Now before you say "well there you are then, over 8000. Nothing more to see here.", these numbers are too high, requiring such things as both Kaiden and Ashley to be alive and simultaneously rescuing the council and letting them die in ME1. There's also mutually exclusive events within ME3 itself, some  minor some not so minor. After studying the numbers I have found the optimized path for getting the absolute highest possible number of war assets even if it forces you to play like a shizophrenic looney. Here it is, the highest war assets score you can achieve.

Alien: 1000
Alliance: 1701
Asari: 668
Crucible: 815
Ex-Cerberus: 260
Geth: 815 OR 665
Krogan: 795
Quarian: 675 OR 825
Salarian: 338
Turian: 633

TOTAL: 7700

There are two values for the quarians and the geth because one of them has to take a 150 penalty, it doesn't matter which.

I'm not done with this play through yet, but I just wanted to mention that my Krogan assets = 870, which is more than what is claimed above from the data mining extrapolation. Most of my other assets are still lower than whats listed above (total EMS is 3285 currently). I've only been on single player too. Hoping to not have to jump into MP

Yes, it's possible to get some individual war asset categories higher, but those numbers I provided are for the highest overall total.

You probably kept Wrex alive and sided with the krogan in ME3, which is the how you get the highest number of krogan assets, but killing Wrex can result in a net gain when factoring in Salarian assets.

What important Salarian on the Citadel? The only Salarian I remember on the Citadel was the one on the Council and they died on my playthrough.

Um wow, having had time away for a bit and looking at my numbers I just noticed a glaring error in the geth and quarian number. That's kind of embarrasing.

It should be;
Geth: 815 OR 515
Quarian: 525 OR 825

It's a 300 point difference. Oops.

No, in my first playthru, I couldn't save that person. But in my 2nd playthru, I made sure to do so. And all I got was the tiny little group from the Salarians. There's a glitch.

No, in my first playthru, I couldn't save that person. But in my 2nd playthru, I made sure to do so. And all I got was the tiny little group from the Salarians. There's a glitch.

I got 153 (20+133) but the max isn't very high either 338 or something. If you do certain things in ME1, ME2 and the Genophage arc, you get the max but your points in krogan assets goes down.

What important Salarian on the Citadel? The only Salarian I remember on the Citadel was the one on the Council and they died on my playthrough.

Then unfortunately your Salarian points will not be very high in any situation unless you do as the dalatrass wants (and even then you need ME1 and ME2 to happen in a certain way or your loss in krogan assets kills the gains)

The problem is, you're not supposed to be able to get both values maxed at the same time.. The texts for the point awards are quite clear about that.

So the total in that calculation is actually 7,550 (as another person once calculated), because either the quarians or the geth are losing 150 more points than what was shown (the current total only deducts 150 points).

So just for the record, I've just finished my NG+ with around 3560 EMS (GR at 50%, all side-quest and scanned systems), "saved" Anderson, picked the DESTROY option... and of course no bonus scene.
Because I spent too much time on this forum I'm starting to think this is all part of "The Great Fake Speculative Ending" or whatever you wanna call it.

See if they fix the EMS problem now they would have to change it again when they release "a real ending"... So they just delay us...

I know, I know what they said but seriously I don't believe them, I don't believe PR, I don't believe anyone at this point

Well, it took them more than a month to acknowledge that there MAY be an issue with EMS, and they just started looking into it, so they will comment when they reach some conclusion. Or should I say if.

To be fair they hve commented, they lock other threads regarding the issue, say there is no problem, then reply with "well I managed it" to any pm'd queries.  

They are just not very good comments and show a fair whack of disdain for their customers.

Pfft, they were probably referring to the fact that you can get Synthesis with Shepard alone.
...which as we all know, isn't the best ending, yet was touted as such.
So... jedi truth? Still a lie, though.
