So Bioware lied. It is sad.If only they said before release :
"Plans changed. We're gonna try something different for the ending..."
When a friend tell me many lies, I don't trust him anymore. If he says he is truly sorry and that he will make up for it, I will consider forgiving him.
Bioware didn't even say they were sorry. Nothing. They are a business, so I'll give them some time. They are preparing an announcement in April.
If I don't hear "we're sorry", I will feel insulted. And I will ignore them. That's what I would do with a friend, that's what I'll do with Bioware.

If this is the ending, then the brand has been badly damaged.
If this is not the ending, then the brand has been badly damaged.

What I believe is that time constrains and schedules, and perhaps policy changes during the creation of Mass Effect 3 forced the game take a diferent course from what was originally planned.
That doesn't excuse Bioware, but while I believe they'd do good to "fix" the endings, I don't think they've deliberately lied and betrayed their fans just to sell more games.

I'm ok with the idea that Shep dies, I'm also ok with alot of the other stuff in the ending. What I was really upset about was the fact I didnt get the game ending to finish off the series which was advertised. Just a pick A,B or C.. (pick a colour!)

The best solution from the beginning would have been if BioWare get feedback from fans, what kind of endings they'd like to see. Bittersweet, happy, sad, terrible etc.
It was really risky to advertise all this and not involve the Fanbase more than they did. The result speaks for itself!

You're saying Obsidian decided this?Dave Hoffman wrote...
It all reminds me of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Those not familiar, Google it. To make their Christmas shopping deadline, Obsidian shoved that thing out the door with an ending thrown together with sticky notes and masking tape. Some smart people dug into the game files and found loads of spoken dialog and cut-scenes for an ending that was never developed.
Address the one responsible; Lucasarts chose that it had to have just a 14month development time. No one at Obsidian would wanna have it forced it on themselves(and having to abandon the content they had to). It was also Lucasarts decision whether the game would of gotten fixed after release. Obsidian at the time were hardly in any place to do anything to affect the project.

Worse, not only didn't they said "we're sorry", they basically called us whining babies. In a very PR way, yes, but a polite insult is still an insult...

Most folk I know accept hype as part of the selling point, but there is a major difference between hype and making promises that have not been delivered, as far as advertizing standards go they have over stepped the mark with misleading promises.Drak41n wrote...
It's puffery and it happens all the time. It's what promoters do. They said they going to do something so... go do something relaxing! All this forum raging can't be healthy.
Disclaimer: just to be clear, I do not agree with those taking this to the FTC, the backlash from the fans was more than enough to get Bioware to sit up and take notice.

A company advertises that they sell ducks. I ordered a duck. I was sent a platypus. I called the company and said you advertised ducks and so I ordered a duck. The company told me but the platypus has a duck's bill and duck feet. My response: that may be true, but you advertised and I ordered a duck.
Bottomline: A platypus is not a duck; the ME 3 game advertised was not the game I received.
EDIT: Using a duck and a goose may be an even closer analogy, but how ofter do you get to say the word "platypus."
Still I hope I have made my point. Thanks! Hold the Line!

Personally I don't even need a "we're sorry" they can keep their pride if that's what it is about. Just want an ending that mass effect 3 should of had to begin with. Something similiar to the last game but showing how each and every war asset effects the war.DuncanId wrote...

Show me why I should care that Wrex is leading the Krogan and not his brother. Show me why I should let the Rachni queen live. PLEASE show me what Jack and her biotic students contribute. I really don't want to have to just use my imagination, that's just not what I paid for, or was led to expect from BioWare and Mass Effect.
That said still love the franchise, specially the first two, but it's gotten painful to replay strictly because of the ending. Cource I wish it had more RPG elements, specificaly the looting. But I'll take what I can get, just can't budge on that ending.

Your statements might be correct if everything they said was before the game went gold. However, many of them were made just before it went gold, and many were made after. As you should be aware, once a game is gold, the content is locked because that is the point they start burning the disks and begin packaging everything for shipment.Shallyah wrote...
I do not think that Bioware realy advertised their product in a disloyal way to their followers. The way some statements were made were "tainted" with a lot of passion and belieft, so either Casey Hudson deserves a role in Hollywood or he wasn't lying.

Which makes me think they planned this, if only to get feed back on the ending and finishing it up. I just have a hard time believing they weren't planning on using the indoc theory.JohnnyG wrote...
