I too thought the kid was pointless and annoying. It was somewhat sad when I first saw him get on the shuttle and then the shuttle's destruction at the hands of the Reaper, but all the dream sequences past that really didn't seem to fit. I get that the idea was that the kid would personify all the people on Earth Shepard couldn't save and that Shepard's really stressed, etc. But none of it really worked or seemed to fit for me and what I thought Shepard would be thinking/feeling, especially after the other things (s)he's seen.

What I did enjoy though were the squadmate voices during the dreams. Thane's "you're the first friend I've made in years" was a nice touch, as were Mordin's and Legion's voices as mentioned above. I think maybe having the very first dream be about the kid and then the subject changing to other squadmates that we'd lost would have been better. But the constant use of the kid was more aggravating than anything else.

I thought it was ham-fisted at best. I've never liked narratives which used children in order to try to force you to feel sympathy. It never works with me, I don't have kids of my own and I've never liked children in general anyways. The only thing I liked about the dream sequences was hearing the voices of dead former squadmates whispering in the background, those were the characters I cared about, not some nameless kid.

I liked the kid honestly, not so much in itself but as a symbol for all those who Shep is unable to save, despite her best efforts. The dream sequences were well done too IMO and allowed to feel some of the psychologial burden Shep is carrying.

This.

Character development is nice but I'd rather do it through dialogue options and not forced dream sequences.  They were fine but I think there was a simplier way around this.

Although they wanted to build the kid to be the big reveal at the end, so I guess...

What's with the hate towards children? Lest we forget we were all there once. Haven't any of you read The Idiot?

I really really like this idea, if you don't mind I will describe it on the official "suggestions" thread. It preserves the integrity of the kid, but it offers the possibility that the next dreams have your friends in them instead of the kid, and thus making the whole dream scene flow better.

They were kind of irritating as they took you out of the flow of things, but I understood the purpose.

They got progressively more intense and disturbing (additional dead people whispering). It gives a sense how its weighing on Shepard.

Also the last one showing him burning with the kid is foreshadowing his death (as everyone present in the dreams is dead). It prepares you for the worst.

The kid: just minor annoyance until the ending.
The dreams: Alright in concept. I liked the voices of your departed comrades.

The problem was that the dreams didn't really develop the character any more than if they just show Shep waking up. The conversations you can have with crew mates about the dream would still work beause you would fill in the blanks (make up the dreams). Either that or they could have explained the kid in the dream a bit better.

I was glad that the dreams can bring up a conversation about Kaidan. I did not like losing a fellow Sentinel. Plus, I thought he was a cool guy.

Yeah I agree, I thought that was a great scene in the game.

Those dream sequences were the first thing that felt out of place.

It felt extremely forced. Not to mention this could have been avoided if BioWare let the kid go with you like what 99 percent of real kids would do if in danger.

I think they were trying to show how Shepard was really struggling with the impact of everything he/she had done and how the odds were still completely staggered against them all. It pointed out his/her sense of hopelessness and regret. But honestly I think it was much better illustrated in Shepard's dialogue. Not just the scripted verbiage but also how the Shepard voice actors nailed it down with their performances.

Thought the dreams would have worked better if it was the Virmire casualty, changing to Mordin, Legion, etc as the died throughout the game. Each time Shepard chasing the latest dead friend until they reach the group of his dead, then watching the whole group burn. If they really wanted to hammer the kid home, they could have had him in the group, but honestly, it was a little pointless.

I liked the part of the dreams where you heard Mordin and Legion's voices echoing at you, but everything involving the kid itself was annoying.

The kid fell flat with me, and that was before, well, you know.

I really didn't need anything to connect me to what I was fighting for. There was already plenty without having to resort to those dreams.

I liked the dream sequences. I can't stand the Starchild though. I liked the idea of Shepard being plagued by that child's death. I think Shepard was shook up about the kid because it's one thing when someone dies heroically like Thane or sacrifices themselves to save their people like Legion but it's different when an innocent child dies. I think it also affected Shepard because she saw the kid in the air duct and was so close to saving him but couldn't.

Eh, I kinda liked the dreams. The one where another Shepard catches the kid, smiles at real Shepard and then burns was freaky. But I mostly liked them because whenever I heard the Reaper/Inception horn blast I would go, "Harbinger... Harbinger... HARBINGER! Whoo!"
