And I honestly don't believe them. I do not believe Penny Arcade is telling the truth; they are likely taking a couple of cases widely out of context.

It doesn't matter.  It's their charity.  Sure, I'm disappointed, too.  I was hoping we could have a "Thank you, BioWare drive" if and when we get ending DLC.  But their reasons are sound, in my opinion, and I will take them at their word.

I don't regret giving for a moment.  It's going to a good cause.

Well Child's Play as a charity doesn't give great instructions on how to set up online drives. The person who started this did what they listed, and tbh first time I looked at it I thought it was a scam for sure.

So the fact that a lot of people were confused about what the money was going to doesn't surprise me. if I remember right it was setup so that the clicky you hit says holdtheline or changemeending or something like that; even though it's a direct donation.

Still was a nice thing for people to do though.

This charity was for the KIDS not the ending.

We did good.

Why "was"? The kids are still here. The banner for RetakeME3 is not. Continue to help the kids, donate directly!

I plan on it as i already was. The RetakeM3 banner was a nice way to gather people and steer them towards something good (giving copious amounts of money to sick children)

Edit: note : i had nothing to do with setting up/ running the original charity, In my eyes those people are angels. I am merely relaying what was said/ what i took while spending time on the thread.

Hi person who can't read, please take this someplace else.

Sometimes, reading hurts. Quietness my dear, this was one of that times.

I cannot possibly believe. Demanding refunding for a... wait better stop now.

Really people?  I'm ashamed as a human being.

Lol im a gentleman but thank you xP. And yes it was very painful to read that , ive seen the results of what lots of chargebacks do on non-profit, and its not pretty.

Dear sir :P

Again folks, this is one of the things we must avoid at all costs in the future. iIF in the future we seek another foundation to donate, it must be CLEAR AS CRYSTALLINE WATER FROM THE GLACIERS OF GREENLAND THAT WE ARE NOT DOING THIS TO CHANGE THE ENDING BUT FOR HELPING CHILDREN FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is sad.

You should probably link the source in the op, as it seems like it's your own words, at first. Will alleviate some confusion.

That said, it's good to know. And regardless of the reason, it's over now, and it was a good thing,

Honestly, I really thought it was a good idea because it helped channel a lot of negativity into something that was actually good and helped combat the ienvitable stigma that the retakemasseffect movement were just whinny and entitled.
It was a good idea with noble goals......but this is why we can't have nice things.

Tycho actually supports us. They don't want Child's Play associated with movements in general.

Whether Tycho supports Retake or not, it's contentious, and he felt Child's Play was being used as a 'shield' by people in RetakeME3.

"Child’s Play cannot be a tool to draw attention to a cause. Child’s Play must be the Cause."

Tycho worded it very diplomatically, so there's that. When laid out, it's easy to understand. While I'm kind of embarrassed to be vaguely associated to people who can't read and think Child's Play = Bioware, I'm glad we now know exactly what happened.

Too bad they didn't issue a statement like this ahead of time, to prevent some knee-jerk reactions and ugliness. Regardless, we raised 80k in 9 days, that's no small feat people. Whether we get those endings or not, we made a difference in some kids lives. That's the most important thing here.

No, that's legit. From that same post you quoted:

"Child’s Play cannot be a tool to draw attention to a cause.  Child’s Play must be the Cause."

there was talk about taking the retake portion out , but it was decided to finish it out. It was always about the charity, had there not been the chargeback issues i know it could have been worked out.

They've now taken the stance that they won't take group donations associated with causes like RetakeME3, for all the reasons Tycho stated in the post. That's their prerogative. It seems fair to characterize that as not wanting to be associated with a movement.

I wish mods would just shut the forums down for a few hours before the rage bursts from the seams. Let people cool down and make rational decisions. I can understand why some people are angry with Penny Arcade from their home page statement about the movement using them as tools. But they need to simmer down and take a nap.

They're not BioWare.  They don't have a giant staff to handle all the attention and logistics.  Retake is big and it's scary, even to its supporters.  I think we can give them a break.

It makes me sad to think that there are people who are stupid enough to think that they could somehow pay for a new ending or would ask money back from such a wonderful charity if this is correct. Apparently things needs to be more carefully worded if we chose a different charity.

While one could argue (and some have) that Child's Play was started for similar reasons (in response to those such as Jack Thompson's claims that gamers are nothing more than violent dregs and to bring legitimacy to the demographic as a whole,) one must also acknowledge that the motives of the charity have changed in the years that it has existed and, regardless of its initial motives, it is currently much more sincere than "we aren't bad because we give money."

If you're going to get mad at someone over this, get mad at the inevitable waves of journalists painting this in a light skewed to antagonize the fans. Do not get mad at Child's Play. They let the drive go on for a lot longer than they had to, and its existence really did put them in a weird position.

Elegantly said.
