I thought that the whole kid thing was pointless. It did not drive me emotionally in any way. Maybe I'm being heartless, but I just... Didn't have any attatchement with the kid, and the dialogue with him didn't make me any more sensitive towards him. And after having seen that scene in the way early E3 demo, I couldn't bring myself to care. And the dream sequences were a bit annoying, since the whole kid burning didn't have any effect on me.

What was the whole point of the kid? I mean, I get that he's supposed to be a symbol for the people he could not save on Earth and all, but... Hasn't Shepard, being the war hero that he is, seen way WORSE things? Hell even squadmates die for the Reaper cause? Any other dead in the game, Legion, Thane, Mordin, kicked me right in the heart, and made me tear up like a little girl. But somehow the kid exloding in the shuttle was... "Well, alright".
And I hate how Shepard is so ofuscated by this kid, like jesus, he barely gave a **** about Legion, and yet he has the dream with the kid...

Honestly, the dream sequence would have had so much more impact on me if they'd added the dead squaddies in the horizon, and you trying to get to them, and when you actually do they burst in flames I would have CRIED everytime.

But the kid... I just didn't care about some random kid, a lot of people is dying on Earth, so why care about that one damn ****ing kid. It really pisses me off because I don't see -my- Shepard caring -that much- about the kid. And he's full paragon :/

Your opinion on the kid BSN?

(All of this ignoring the godkid of course)

I liked the part of the dreams where you heard Mordin and Legion's voices echoing at you, but everything involving the kid itself was annoying.

Intense hatred and urge to shoot alot of bullets at him on my second playthrough.

Actually tried to just shoot at him when he runs into the first building. But not possible :|

When I played the Demo and saw the kid on earth, it did have an impact, mainly to showcase the loss and so on...

Once playing the game and the fact they KEPT hammering the stupid child all over in dreams, then it just became pointless and was not as important...

Once i got to the ending... I just wanted an option to shoot the lil... aghhhh

I thought that was very, very touching. And actually got me into tears. But the whole chase was pointless, I used to stop and listen to the voices before running.

I actually had nightmares of that kid....man. And the nightmare where you hear your death teammates whisper at you just makes it worse.

The dream sequences were irritating.

The very first time I saw the kid, I felt a little pang of sadness. By the third dream, I was mildly irritated. By the ending, I was done. I do appreciate the attempts to pull at the heartstrings, but it felt overdone. And god-child certainly did not help.

did he have an impact on me, no.  But i viewed it as having an impact on shepard.  I think some things are meant to about shepard, others the players.

For an example of player impact: the renegade mordin scene, is the hardest thing ive ever watched and made me feel like a ****ty human being.  I almost felt like the writer was mocking me (in a good way) saying, oh you think youre a renengade, could you do this?  From a purely game standpoint shepard didn't even see that.

The only way I even remotely begin to like the kid as a theme is if I apply him to the Indoc Theory.

I understand they were trying to pull heart strings, and I imagine it worked on a few people, but for me it was tedious and reminded me of melodramatic action TV shows or movies.

I didn't like the dream sequences at all. Probably because just like in real dreams it felt like you had lead weights on your feet and couldn't outrun anything.

I actually kinda liked the IDEA behind it in that Shepard seemed to be disturbed by what happened back on Earth. But I don't think singling out that random kid in particular really worked. Would have been better to...dare I say it...kill off someone like Anderson at the start and had that haunting Shepard.

In light of the ending it would seem to be some kinda really poor hamfisted foreshadowing. Bit of a shame.

It felt like someone had slipped in an indy experimental game about existentialism into my aRPG. Took me out of the experience.

I hated the dreams. Not only could you not skip them, at least I couldn't find a way, The running in slow motion, and then having the boy run away numerous times made it even more aggravating.

I knew the boy was fake from the moment no one helped him onto the shuttle, but it was just too much of him throughout the game.

Loved Max Payne 1 & 2 so I'm generally okay with these things. The whispers of your dead comrades was a little bit of genius though. Then this:

His initial line of "you can't save me" was jarring and really poor writing.... unless he isn't real, then it's OK. The actual dreams effected me though because I knew he represented humanity(or was supposed to?) I took it as him emboding a young race in a dark world we didn't fully comprehend and he's running around, fascinated as a child until he crouches down and is in the fire/beam of the Reapers.

As soon as I met the Catalyst all that went out the window, now I just get mad chasing him around for the 10 minutes of ME3 I can stomach... I shoot him in the beginning.

The kid was a terrible addition aside from his initial moments that led to him actually getting killed. The effort to make him seem meaningful was extremely weak with the dreams. Just really fell flat. I can say though what would have had an impact: Having dreams where you imagine up the crew member you left to die on Virmire, and talk to them. That would have been good. Maybe get to add in any other crew members you lost as well.

I liked the dreams, to be honest. I thought they humanised Shepard somewhat.

The kid himself didn't bother me... UNTIL THE ENDING.

I thought the kid was cheap and manipulative.
It didn't help that he has one of those faces you just want to slap.
It also didn't help that his only dialogue "You can't help me." was atrociously acted and badly written (what child talks like that? Seriously?).

Exactly, and when considering the ending, is just... That was the way to justify Shepard's sacrifice? To justify the fact that the godchild looks like the kid? Because, I just don't get why so much kid. I think with the first scene, where the shuttle blows, and then the mention to Garrus when they lose Palaven would have been more than ENOUGH and would have kept the mood of "the tragic leaving of Earth" way better than rubbing the kid in your face everytime you completed a major mission.
