I have the Warden Commander set and I have 2 questions about it.
1. I have heard or read that if you sell it you can buy it back (full price of course) but it's been levelled. Mine is only Steel and I'd like to get it in dragonbone. Who do I sell it to that I can buy it back from re-levelled?
When I wear the full set of warden commander armor, it doesn't show the "set bonus" in the character stat window like other sets do. Has anyone else had this issue? Do you actually get the set bonus and they just didn't set the flag for the icon?

I don't know the answer to the 2nd question, but the first one I can. Once you finish the quest and go back to the Keep, there will be a storage chest. Put the armor in there, and come back around level 20, it will be dragonbone.

Actually you can sell it to anyone. You can also place the set in your party stash, and come back to it later to claim the upgraded version.
I've noticed several times where I sell off junk weapons/armor on multiple vendors only to come back to higher tier gear in the inventory. If you check the sell back items you'll find they did belong to you, but the material is better. The blacksmith at Warden's Keep will add sockets to basic weapons. A few items with bonuses like the Crow Dagger can become Dragonbone, and gain 3 sockets from that same smith.

As for your second question, I've noticed that if I mess with armors on my party members while in camp, the bonuses don't show up, but if I take them out with me while I'm wandering the world, I can just unequip and reequip one piece of the set to make the bonus show up.

I'll try that, bamboo fox. Ahhh my storage bin, eh? Okay. Will give that a go. I like the armor and don't want to ditch it. I got it at like level 8 and now I'm level 14 or 15 and would love to see it upgrade. I suppose though...I am heading to a certain place where a certain juggernaut is available. But I like the *look* of the warden commander armor. I'm a vain, noble princess, you know?

I've heard the chest only works on consoles. Not 100% sure on that, though I've had no luck on the PC.

It works with pretty much any vendor it's just kind of annoying and time consuming basically anything in a vendors inventory that can come in different materials will cycle through those materials randomly the easiest and quickest way I have found so far to make it cycle is to use F5 to quick-save then F9 to load the last quick-save.
Basically :
1 - sell item you want to improve to the merchant
2 - exit merchant and hit F5 to quick-save
3 - hit F9 to load last save and check merchant to see if your item has improved if so buy it back. If not continue reloading and checking.
* just to note its random usually 3 or 4 items change per reload getting better or worse if you can find a vendor with fewer items it might be easier not sure tho. Also I doesn't mess up the process at all if you by some other item you see and save it then continue reloading.
It's nice if you want to have a uniform set of armor without the weird colors it can just take a really long time and the item's of course increase in cost with the improvement's. I'm not sure if this works on the console's but it probably will you don't have to use quick-save & load it is just simpler in my view.

Is this considered more of an exploit for min/maxers? I kinda like to play my game and live with the choices and gear I make / find.

It's sort of considered an exploit. You're not cheating exactly, in my eyes, because there's no cheat code you need to enter. But I do not believe that this was intended to be used this way by the developers. You still need to pay for the armor. It's a personal choice I guess.

This happens to me aswell. Sometimes, I don't get the set bonus of the armor. I've yet to figure out what causes this. D:PatT2 wrote...

All you have to do is sell the item, Exit the buy screen. Then talk to the vendor again and rebuy the set. Then it will be upgraded to the highest tier available.

But if you find a unique set and just love the look you can make it better. I for one think the warden armor is awesome and i think i will upgrade it for my mage (a shape shifter but i think i can get away with one point in arcane warrior for the better armor/weapons)

My favorite vendor is Mikhail at the keep, he carries high tier equipment from a fairly early level (other vendors factors your level into the upgrade (at least on my game)). Sell in example the Warden Commander's set to Mikhail, close the UI and they open it again and purchase it back. Not all items are upgradable though. Quick-save before trying to upgrade things and reload if it didn't work. (Note: I think if you are of Dwarven Origins, you can use Gorim at Denerim Market for a proper discount (in terms of getting more when you sell the item, and it costing less when you buy it back).)
The Party Storage Chest trick seems to only work on consoles. Me and some other PC users report it not working while some XBOX360 users are stating it works for them. Basically you place the item you want to randomize (it won't just be the highest tier) in the chest, then zone out into say your party camp, and re-enter the map, check the chest and see if it's the tier you want--if it is take it out, if not, repeat the zoning.
If you wonder what a item set bonus is (it won't list numbers), examine the item and it will tell you that in example Warden Commander's set gives a item set bonus of health boost and spells/abilities costing less to activate (or some would call it Fatigue -10%).

thanks i really needed to know the party chest trick of course i already spent a lot on the vendor upgrading but now i know
edit- and just off the top of my head it could be an easy way to make some cash by putting low level gear in and takeing it back out from the party chest later

I just wish you could paint your helmet to make it match the color of your armor. The really cool helmets are usually horrid looking and not upgradeable. The proving helmet is Iron (yuck), Rock Knocker is always red steel (disgusting looking), and the Helm of Honnleah looks like a rusty piece of junk.
