It's my fault for expecting better, but between this and so many other threads I can't shake the thought that being labelled as a bunch of whiney entitled children was right all along. We can be right in the ending was crap but the way we're going about it and the hateful, paranoid, and ridiculous comments i keep reading just really soured my taste on this whole thing.

No.

There are too many of us who were rational and cool headed through most of this to accept that the majority of people involved were all whiney entitled children.

Some are, there's no changing that about this or any group of people.

The key is not allowing them to dictate the flow of the conversation.  Do not yourself give in to the thought that none of this was worth it.

May i suggest you give the $70k that was raised to BioWare instead?

Think of it as damages, as your underhanded tactics, such as "review bombing", have resulted in a poor metacritic score and several retailers offering full refunds.

Would it be unfair to speculate that some major Game producers, like maybe EA, donate a lot of big money to this charity and that EA have now threatened to withdraw their money?

Edit: Apparently this was due to peole asking money back when they realized this was a charity, not money to actually somehow finance a new ending. Makes me sad people should act like that. Still, might as well man up and apologize to EA for my hasty words.

but we really have to believe that people wanted their money back? sorry, but it's hard for me to think that someone that donated to a charity asks his/her money back after it....
I might doubt what the people from PA wrote there....mostly because of the intention of that particular line....

They keep pissing us (literally)...

I think the proper course of action is to believe what we are told on this matter and ask one simple question.

How much money did they want back?

Cause I'm pretty sure we would've been able to cover it.

I think the ReME3 was a noble cause, but in my opinion unless you are able to accurately gauge each participants motivations it doesn't matter if you donate to another charity or not. Individually go ahead, it's a wonderful thing to do. But if you are doing it under a collective banner (one that rightly or wrongly is tainted) then it's counterproductive. And if you want to donate to donate the why do you need the banner to do it?

I hope many of you donate to a worthy charity, just don't do it blindly.

The money was not rejected by Child's Play. The money went to them. The drive was given an 80k cap which it reached, so the drive ended.

Nope, it's good where it is now: going to sick kids.

Thanks for trolling, though?

I'm not sure why i'm posting this again, but you guys seem to miss the point here.
Child's Play felt that you were using their charity as a tool for the retake movement. Why? Because the retake movement's intentions and motivations did not coincide with the mission of Child's Play.

For your reference here is the mission of Child's Play:

Child's Play is dedicated to improving the lives of children in hospitals around the world through the kindness and generosity of the video game community and the power of play.

Their mission is to improve the lives of children in hospitals.

The retake movement's mission was to change the ending of ME3.

Do these missions coincide? NO.

Is this a problem? YES.

This is a problem because, by donating to CP, it is perceived AS A POLITICAL MANEUVER TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR YOUR MOVEMENT.

The only thing this is about, this discourse between Retake and CP, is Retakes perceived use of CP AS A TOOL.

That's their mission statement.  If you were around when they started the charity though, they frequently said in interviews that they created Child's Play to combat the negative stereotype associated with gamers.  This was also the intent of this section of the overall efforts of Retake.

Here's an idea.

Contact a homeless shelter/food drive in Edmington. Find out what the big organization is down there. make sure they have reasonable Administrative Costs. Contact an administrator and ask them if they will keep track of incoming in lieu donations for you.

If they will, put up a link on the Retake site. Ask people if they want to give, to give directly, but pu t in lieu of Retake or whatever.

And there you go.

Charities have always been reluctant to be seen supporting a cause different to their own. I'm not that surprised Retake's drive has been shut down. Oh well, at least we made a lot of money for kids.

Oh wait, did they reject the amount already raised or did they just shut down future donations in Retake's name?

Jesus OP what were you thinking with those tweets?

The first tweet was out of anger and betrayal.  The rest were my honest feelings about how they are losing touch with where they came from.

I apologize for my emotions in the editted OP.  I'm a human.  Sometimes, I feel things.  I try to own up to that.

Well, you seem like a nice guy, maybe you should do some a little work in your community for a day or two, it'd make you feel better.  I'm sure there's shelters where you live.  Those are tough things you said.

****And I really don't mean that in a mean or sarcastic sense.  trust me you'll feel better :)

I didn't want to be one of those guys...but if you're going to call me out: I served my country in the military for six years, volunteer at a crisis call center, and actually did create a charity called Kids of Iraq, which distributed 200 boxes of donated school supplied to kids throughout a war-torn country...with all volunteers.  We never collected one penny.

And unsurprisingly these fat, lonely losers have rode their moral high ground to the nth degree because they have no accomplishments outside of the internet and their uninspired comments. I disagree with the "retake movement" but damn if this isn't a magnitude 8 dick move.

All that matters in the end is that people did a good dead. Even if people donated for the wrong reason it’s better than not donating anything at all. I understand their point and it’s their charity even though I don’t find a 1st world problem debate polarizing enough to discontinue. It’s a victory for the kids and be happy that 80,000 dollars is going to buy a lot of smiles. A smile on their face beats out any game and it’s ending.

I'm not calling you out my man.  I said you seem like a nice guy.  You just seem to have a lot of pent up emotions, and doing stuff in the community always is a great release for me.

Guys. We did a great thing. If PA wants to be idiots and not accept the cause anymore because of this line of reasoning, (which they could pretty much use this for donation- again, I bring up the tax exempt example; people very rarely donate to charity without a cause), fine. Let them.

Do not ask for your money back because that's just petty. It makes it seem like all we *were* interested in was the publicity. It wasn't. It was a great cause, and you can keep donating to CP if you so desire.

I'm pretty sure that name calling is against the TOS. Your little movement has hurt BioWare financially. You should want to make that right.

Actinguy:  Thank you.

But on another note - lets not start attacking each other.  We're on the same side here - regardless of how we feel about the Childs Play situation - we all want the game to be better and we all want to help people.  Period.

It's blatantly obvious PA were pressured by either EA or Bioware to bury the charity. What a disgrace.

If the shoe fits...

I mean, just look at your sig. You're an obvious troll, asking people to give money to a company because they "hurt" the sales of a game they were disatisfied with?

It's not even a good troll. A good troll realizes he has to stay within the realm of believability. That someone would actually hold to your stated opinion isn't within that realm.

Just a helpful tip for your future trolling endeavors.

At least we can still give money on our own initiative...but that line about "using the charity as a shield." Wow, ignorance.

As someone that has familiarised himself with the rules and regulatiions, i can quite honestly tell you that your reporting me was a wasted effort... and it further shows how petty and underhanded the Retake movement is.
