I think someone else should simply start a new drive. It doesn't make sense to willfully stop a charity drive just because you don't agree with why people are giving. At the end of the day, children were benefiting.

If this is true...wow just wow...keep digging yourself deeper....I hope it is not true though...
All for not having the courage to come out and talk to us like men(or women) all this hush hush is their doing...

at least the money is going to the children...that is a good ending

I think they plan on ending the drive once it hits 80k because childs play has been getting a lot of bad emails from people who think that they are affiliated with the Retake Mass Effect movement. It's untrue, but people dont research things.

It was shut down because of Child's Play was getting lots hate mail because of the donation drive. No evidence shows that EA/BioWare directly interfered.

They'd rather not have some bad email than $100K? I don't know.. that sounds ridiclious.

they get to keep the money.

As a charity, it is in their best interest to stay neutral in order to appeal to a wide variety of donors.  Child's Play was probably worried about being attached to the polarizing nature of Retake and being put in a bad spotlight by the media.  Sad that they no longer wish to receive donations from us, but the response is understandable.

There is absolutely no evidence to support that EA or Bioware had anything to do with this. Throwing around baseless accusations like that is disgusting. That's not holding the line, it's crossing it.

In the thread on the subject, the OP said that he put a cap on it at the request of Child's Play because people thought that the organization was openly supporting the Retake Mass Effect movement:

Really, really sketchy. Not happy with this at all. This charity drive was doing a lot of good. At almost 80k, I'm pretty sure they don't care about hate mail. Sounds like something more serious is going on with this.

Regardless, Retake on facebook is organizing another charity drive, so there'll soon be another positive outlet for all this frustration.

Exactly, Bioware should seriously be ashamed for shutting down a charity drive because they are scared of their fans.

Even if we get new endings I dont think I will want to buy anymore Bioware or EA games because that is sickly mean

Yeah it's funny how BioWare never mentions the hate and threats from ending supporters.

they aint gone but they aint assoicated with retake which is understandable. They don't want any trouble all they want to do is get money for children.

Which is a shame as even if we are angry at the ending the gamers/news should of atleast seen the good that came from it the charity.

But again most charitys don't want trouble they are there to help the sick not be in the middle of a **** storm that this has turned into so I understand the reason they backed out

So let me get this straight.

BW/EA would go as far as to set up anon accounts/get their IGN lapdogs to spam/flame a CHARITY, because they want our movement to die?

Gee I suppose to them, giving money to needy kids can wait, because their bottom line and 'reputation' are more important.

I can't get the pages to load either. Tried loading other page with no problem just to make sure it wasn't my connection. No dice definitely the pages.

Why couldn't the person who made this charity just put a note on the page saying "Child's Play is not affiliated with the Retake Mass Effect movement" instead of shutting it down completely?

Very suspicious...

That's one thing that is pushing me away from these threads is the growing amount of utter and baseless paranoia going around.  I understand if people don't trust Bioware to deliver on promises, but to create these wild theories that Bioware is trying to insidiously go after the people who play their games and give them money is ludicrous.  Focus on the problems that already exist people: don't create new ones.

There is no evidance that they have even done this. Stop spawning new theories and wait for some evidance. Then you can make a post about it.

Ah well, even if it has been shut down, the important thing is the money went to a good cause.

Those who donated can be proud of that.

Not loading for me either, but then again I couldn't get it to load for me a couple of days ago and then later it was working fine. Not seeing anything malicious or otherwise in this

That's dumb. Any person can host a drive.

Woah shocking that penny arcade, the site that gets paid by Bioware to make comics for them, has openly been insulting the retake mass effect campaign then suddenly Child's Play, the charity operated by penny arcade, asked them to stop.

How shocking.
