt too much like it was written by a dude who was trying *really* hard to do right and present her as strong and independent without really knowing what that would look like. A for effort and intent, but C+ in execution. Liara's great (though Ali Hills always sounds uninvolved and removed... worked well for her work as Lightning, but made some scenes fall a bit flat as Liara), but she better be as she's the closest to the cannon relationship that there is.

So um, yeah. That's my 2 credits.

I actually thought the uninvolved and distant-thing was intended for Liara. She is the shadowbroker now and preoccupied. She is experienced and a little bitter. She is a member of a long-lived race and over 100 years old and she is expecting everything to end in tears. I felt that even during the love-scene she was keeping her distance a bit. It was just hard to really "get" to her. I kinda liked it - it left me wanting more in the end. In many ways she treats Shepard as if he is already a ghost.

Not sure if this matters but I've only been in the US for about...8-9 years? Before that it was Belize and Taiwan...I don't think I'm that qualified to speak on behalf of the US Garrus fans lol

Yea, well im comfortable being who i am. 95% straight 5% gay, really just straight though, but i can be like, oh that guy is hot with a girl or whatev. But some of the non-optional gay flirtation was strange, considering all straight flirtation IS optional. Shepard inviting James Vega to bed for example "it's not as hard as it looks!". Was a little surprised, not offended, just surprised. Not even necessariy against the narrative decisions they took, just surprised. Could see how people could get offended though.

Yeah, I do expect we were all in it knowing that Thane would die.  I think it's just sad that he was such a well developed character and he HAD to die, only to be replaced by marshmellow sauce and vapidity in the new love interests they brought in for women.  Shot yourself in the foot there, didn't you Bioware? "Crap people like him, but we already said he was dying!  What do we do?"  "Eh, throw some new ones in there and call it good."

I will say this, I did enjoy the chess match with Traynor, as that smacked of an honest char dev scene; it was endearing and made the character more than just an "assistant" but an actual friend, or friendly acquaintance. BUT...the scene before that in the shower played out like a bad porno.   Made me a little creeped out when my natural inclination to a paragon response was "Hey, go ahead and get naked and take a shower!"

I was mostly joking ;-) just never really understood the thing people have for Garrus. I was ok with him, but he just seemed a bit boring compared to some of the other characters. Oh well.

HAHAHAH Priceless.  I actually thought I saw the Miranda love scene with a FemShep.  Was that player created or actually in the game? Knowing it's a BioWare game, I've always been careful about how nice I am with other characters I don't want to romance on the off chance that the "nice" response comes out as "Lets have sex."

Female shepards get the short end of the stick? I thought the Garrus romance was easily the most touching and emotional part of ME3

Frankly, would have been easy to just make them all possible same sex romance options. It's not an aspect of the game that should'nt have been limited as to the choices players make. It's a preference thing, and wouldn't have influenced the ending.

Interesting point, OP, but we FemShep players get Garrus. I'd say that actually puts us ahead of BroShep players. B)

GAHAHAHA.  If only the men knew how true that is ;) They do get an awfully smarmy BroMance scene with Garrus, though, on top of the Presidium. He's just probably the best thing ever written ever and no one can deny it.

It also teases how BroSheps don't get Garrus.  "You're not going to propose marriage, are you?"

Hnnnnnng, IF ONLY YOU'D LET ME, GARRUS.

IF.

ONLY.

well then that goes back to the never ending arguement about how being gay is either a choice or not :P  if everyone is an option then that means everyone is suddenly bisexual! i like what they did in mass effect where some are clearly gay, some are bi, and some are totally straight. i think it's way better than dragon age's EVERYONE'S BI thing.

Boring? You know who I think was boring? Jacob. That dude was boring to me--and thank god I didn't romance him

Yeah my femshep who saved Ash and didn't romance anyone in ME3 was very disappointed in what was on offer. I prefer romancing male characters for the most part, so that playthrough was pretty disappointing.

I also was really disappointed in how Thane and Jacob's romances were handled. That was really irritating.

Sorry OP, I cannot get behind any thread with the word "unfair" in it  :P     I'll agree to an extent though: a few more same-sex romances couldn't hurt.  At least they are possible this time around, right?

My original FemShep didn't romance anyone in ME1 (because I had to choose via the PS3 comic and didn't know anything about the two characters) or anyone in ME2. She also let Kaiden die on Virmire. I didn't realize until after beating the game that she actually had so few options. She ended up not romancing anyone.

At the very least, it would probably help if Garrus were romanceable in ME3 even if you didn't romance him in ME2. (Likewise with Tali.) Given that the trio from ME1 are all romanceable regardless of previous romances, it seems odd that Tali and Garrus were singled out like that.

i'd argue that it's a good thing Tali and Garrus weren't options without previous involvement.
makes the choices you made in 2 more significant.

  Lesbian players have 3 options

Umm, no. Casey Hudson oficially stated that romance with Liara is not lesbian at all, Allers doesn't count since it couldn't be called even a fling, and Samantha's romance is so seriously underdeveloped in terms of quantity and quality of dialogues (she doesn't even have one scene on Citadel as everyone else) that all it contains is mostly that tasteless "hawt girl on girl shower action" scene.

So in fact lesbian players have no options at all...

Sure, it's great that they're opening up to more of their fanbase :) But the only reason why they're doing it is because of how vocal we are (someone already brought up them making Tali and Garrus romance options because we all asked for it after ME1)   So I do believe that being vocal and saying the things I said is important, because they'll keep making those positive changes based off of what we're saying.   I think I just want more quality romances for everyone overall, instead of two quality romances for straight women, one quality romance for homosexual women and men, and five quality romances for straight men.   The "bones" they threw to gay men and lesbian women are hardly up to par with what straight men and women (and yes, us straight gals do get great romances, even if we hardly get any to start with)

I also don't understand why you won't get behind what is essentially a concept you agree with because someone uses a word you don't like, but whatevs ;) As long as you're open to fairness, I'm okay!
