Yeah, not cool.

No Charity wants to be linked to anything that would be considered a controversy. I for one am kind of happy, it was nice at beginning but this is just getting kinda uglier as time goes on so I think it's for the best.

The situation with Planned Parenthood and Susan B. Koman suggests this isn't always true.

If you think about it, it was never really nice. It was never about the kids, it was about a group of people complaining about a video game and waving around money trying to, in short, bully a company into complying.

Charity is about the act itself, it's because you want to do it or you feel compelled to do it. Not because you want to do it as leverage to make someone/something do something you want them to do.

Awh dah poor wittle corporation, getting bullied by those big stupid mean customers, how horrible! What an atrocity! Let's forget that you're essentially saying that a business should disregard the audience it chooses to sell to which isn't like the basis for modern economics or anything, I'm sick of people treating a corporation like it's some damned child that needs to be protected. It's not a person, it's not male or female, it has no 'age', it was never born, it was formed with the expressed purpose of making money and providing a product, when that product is not satisfactory, people have a right to voice their complaints, it is within the business' interests to listen to the customers even though they already have the money. This basic tenent of operating a business is even more important for video game companies that intend to make post-release DLC as if people are disgruntled and angry enough that means they've made new content with no return to the resources they've put into it.

And if you make the 'well the employees are people' they are, but you aren't their mother, they don't need your protection. Stop it.

People can and will continue to donates to Child's Play regardless of whatever the hell happens here and your assertion that it was never 'nice' is an assumption, I had a small ioda of respect for you since you seemed to be somewhat respectful about your supporting the endings, but now? What do you think.

Excellent post lol

Thirty-five years and you've never seen people outwarly attack a charity event because they disagree with the sponsor? I see it near every year with the walks that happen here, and I'm still in my 20s.

No, I was stating I've never seen a charity kick moral, well-meaning donors to the curb in this fashion.

Really?  I've seen charities over here (Aberdeen) distance themselves from donations because they've been seen as carrying an agenda.  They'll take the money, but they'll tell you where to put your free advertising (Give you a hint, the sun shineth not :))

Not add fuel to the conspiracy, but I am sure child's play gets considerable support from EA, and potentially lower cost game prices/donations.

I'm not saying it was done maliciously. But you don't bite a hand that feeds you, after all. Child's play can't afford to be making enemies when it relies on the gaming community.

Very, very true. EA's donations > A movement's donations.

It's a smart move, if you look at it.

Except it's suspicious.

I don't see how it would be financially worth it from EA's perspective to buy the charity off rather than develop the ending DLC, especially since said DLC will probably be sold at a profit.

They didn't buy off the charity, The have been donating to Child's Play for YEARS and provididng them games. So your logic is seriously flawed.

Child's Play is funded and run by gaming companies that donate games and money for the children. All big companies are a part of Child's Play, and have been since pretty much the beginning.

I disagree, it just depends how you define "buying off".

It could be a lump sum.

Or it could be "Please stop their charity drive for our continued mutual interest."

Either way, if it wasn't a buy off (I'm not actually one of the tin-foil hat people here thinking EA did anything) then I don't see how they would've stopped it. Charities often accept donations from two companies simultaneously that are practically at war (eg. VISA/MasterCard) so I don't see how they'd choose to pull the plug for purely political purposes unless pressured.

guys this is exactly what IGN thinks we all are... please stop this... we might as well all fall on our swords if this is the kind of thing people think... neither EA or Bioware would do this... even if we assume they are capable of that (and i dont genuinly believe that) this would be suicide for them... they might as well post youtube videos of the execs eating babies...

There is absolutely no evidence to support that EA or Bioware had anything to do with this. Throwing around baseless accusations like that is disgusting. That's not holding the line, it's crossing it.

Ooh, I like this idea. It's definitely a worthy cause, and we even have the Mass Effect connection, as I recall a post stating that Kepral's Syndrome is based off of Cystic Fibrosis.

YES! Why I suggested. Thank you!!!! Surprisingly, I can relate to how Thane describes how he feels with the Kepral's Syndrome :P

Correct, Child's Play asked us to stop because they were getting hate mail.

Before any more finger pointing takes place stop and think. We amassed a lot of money for a worthy cause, and for that we should all be very proud. This is what really counts so please stop with the speculation.

Stay civil, and hold the line.

If EA had the clout to do this they would have done it from the beginning before this gained traction and CP would have simply said they don't want to be involved in the drama. The drive showed signs of getting big quite a while ago. This just seems like a charity that's been getting railroaded with letters, like what was already said, and doesn't want to take it anymore. This whole thread is starting to go nuts.

EA never would have done it for the simple reason that if Child's Play said 'no and we're going plublic'  EA would be in the Deep Brown.  I seriously doubt the guys at PA are the type who would tak to being bullied into submission (even if it is with a massive donation) from a massive corporation

It's probably not related to EA or Bioware. It's more likely that people didn't understand the concept or raising money for charity to raise awareness for an unrelated issue and Child's Play got a lot of awkward e-mails.
