 I am having a hard time determining which weapons i want to use throughout the game. 
I know for sure i want either the widow, blackwidow, or javelin as my main but what else should i bring?
I generally dont care about power cd bonuses but i would like to have a boost to my powers 
Any tips or suggestions would be welcomed=]

I started off with the N7 Valiant and the Vindicator, which you get pretty early. I got the Black Widow ASAP and used that with the Vindicator, and I got through Insanity very easily. The Mantis is good when upgraded. Avoid the lower damage/higher capacity sniper rifles imo.

Forget the black widow, stick with the Mantis untill you get the real Widow. If you're going sniper, than as a backup I'd either carry a lightweight AR like the Avenger, or whatever SMG you like.

For better DPS I'd go with the black widow. 3 heavy shots before reloading is much better since you can OSK most of the unshielded enemies.
