Hasn't Shepard, being the war hero that he is, seen way WORSE things? Hell even squadmates die for the Reaper cause?

I know you meant generally, not in regard to pre-service history, but since you said "War Hero" it got me thinking about that.

Colonist Shepard was kidnapped by Batarian slavers, where hundreds of people including children were kept in cages and all sorts of other atrocities.

Ruthless Shepard butchered hundreds of Batarians, and if you pick this background, you're given dialog options that strongly imply that this Shepard is a psychopath who enjoys killing.

ME2 Shepard saw colonists from Horizon get liquified while still alive, screaming in horrible pain.

The idea that one little boy getting laser beamed would bother Shepard for more than a minute or two is a little out of character for many characters.

No no, I meant exactly that. My Shepard saw all his unit ALL of it killed on Akuze, and thankfully he could save Toombs from killing a Cerberus scientist and becoming a monster. I would think, that having a whole unit of 50 people wiped out by a Thresher Maw is something that stays there, more than one random kid dying along with many other innocent people (who Shep doesn't seem to give a **** about, ONLY the kid).

Yes.  slight annoyance

not a bad initial scene although a bit contrived and kid is too girly.  The dreams are too slow going.  Shephard's facial expression at his death is also too girly.  I was actually more moved by the fiery embers of Alliance ships falling to Earth as Shephard leaves

It would have been better if it was the ghost of one Shepard's dead friends than some random kid with an annoying voice.

At the begining the kid dying got to me emotionally. Pretty much after the first dream I just wanted to actually get to the kid to get out of the dream but the only thing that made me linger there were the whispers of the crew Shep had lost. When he showed up at the end all i could think of was wanting to shoot him to be honest....which i did ^_^; But the things that got to me the most were the scenes where Thane and Mordin died among others.

I wish we had more options, like being able to completely take out the dreams. At first I was ok with the kid, I understood why Bioware put him in the game, but after the first dream sequence I was already annoyed and I knew this wasn't going to be the only one, and already hated it (Somehow got lost on the first one because I had no idea what to do and was lost for a couple of minutes). Or at least let us pick what is in the dreams, like just walk around for a minute with the shadows and whispers and then wake up. Oh and definitely remove the dream after the LI scene, it just ruins the mood of the entire scene.

/Sorry for the long rant

Nah, I found the dream sequences tacky. An obvious and shameless attempt to tug heartstrings, which it failed to do miserably.

I liked the idea, untill the end that is... I think a lot of people here are just plain angry...this forum is getting too hostile...the kid untill the end represents Sheppards regrets, he's losing friends and he knows hes gonna lose more and may be the war....the kid represents his doubts.I thought it was emotionally effective. That is untill the end.People here will critizise anything just for the sake of it-

We are not complaining about what it represents, we're complaining about the kid being -there-. The same message could have been come across using squadmates, who you actually CARED about in the dream sequences.
The kid felt forced, and hence, you don't grow any attatchment for him.

I'd appreciate if you would not start assuming things about people and actually read their posts, they have very good arguments against the kid other than rage towards the ending (which is completely justified precisely because of the kid).

Well Im not talking about the people who used their logic to make a comment I'm talking about the ones who didn't and just trashed him because it represents the bad ending....

That's the thing though, it does represent the bad ending. It boild down to "You're gonna burn in the end". It feels like "They're all gonna burn", like there's no victory ahead. Granted if the endings are completely canon, and not dreams/hallucination. Then hell, they got it damn right, there was no victory.

When I played the Demo and saw the kid on earth, it did have an impact, mainly to showcase the loss and so on...

Once playing the game and the fact they KEPT hammering the stupid child all over in dreams, then it just became pointless and was not as important...

Once i got to the ending... I just wanted an option to shoot the lil... aghhhh

+1

And the whole slow mo running when I just wanted to get the dream sequence over. I know it was supposed to reflect the quality of the dream, etc. but *shakes fist*

The two aren't mutually exclusive. We know almost nothing about Shepard's childhood.

What got me with the leaving Earth sequence was Anderson staying behind, not the kid getting blasted. And with the dreams it was the voices of my fallen comrades. Though burning kid was kind of creepy....
Regardless the kid feels tacked on. They totally Call of Duty'ed him in for "shock value"

The very first time i watched the shuttle explode i had an emotional reaction. Every other time i watched the scene it didn't affect me, nor did the dreams.

I got lost too... Luckily Ashley (my Virmire victim) threw a couple of lines for me and it was sort of entertaining, if touchy.

The whole Kid thing just made me think that My Shepard wanted to settle down and raise a family, but The War with the Reapers had him stressed out and his past coming back to haunt him made him think that the possiblity would be impossible (thus the flames).

But that was my take on the kid.

Thats actually a really good way to look at it.

And I got a great Back Up to that Theory too.
Shamed it was cut, It would have made a bigger impact on me if it was in the game.

I thought it was a unique element that reflected Shepard's thoughts and kept you focused on retaking Earth (because that's the slogan that the entire game was marketed on anyways). It is too bad they included his death in the demo, because it isn't nearly as impacting when you actually start to play the game.

It kinda killed the effect when he started telling me what to do at the Citadel hub, but until then I thought it was a good addition.

No, I thought it was a really cheap plot device that I was willing to overlook... Right up to the point where I realised it was used as a catalyst for those really bad endings.

That's when I lost all suspension of disbelief. Now all I can do is deconstruct the story.

Well, unique in the series. By no means unique in all video games.

Don't worry I think... I think everyone did shoot him, if only "to see what happens"

I think it wasn't cut, but only available to those who didn't romanced anyone throughout the 3 games.

:) haha I know he wasn't 'real' but it would have been worth having some reaction from him for it ...so I chose the destroy option.

I think he talks about a squadmate, like the Virmire victim.

I liked the part of the dreams where you heard Mordin and Legion's voices echoing at you, but everything involving the kid itself was annoying.

I was glad that the dreams can bring up a conversation about Kaidan. I did not like losing a fellow Sentinel. Plus, I thought he was a cool guy.
