My original FemShep didn't romance anyone in ME1 (because I had to choose via the PS3 comic and didn't know anything about the two characters) or anyone in ME2. She also let Kaiden die on Virmire. I didn't realize until after beating the game that she actually had so few options. She ended up not romancing anyone.

At the very least, it would probably help if Garrus were romanceable in ME3 even if you didn't romance him in ME2. (Likewise with Tali.) Given that the trio from ME1 are all romanceable regardless of previous romances, it seems odd that Tali and Garrus were singled out like that.

i'd argue that it's a good thing Tali and Garrus weren't options without previous involvement.
makes the choices you made in 2 more significant.

I can see that line of thought. Although, the FemShep I mentioned was holding out for Tali so she would have been out of luck either way I suppose. :P

I was all for the gay romances, that's fine with me.

HOWEVER.

If you're going to make the male characters bisexual so that male/male can happen, DO. THE. SAME. WITH. THE. FEMALES.

I'm bisexual-leaning-towards-men. I generally romance men in these types of games. DA2 did it right. Everyone was bisexual. Great, awesome. (I hate them for not including Varric, whatever. At least I have some options... sort of... I don't do skanks (Isabela) and I tried Fenris and he did a hit and run on me, so that was nice... so I can pick from Anders or Merrill.. STILL.. it's choices.)

ME2 and 3 completely screwed up on this one.

Am I supposed to believe that Jack isn't bisexual? That Tali isn't like Liara, and wouldn't love Shepard if Shepard was a female? Tali and Liara are the best examples of Shepsexual I have ever seen.

Then again, I'm also the ass who thinks it's unfair that Wrex, Grunt, Mordin, Joker, Zaeed, Legion, James, and Javik weren't romanceable.

I'd do anything to have them be romanceable. Yes, even Legion. He's adorable.

And also, to hell with them for screwing up Jacob's romance. That makes me so sad. If they're going to try to be all, "Well, every romance can't work" they should have made it so that no matter who you're romancing, if you do too much of the things that that person doesn't like, they'll leave you. End of story.

First, I find your "For those of you wanting to jump up and proclaim straight white male plantation owners (oops, I mean game owners) are a gross majority of gamers and that everyone else is in the fringes, here's where you're wrong:" to be offensive and racist.

Secondly, your "proof" still shows that male gamers are the clear majority despite it not being sourced or revealing as the to the method of the data collection to determine if there has been any manipulation/massaging of the data. You see, there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Third, I have reported you post as racially offensive to the moderators.

Umm, no. Casey Hudson oficially stated that romance with Liara is not lesbian at all, Allers doesn't count since it couldn't be called even a fling, and Samantha's romance is so seriously underdeveloped in terms of quantity and quality of dialogues (she doesn't even have one scene on Citadel as everyone else) that all it contains is mostly that tasteless "hawt girl on girl shower action" scene.

So in fact lesbian players have no options at all...

Well i can say for myself i have 2 playthrews with ash as my vs as femshep 1 romanced thayne and the other dosent have a romance at all threw the first 2 games neather will see a me3 playthrew even if the endings are fixed since there is no romance option for straight femshep with ash alive unless i want to go back and romance garrus and no offience to those who like the garrus romance but i just wasent intrested in him as more than friend..........

I figured bioware would give us at least 1 option for those who dont have kaidan alive maby joker (insted we got joker and edi ) or vega and after all the flirts for vega that went nowere can't see why he wasent an option as far as the reporter goes i cant call it a romance more of a booty call than anything.

@KDD-0063 lol yes i know who anomen is and the situation does remind me of bg2 and all the playthrews were i only had him as lI before i decovered fan made mods........ kinda whish me3 was easer to mod for fans to fix this and give me3 more repaly value than it has now...

Also, while I don't agree that they should make everyone bisexual, Tali kind of confused me. Cause she even said in ME2 that she wanted to share suit enviroments with my femshep. Isn't that the kind of thing Quarian's do if they're "together" not just good bros?

Because of that exchange (and the fact that FemShep can accuse her of blushing just the same as BroShep can), I thought maybe they intended to open up the FemShep romance in ME3. I figured it was something like Tali being more uncomfortable with FemShep than BroShep (maybe same-sex attraction was more of a leap than simple cross-species? I don't know) and it would take more time to develop.

The info in the Shadow Broker lair on Tali (that details her downloading info on human body language and courtship and stuff) is the same whether you have a male or female Shepard as well.

Pfffft. You're cute.  You're probably the dude who filed the FTC complaint against the endings too, aren't you?  ;) Love throwing down that "I'm calling in the establishment to save me!" card.

Here's the link to the original ESA (that's Entertainment Software Association) report that cites these demographic percentages.  You know, in case you missed it, in my original post.  http://www.theesa.co...ESA_EF_2011.pdf
As 42 - 58 percent is NOT an overwhelming majority, it was a way to demonstrate that the shift in who's playing games is changing, partially due to games actually targeting women more.  Target us more and we'll play more and spend more money!

I'm sorry if you found my joke racist.    I don't find it to be at all racist and don't think a majority of posters here in the comments section found it to be so, either, many of them stemming from various different racial, religious, ethnic or cultural backgrounds, as well as various gender groups.   So I'm not at all apologetic about the content of my comment, as it was a joke and many took it the way it was intended.   I hope you're at least happy that your comment garnered you the attention of a reply, which I'm sure is what you were really looking for ;)

The lesbian assistant felt too much like it was written by a dude who was trying *really* hard to do right and present her as strong and independent without really knowing what that would look like. A for effort and intent, but C+ in execution. Liara's great (though Ali Hills always sounds uninvolved and removed... worked well for her work as Lightning, but made some scenes fall a bit flat as Liara), but she better be as she's the closest to the cannon relationship that there is.

