Vanguard doesnt have any of the same appeal I found while playing Adept, or the amusement that comes from Soldier's facerolling everything with OP weapon superiority.
I was thinking of giving the games other caster class some time and I was wondering just how much of a departure it would be after playing Adept?
I've already gotten attached somewhat to the one man army type of build in being able to throw down a Drone and Turret while trapping just about everything I can touch with Overload in the cross fire. I am curious as to what sort of armor parts to use to maximize use, I'm already thinking that Rosenkov parts with a couple Serrice Council's to boost damage for powers like Overload and Incinerate. Also wondering what would make a decent bonus power to use since I would start with all of my bases being covered in stripping defenses, AP ammo looks decent enough since it gives me outs to Guardians without having to re-deploy Drones to make them turn while giving me a damage boost that isnt overly combo dependant.

Well you've got your basic combo spamming engineer and your other builds. Obviously the first variety is not that different from an adept. This is the kind of engineer I'm playing now, so I'll only comment on that. Tech combos are a bit more varied and some are harder to pull off than biotic combos. This increases the appeal of the class to me and makes it ever so slightly different.
I believe a pure caster engineer is best off using the inferno armor (-30% cooldown, +30% power). I also use Javik and Garrus with the right passives to get another +20% power.
I use Carnage as a bonus power. For fun, and because it sets off a fire explosion if timed well and combined with Incinerate.

Engineer explosions from most powers require you kill the mobs with a power, unless its overload then any power hit triggers it. PS getting the Cyro weakness (+25% standard 50% armoured increased damage) & incinerate +damage to frozen/chill targets (+100% to these) = big damage if comboed cyro-> incinerate. IMO the +% damage to chilled/frozen targets is better than the +50% to armoured for Incinerate, of cause you have to cast both to get full benifit.
If you want to use Turret and Drone as major part of your build grab the class tier 6 drone & turret upgrade for the +100% life and 50% damage increase.

The idea I had in mind for my build would be around the One Man Army style with Drone and Turret to do most of the work and going for Chain Overload for pure CC and hate on large groups.
I'm considering AP ammo since I would be putting Cryo Ammo to work on the turret, and since its a general **** off for dmg boosting weapon wise.
Weapon wise I'm almost set on going either with just the Paladin for 200% Cooldown bonus or using the Hurricane for the same role with a large pile of ammo
I know the combos are harder to pull off if you are looking to get Fire Bombs fairly often, though with using Cryo Ammo on the turret, it would be easier to throw down Ice Bombs or the occasional Shock Bomb. MP is coloring the way I wanna play though in SP with the class just because its always been hilarious to just Drone and Overload spam my way into clearing mooks and heavies.

To clarify, electrical explosions do not require the target to die. They can also be set up with Sabotage (which is a brilliant power anyway), by the way.
Fire and cryo explosions do require the target to die.
Sabotage plus overload or incinerate is how I deal most of my damage, by the way. Shock bombs should not be underestimated, and neither should Sabotage and its 100% more tech damage taken debuff.

Oh so Sabotage works like overload? Nice to know.

I think the Drone also can set up Shock Bombs. Not sure on this, so take it as you will, but I think that pulling an Overload on something hit by the Drones standard shock attack will set off a Shock Bomb for more debilitating effects.
May be wrong though and just was seeing things in MP.

I think it can but I have barely used it at all. I also tried the turret upgrade with cryo ammo and this appears to set up cryo explosions.
Dev posts have also stated that ammo powers can be used for combos as well (cryo and incendiary, and probably disruptor).

There is only one solution: defense drone!
Other than that, pack a shottie and take defense matrix. That's always fun.

termo: Only reason I suspect that Drones can set up Shock Bombs is because of watching a group of mooks get trapped on their backs because of my Drone on their flank and me standing there and hitting Overload asap. I think the big draw I have with Shock Bombs is that they carry the Neural Shock to everything in range which Chain Overloads dont do.
If I wanted to go for complete facerolling, then Defense Drone and taking Shottys would be the way to go. I wanna be semi sporting.
