Attacking a damn children's charity simply because they're indirectly involved with us - that's lowest of the low.
EDIT: I'm not saying it's BW or EA, but they do appear to have been getting hate mail - THAT'S the lowest of the low.

There is absolutely no evidence to support that EA or Bioware had anything to do with this. Throwing around baseless accusations like that is disgusting. That's not holding the line, it's crossing it.
this.
This right here is why a lot of you people get banned and thread lockedl. Bioware/EA are NOT evil kitten killing companies. STOP throwing aroudn baselss accusations. You just make yourselves out to be the fools.

anyone who sends hate mail to a charity is disgusting.
For the record, I don't believe for an instant that either EA or Bioware had anything to do with this.

Actually, by suggesting the possibility, it makes certain that EA and Bioware know that we are paying attention. I also noted in the message how it was pointed out that no one believed Penny Arcade was behind it either. Thus we have all fallen into a catch 22. Child's Play shut it down for some reason, be it outisde pressure, internal pressure or simply because they wanted nothing more to do with such eager donors. Logically, there must be some sort of conclusion drawn. It doesn't mean that anything sinister happened, but we do need to keep an eye on these people (Ea/Bioware/Other outlets like Penny Arcade) very closely.

You do realize that the reason people assume EA did it is because they've destroyed a lot of good game developer companies.
Westwood being just the first.
They even killed their own Dead Space brand's primary designers.
They've done a lot of BAD.

Woah shocking that penny arcade, the site that gets paid by Bioware to make comics for them, has openly been insulting the retake mass effect campaign then suddenly Child's Play, the charity operated by penny arcade, asked them to stop.
How shocking.
QFT. I've got a lot of issues with Penny Arcade anyway but if this is true it's the cherry on top of my dislike.

A new charity campaign will be announced soon. The Retake movement has done too much good to stop now.
It's not about furthering our goals, it's about doing something to help others.
I'll keep you all up to date.

So, giving to charity in support of a cause is wrong and immoral. Pressuring a charity into refusing further donations is so right. I see the cold hard logic of it all.

Suggesting it is scandlalous and unethical and paints us as paranoid and reactionary.

I highly doubt EA or BioWare would do something like that.
If so, why not just take the whole forums offline?
It just doesn't make sense.

Maybe it's just me and I have a biased view, but does it seem like those who oppose Retake display more hostility than Retake does?

It's very disappointing that this result has occurred. I wish that both sides of the issue were fairly reported on, but so much of the media coverage doesn't seem to be grasping what both sides are saying. I genuinely hope that hate mail was not sent to the charity, that just makes me feel sick to think about.

Don't bring in that bias. I donated a huge chunk of money straight from my own wallet and I don't associate with Retake.

The sad truth is one of PA's employees, I forget his name, the fellow who stewards CP, has been a tool since the beginning.sistersafetypin wrote...
I think someone else should simply start a new drive. It doesn't make sense to willfully stop a charity drive just because you don't agree with why people are giving. At the end of the day, children were benefiting.
I saw how the drive started: you know what, people say we're just being negative and complaining, so what the hell, we're all here: let's do something positive while we're all wired up about something! And it might as well be something game-related!
That's all there was to it.
But watching whatisname's twitter from the start, he was one of the most vitriolic, bile-spewing trolls to the Retakers from the moment he heard about it.
SOMEONE must have finally pointed out the inherent boneheadedness of constantly insulting people donating thousands of dollars to his charity, though, 'coz he finally twittered some backhanded "oh, huh. well at least some good's coming out of it," and his twitter buddies continued to spew bile and vomit. I mean, seriously, not even like they were arguing, "Well, I believe this is an important issue..."
Nah, it was more like "wish those whiny ---wits would stfu already." IGN-kinda stuff.
I don't see any BW or EA hand here. The guy's a schmuck, he's acted like a schmuck, he's been unprofessional as the face of a charity, and rude and derisive of the many thousands of gamers who believe in this effort, and gave to his charity. Screw 'im. There are fortunately other ways to get money to people who need it.
St. Jude's Children's Hospital is a good example. Heck, Blizzard works with them for charity auctions, so you can even claim a game relation there if you want.
Bioware and EA have nothing to do with this. Sometimes a nimrod is just a nimrod.

While this is sad, the money did go to help a lot of kids so it was worth it.
Keep the line held.
