I hit this before and got stuck in it. I reloaded  only to fail here .. well, i lost count how many times.

I thought maybe I just wasn't tough enough to pull this one off and needed to gain a level or two. So I did the mage tower. Now I'm 9th (a hair away from 10th) and it popped up again.

I can't change followers without re-loading from a previous save (not that far back, but it's admitting defeat again).

My basic tactic is to hide behind the bushes as much as I can. The mage first casts earthquake to keep the archers busy. But the area of effect isn't good enough and I can only get about 1/3 or them.
Next, the spellcasters spell and the fighter-types arch.

two or 3 shade type creatures appear on the right and try to close for mele, but I'm protected by the fence, so I continue to focus on the archers.

I guess I'm looking for strategy tips on how to win this. I've got flaming weapons and rock armor up. And hiding behind the bush helps, but not that much.

I usually get 2 of the shade things dropped and about 3/4 of the archers before I loose it.

Anyway, just fishing for ideas.

Edit: the "shade" things are shrieks, by the way

strike that.

10 minutes after I posted my frustration, I got through it.

Cost me every potion I had just bought from the tower, but I got through.

Shesh. Silly.

If you have Blizzard, drop that on them too. Blizzard can make very short work of archers, either freezing them in place for a time or killing them with all the DOT damage. It's become my go to spell for dealing with ranged enemies like archers.

I sort of remember that specific fight, but not clearly enough to remember how I did it any of the times I was there. If you have any spells or archery abilities that can stun the Shrieks, that will help as well. Crushing Prison is always fun, but at your level, it depends on where you've spent your points in spells and abilities.

After looking at the jpeg. I would try to just do long range attacks on 1 at a time. Since they are preoccupied already. If you have 1 or 2 focus on you then maybe stun, freeze or shield. When they all start focusing in on you then do earthquake.

well, my earthquake-caster got dropped by the Shrieks, when i wasn't watching closely enough.

So she only got one earthquake off. Basically, the group went behind the barrier and engaged the Shrieks in hand-to-hand while the earthquake was up.

They managed to drop the Shrieks, then they stayed to the back and focused on the archers. The fence helped, the rocks helped. the distance helped. But it was till a grueling fight.

Morrigan rocks. with death magic up and an occasional drain life, her biggest problem was running out of magic power and having to either consume a potion or hide in the back until she got some back.

the other two just kept drinking potions and using archer skills.

The good news is that the battle gets easier once the archers start dropping, since you don't take as much damage each round anymore.

Eh.  I'll give this a shot.

Don't open this fight with any types of AoE just yet.  Best to pull your punches until you thin their numbers a little.  See the archers (blue circles) behind the fence?  Let them tank what they shoot.  If you start the fight by flinging earthquake, you're gaining the enemy's attention too soon and things go pearshaped quickly.

Your immediate concern is to deal with anything that turns and comes for you...likely the Shrieks.  I'm assuming somebody in your party has cc.  Have Alistair go sword and board to pick them up...cc a few to control the incoming damage to Alistair and the rest of your party focus fires each shriek down.   When you have the field thinned out, send Alistair in to the ranged...taunt, shield cover up.  You might want to use your cc so that they're clustered...as soon as Alistair has aggro, start melting or freezing them down.

You're running a double mage set, and that's a plenty powerful group to be honest.  You have plenty of tools to control the field and lots of dps.   However, that doesn't mean you should always run in and expect to obliterate everything.   Be patient.  Pick off them off quietly until they don't grossly outnumber you and then bury them.

In any fight with blues I never engage anything they are already fighting. I take whatever is free and then finish off whatever the blues couldn't kill. Tossing out any kind of aoe in those situations is just asking to be killed or at the very least to expend a lot of unnecessary potions.

just pick them off one at a time. you can work through at least half of their numbers by the time they finish off the guards behind the barrier. then you'll just have to charge them to finish up but it will only be like 4 or 5 of em remaining which is a totally manageable encounter.

the shrieks are the biggest x-factor. sometimes they'll break off early and attack your group while you're still ranging the archers. that can be trouble but usually your tank and just one other party member can finish them.

whatever you do don't open up with an attack that aggros the whole crowd. use the ambush situation to your advantage for crying out loud. its not your job to save those poor saps behind the fence. they're a useful distraction for you.
