Wow. PA uses CP to fight negative gamer stereotypes. PA rejects gamer donations intended to fight negative gamer stereotype (specifically: "entitled whiner"). That's Starchild logic right there. Seems to me it's okay for them to use it to fight negative gamer stereotypes but not for others. How noble.

On this stance I do agree with them. The donations were never meant to be a shield, but many outside viewers of the situation were beginning to call it such. There's nothing that could have been to convince them otherwise, and I'm a bit saddened by that, but it is what it is.

Please, let's not turn it into something it's not. So Child's Play is off the table. I can understand that and respect their decision. The point of the matter is that money was definitely raised and the children will ultimately benefit from it. Regardless of whether it can continue with the Retake movement, that is a monumental achievement that I think we can all be proud of.

The kids benefiting from this charity couldn't care less about the motivations of the donors.

Another charity run by idiots.

Hypocrite, like he didn't use that charity to drum up attention for Penny Arcade.

I hate to tell you this, but we need to just let it go.  As of now, the reception we got is overall positive.  We've said our peace, and it's over now.  Pushing will just destroy the progress this made for us.

You can still donate. You just can't do it with the RetakeME banner. If the donations were about the children, you'll continue to donate. If the donations were about the cause (RetakeME) maybe you won't continue to donate.

So he is refusing money for a charity because he doesn't agree with us? WTF

In fairness, he's saying he's refusing the money for a charity from anyone that's attached to a cause (other than just giving sick kids toys), regardless of whether he agrees with us.  Of course, he has previously stated on his website that he does, in fact, disagree with us.

But didn't that charity start as a cause?

I'm just saying what the point in saying no to free money?

I have to agree though. It took a video game ending to get people to donate.

Tell that to the kids.

I think I would respect their decision more if Gabe and company had not so gleefully used their own platform to spit at us. We already know they're not 'neutral' here.

I suppose I found reason here to never visit their site again, since they find their platform of calling people whiners while being uninformed to be more important than actually giving games to sick chicldren. GG, Gabe. Very... admirable.

Can I be honest about something...

OP... You were very rude against him. Yes they did stop collecting donations, and that might or might not be wrong, but OP. That doesn't mean contact them on twitter and be rude. ( and chances are if you were tactful to start with then most likely they would not have had a rude reply. )

I support the donations, and I was upset over it closing down, but being rude and calling out people does not help the cause. It hurts the cause.

It doesn't matter what they did, do, or might have done. Keep civil, keep tactful and maybe we will be taken serious.

It'd be brutal.

Sorry I think as a card. It's done. I'm sorry Penny Arcade is so partisan but it IS their charity.

too bad though

I'm still confused did they give the money back? If not does it really matter that he ended it. He can't throw away the fact that money was donated to that charity via the reaction to the ending of this game.

I agree. The push raised around $80k and that's nothing to sneeze at. Nothing good will come of forcing an issue here.
