I've been wondering for a long time now, why games seem to be reviewed primarily with the gameplay and visuals in mind. A game like Killzone 2 recieved good reviews because of the visuals, despite having a lackluster story and offensive characters. If the same mindset applied to movies, Transformers would be at the top of the review charts, but it's not. So what gives? Do you think we'll ever see visuals and gameplay as a means to an end, and not just an end in itself?
Maybe I'm just getting older, and my enjoyment from video games is derived from another aspect, but I really do feel, that the future of gaming isn't the number of enemies on screen, but the reason the enemies are there in the first place.
PS: I just wanted to point out this isn't about the ending of Mass Effect 3, just something I've been thinking about lately.
WIll games ever be reviewed, based on the story, characters and themes?
