Mantis X vs Widow vs Black Widow vs Valiant

To hihey54: Took all damage/headshots/sniper damage. I did take 30% weight on sniper rifles for the last Salarian Operative? tree, since I use black widow. On hindsight that might make a difference (ie using Valiant I can take the damage option instead). But thanks for the info.

But on my QI, I use the Mantis X, which gives me the fast cooldown time (why must they have a machine pistol bonus?!?), and when I tried the Widow with her, I didn't like it.
Don't have either of the others yet.

Weaker, yes. But it's also lighter, reloads faster and has zero recoil.DrekorSilverfang wrote...
BW is an ideal balanced weapon. Valiant is a weaker version of the BW.
I put BW wielders to shame with my Valiant.

I'm currently rocking a Widow II (or was it III?) on my SI. I tried the Mantis X on it, wasn't keen.

I use Mantis X on my Turian soldier along with Phaeston. Phaeston isn't bad at taking down Barrier/Shield and lowbie enemies but when I have to deal with Phantom, Ravager, Stripped Banshee, Brute, Stipped Atlas, Cerberus Turret, Guardian etc.. I pull my Mantis out to deal with them.

can someone try this with their valiant. log into multiplayer and create your own game. then shot at a wall with it and note where the bullet hits compared to the notches on the cross-hair. it does not hit at the absolute center but at a notch below regardless of how far you shoot. i.e. very fake bullet drop. so I have to question whether you have center headshots and the center of your cross hair but rather a notch below center. the widow fires dead center with no travel time whatsoever.
Wow i just tried it, you are right. Actually it gets even weirder. With the Valiant, shooting 3 shots in a row at the wall will result in a vertical climb of the shots. Ie the crosshair does NOT reset to the original position. I am 100% sure of this I just tried it out. Using Black Widow, the crosshair will reset on the exact same location when firing 3 shots one after another.
Do this: Create Firebase dagger, when you spawn, fire into the room on your direct right at the vertical pillar in the middle. Using Valiant, the shots will keep climbing up (dont move your mouse). Using Black Widow, the shots all land on the same spot!

Back to topic; I really want a black widow. Is it black rarity?

Viper is better than Valiant IMO
lol. why? because you have more ammo in the magazine? if you factor in the reload speed you actually fire more bullets with the valiant despite this than with the viper. it has a long list of drawbacks and is worse than the valiant in almost every way but is lighter. (not much of an adv actually if you like to invis>SD>shoot because cd is exactly the same and not weight dependant.

I don't know what you mean by the Black Widow can't 1 hit kill lowest tier enemies. Because it does for me on gold. Against Ceberus, I can kill 3 troopers in under 2 seconds all with body shots (chest/head). And 2 body shots for a centurion. I honestly don't even aim for the head anymore depending on the enemy. (Marauders/Centurions are just double body shots with ease) though keep in mind this is all with a QI.
Now the regular Widow is ideal for the Salariain. Energy drain/1 shot kills most things, but you have the super heavy artillery for Primes/Atlas's/Brutes.

correction actually. it DOES fire dead center but the muzzle climb is NOT corrected after resetting. so while it does not have recoil it has muzzle climb that is very minute and predictable.

Yup what you meant, it fires dead center of your cross hair but the climb isnt corrected after each shot unlike the BW, which recenters at the same spot (even when holding down the mouse button). In order to fire all 3 shots in 1 dot you have to make very minor downward adjustments.

Yeah, in SP I was using a scoped paladin as a lightweight sniper rifle backup, got my mail slot achievement with it too! Next playthrough I'll be sniping properly though.

Having said that, I would much prefer a black widow for the 3 round clip. Once I get my first black widow I don't think I'll ever use my Widow again.

Terraflare, I just read your OP again, and I recommend you use AP mod instead of ammo mod with the valiant so that you can take out armoured units with it. It will take out primes quicker than BW once you do. if you dont do this I can understand why'd placed this under the BW since its really ineffective against a lot of high tier enemies if you dont. you still have 30 rounds total which is comparable to BW with ammo mod.
Yup, have been doing so. At the time of post my AP mod was only rank 1 and I felt it was weird.
Now it clears trash faster than BW due to outputting roughly 2x more headshots on as many different targets as you can aim at. Against fat targets I do feel the BW out DPSes it though, but its very close especially if you are using disruptor ammo (favours valiant) or sniper amp (favours BW due to higher base + multipliers).
Valiant is much better for when that hunter sneaks past your whole team and you need to quickly stagger it though. Even with reload-cancel getting caught with BW reload feels like an eternity compared to valiant.
All in all, very comparable guns and I swap depending on whether my team has more widows/blackwidows or more AOE. If i need to help clear trash (Ie team has 3 widow X's) then I bring Valiant. If team has an engi, a biotic and another Valiant user, I bring BW to help deal with big targets faster.

I dont have the valiant but from what i have seen others using it, it doesnt do the dmg of a BW.
Mantis is just a good sniper until you get the widow, usefull on silver not beyond.
