At first I thought the kid was maybe a bit too lame, and Sheps' reaction was overly emotional and out of place.

Until I found out about the idea of the kid being a Reaper machination, planted in Sheps' head, as suggested in Indoc theories etc, with that in mind, it makes sense, the kid is designed to have that effect on Shep, and it plays beautifully, it even makes the ending weirdness tie in better (granted we get the extended ending were that is confirmed to have only happened in Sheps' head)

The kid thing kinda got to me, but it was more thanks to Clint Mansell (3 steps from hell?) than the writing or visuals. The music really got me and made me determined to nuke the Reapers (HAHAHAHA yeah right).

I knew from just the demo that the kid was a rigged plot device from the fact only Shepard even acknowledged his existance and that he was literally in the first scene of the game on Earth.

As for the dreams? I thought they were kind of annoying, but mostly because almost no one died on my watch (And then the ending happened) so I didn't get very many whispers, most of the ones I got were from Kaiden so I didn't care.

I liked the idea of the kid burning at the end of the dreams but the execution didn't quite work for me. Part of it was that the kid was a little too plastic-looking, but also it didn't go quite far enough into horror to be really nightmare-level.

I didn't get very many whispers, most of the ones I got were from Kaiden so I didn't care.

Huh, there was more than one line from him? I've only played with Ashley-dead imports so far, but I've only heard one whisper from her per dream (and then ones from Legion and Mordin).

Well. They made me laugh because they were so hilariously over-the-top and the kid had such wooden voice-acting.

I liked it when he was blown up by the reaper, it was a real "**** just got real" and it set the tone for the rest of the game.

Again, I liked the dreams because they were bizarre, and showed vulnerability in Shepard that had previously not been seen in the series.

Don't know why the catalyst was the same child though.

I liked the dreams, to be honest. I thought they humanised Shepard somewhat.

The kid himself didn't bother me... UNTIL THE ENDING.

I agree.

Same, it gave a side to Shepard I had imagined but hadn't seen in the game.  For me it wasn't all Shepard being hung up about a kid, but rather what that kid represented - leaving Earth, the guilt of leaving her home planet behind (mine was earthborn), and those she couldn't save.  When Legion and Mordin's voices entered the scene, that was the icing on the cake.

When he first died, it had some emotional impact. The dream sequences were pretty stupid I thought, but I also thought they would lead to something. They didn't.

I'm not a huge fan of the kid, although I get what he stands for.

Kinda liked the nightmare sequences though. Especially when the dead squadmate stuff was added in the 2nd and 3rd ones. Just felt more visceral. Like even Shepard can't hide from the horrors inflicted by the war

The whole child thing was forced. I didn't like the trailers for this reason. Companies have to realize that they cannot introduce us to ANOTHER thing to care for just out of the blue. There needs to be build up, emotional attachment, blah blah blah and the dream scenes did nothing to me. When I saw that the god-child was the same model, that is when I realized BioWare is becoming worrying B-grade when it comes to writing.... It just seems like BioWare was becoming lazy and wanted to provide extra "significance" to ending by using the child, but it just felt cheap.

Intense hatred and urge to shoot alot of bullets at him on my second playthrough.

Actually tried to just shoot at him when he runs into the first building. But not possible :|

Most likely why Shep doesn't dream that he has guns equiped, even though he has his armour on... at one point I tried to run away from the kid... all it does it teleport you even CLOSER to the kid, I thought I could escape him too but he's everywhere! :pinched:

I believe whoever ended up dying in Mass Effect 1 (Ash/Kaiden) would of  been a much bigger impact due to the fact that Shep and Garrus mention the one who died quiet often during the game...

and to note, I would of shot the kid, I would of shot him so bad, he wish... he never been shot so bad... but yeah I would of done the Reapers job for him just towards that kid, that would of became the badarse shepard his and sucker punched every Reaper out there, just because Shep can.

If the godchild appeared as Mordin instead or something I wonder what the reaction would have been...

So far over the top, so forced, it wasn't needed nor wanted. The actual kid at the start, up until when he dies, was tolerable, although mostly pointless and way too blatant attempted manipulation. But when he came back in the dreams, it was just annoying.

The major issue is that you can't just tell people they have an emotional connection to a character. And for anyone who puts themselves into Shepards place as they play, that's essentially what they tried to do, and we ended up rejecting it with full force.

The dreams would have been far more in line with the game and far more emotional and impacting if they changed based on your actions in the game. Your love interest, your most used squad mates, your choices concerning the geth and the quarians, the krogan... These are the real reasons we fought, the real reasons we were under pressure, the real reasons the necessity of winning haunted us, or the losses we'd sustained weighed on us.

No. I thought the child was a blatant attempt of to manipulate gamers emotionally and I am the type of person who will rebel against something if it is forced on me or if I feel like I'm being pushed toward 'it' ( my whole entire attitude to Liara is based on the fact that I felt she was shoved on me in ME1, ME2 and ME3 ).

I also have very strong opinions on Children and the roles they play in games. The only way it could have been worse is if the child was a squadmate and then ME3 would be no better than all those cheesy jrpg's.

I understand why Bioware went with the 'child' and I get what they were trying to accomplish but I think they ultimately failed. It felt like they were trying too hard to pull on the heart strings where something more subtle could have worked better.

Oh man that would have been so damn sad, I would have been pissed at the slow mo because I would have wanted to get to him faster :c

Sad in a great, artistic even, way.

At the start when the shuttle gets blown up? That moved me, It worked to show that this is war, people are dying and you won't save them all.

The dream sequences after were lame and unnecessary. He overstayed his welcome, by that point I just didn't care.

The entire thing was just... narm. The dream sequences were so awkward and out of place it's part of why I believe the indoctrination theory so much.

I wonder what lead the dev team to believe that the overstatement of the kid was a good idea. Again, I get the emotional thing, but after the first dream It could have easily been changed by a fallen comrade and really get you tearing up.

I liked the sequences. They gave Shepard more of a human quality, and they were artsy as f**k. The kid was alright til, of course, he ended up being the catalyst. Then it was like "... huh?"

I liked it, but jogging in slow motion is really annoying.
