Man--I used to play AD&D a ton when I was a teen (yeah--I was _that_ popular ).  But when it came to CRPGs, I just never cared about my character enough to finish 'em.  Still haven't got far in Oblivion, ME, FO3, etc.  Something about their stories never clicked for me.

But then I hit DA:O.  I'm hooked.  For whatever reason, this one just clicks.  And the idea that a predecessor exists that I never played (BG), I had to get it.  The graphics don't look too shabby, but I want to play a story that lasts and lasts .

Questions for those of you who glorify the ol' game:

1) Should I play through BG before I play BG2?
2) Do you recommend any specific mods to improve my gaming experience? (No cheats--just GUI mods, or mods that fix unintended bugs)
3) Starting class that you really liked?
4) Do you think BG2 is so much better than BG that playing through BG isn't needed?  Or are the characters in BG worth the extra 100+ hrs?
5) Guestimate the amount of time you think it took you to play through each game (this can be in months or years--hours are so hard to gauge).

The games are tough but fun. I'd play them in order though.