So um, yeah. That's my 2 credits.

Yeah, I do expect we were all in it knowing that Thane would die.  I think it's just sad that he was such a well developed character and he HAD to die, only to be replaced by marshmellow sauce and vapidity in the new love interests they brought in for women.  Shot yourself in the foot there, didn't you Bioware? "Crap people like him, but we already said he was dying!  What do we do?"  "Eh, throw some new ones in there and call it good."

I will say this, I did enjoy the chess match with Traynor, as that smacked of an honest char dev scene; it was endearing and made the character more than just an "assistant" but an actual friend, or friendly acquaintance. BUT...the scene before that in the shower played out like a bad porno.   Made me a little creeped out when my natural inclination to a paragon response was "Hey, go ahead and get naked and take a shower!"

Honestly, after Thane's death I left it at that.  He was Shep's last romance before everything went to hell in my playthrough.  I might have gone forward with Liara at that point, but I have another Shep prepped from ME1+2 that's stuck with Liara the whole time waiting to go.  Once we get this "expanded" content I'll load her up.  I've tried multiple times to do a male shep, but Meer's voice doesn't fit the character for me, and I can't get into it. It's not that he's bad, his voice just doesn't fit for me and it wierds me the f*** out.

Kaiden might have been a contender, but there was just too much distrust between them after Horizon (ME2) for that to feel right for me.  If the new ending really nails it for me, I'll probably do another ME trilogy playthrough with a Garrus romance.

But wouldn't the fact that women "perceive" them as women and as lesbians would be attracted to them make it a lesbian relationship?   I mean, (as an example) I would consider a relationship with Legion "hetero" because despite it's lack of bits or gender, it portrays itself as a male. At least I think it does.

Say your piece and all that, it's all good, but why does everyone list that same bogus thing when it's been repeatedly discredited numerous times.  That study includes all games, facebook games, iOS games, everything.  There's a difference between all gamers and Console/PC gamers.  18% of players play Femshep.  Let's say that all of those are female.  I'm fully aware that males play femshep, I'm one of them but just for your arguments strength I'm going to say all of them are female.  Let's also so that no female plays as maleshep.  That's a more than fair trade.  Let's also round you 18% up to 20%, just for simple math.  Congrats you are 1/5th the playerbase at an absolute maximum.  It's closer to 7-9% by the way, but I'll give you 20%.  If I'm a business I'm still going to cater to the 80% as much as possible.  Sorry.

Wow, really? I thought...you know, the boobs made it kind of obvious.  Is it because of the whole Asari are technically asexual but just look like women?

Rather just for reasons stated in tv tropes. It was always funny because even in game lore says directly otherwise (ME codex since first game: "Asari are all female race").

Nevetheless, it cheapens the experience, because it shows that it wasn't made with lesbian players in mind.

And BTW, asexual mean lacking the drive to have sex. Interestingly, even though it was also stated that asari reproduce actually in asexual way (mental melding or sth - sex isn't necessary), they also showed sexual drive (and only when it comes to female sexual traits - Aethyta express adoration for Benezia's breasts, and message of those celibate Ardat Yakhsi shows excitement over seeing mentioned in ME2 erotic film with asari).

I'm sorry but that's not only splitting hairs, it's actually wrong.  Casey clearly didn't check his biology before making that (pandering and ridiculous) statement.  Parthenogenic species (i.e. the Asari) are only "monogendered" in the sense that they are all *female*.  I'll accept that, due to not having a male gender role in their culture, that there's no such thing as "homosexuality" for Asari, but as far as Shepard's concerned, Liara's a woman.  So while Liara is arguable "not a lesbian/bisexual" a relationship with Femshep is a lesbian relationship as far as Shepard's experience and perspective are concerned.

Edit:  And can you all drop this nonsense over the joke?  Seriously, your false outrage comes off as hollow posturing.  Quit going out of your way to be offended.  It may not have been funny to a lot of people, but pretending it's "racist" or offensive is just laughable.

Yeah OP, I noticed that too and made me wonder a bit on the possible reasons that led to this.
I found one that seems likely to me and it's James Vega.
I really foresee that he will be the main focus of a planned future DLC.
Think about it: he came out of nowhere and was awesomely dubbed and written (even all the straight males that i know found him funny, consistent and really liked the character),
It was really a huge surprise to see that he was not romanceable at least for female players, even if a lot of flirts are in the game (or so I heard since i didn't played a femshep yet).

It's really likely that they will release at least one DLC centered on a squad member.
Let's call out Liara (she was already in LotSB) and Garrus/Tali (they coul be dead from ME2).
This leaves us with EDI and VS (and Javik but he's already a DLC so...).
EDI's story is followed deeply during the whole main story so I would call her out too and VS is not an option either since they can die during the coup.

James is the sole character with plot armour that was not completely developed and I can really see him being the focus of a DLC of some sort.
And in my opinion that DLC will contain his romance, just as LotSB contained the renew of Liara's in ME2.

Male Kaiden is romancible by ManShep, he came onto me at Apollo Cafe. So thats 2 options for homosexual male (Kaiden, Cortez), 2 for homosexual female (Liara, Traynor), 3 for heterosexual Female (Garrus, Kaiden, Vega), 3 for heterosexual male (Liara, Tali, Williams). In addition all ME2 relationships can be maintained besides Jacob (Miranda, Jack)

Kelly Chambers, Diana Allers are classified as a fling, doesn't count as a real relationship, may be persued by either heterosexual male or homosexual female.
