I guess to keep the game true to what BioWare intended, I would like to see more explanation. I don't like feeling like I 'just didn't get it' when I get to the ending of a game. I don't know what BioWare was going for- did nearly everyone get destroyed when the relays blew up? Why was the Normandy suddenly abandoning the war with my LI (GARRUS!!!) inside? What was the point of the crash-landed planet? The kid and gramps at the end? Where were they? And I'm still partial to the ‘indoctrination theory’ which I think is absolutely brilliant- if it were true. Also, the little ‘breath scene’? Doesn’t make much sense with things the way they are now- makes perfect sense with I.T..

Of course, there’s a part of me that would love to see Shepard sitting someplace warm and tropical raising baby krogans with Garrus…(Or sharing a drink in the afterlife!)

........But, I understand that was not the ‘intent’ of the ending.

TL;DR More info please!

It depends. If the re-write is as lame as this ending...lol. Don't bother. If they can come up with an awesome new concept, give me that. I guess I'm neutral, and it just depends on what they do with it. For the record, though, I LOVE the indoc theory.

The sad thing I see in this thread is the majority (in this thread) prefer a full rewrite over an explanation of what comes next.

As much as I am proud by the Retakers, a rewrite isn't going to happen anywhere but in your own mind and fan fictions.

A rewrite to the ending would mean pulling every actor in the final set of scenes (starting with Cerberus Base at worse, Earth at best) doing new lines, filming (creating) new scene and changing every aspect of the endings.

This is something that even Hollywood can't put together after a release date. Heck, Bioware couldn't even afford to get the voice actors of Joker, Garrus and Tali back for Lair of the Shadow Broker. Or even get Joker back for Arrival.

As nice as a complete rewrite would be, it's not going to happen.

With 3.5 million copy's sold they can afford a rewrite.

This ending kills any future Mass Effect games in the world we fought to save.  Relays being destroyed.. i mean wtf.  I expected to die at the end but this ending is ten-times worse.  They killed the world we wanted to see grow in to other games.  The indoctrinated theory is the best I have seen to cya this ending.  So what if the community came up with it.  I say run with it and rewrite the ending.

I don't think it's a matter of profits (or art integrity for that matter).

I don't think I could be satisfied with the results of ME3, regardless of how well it is explained, no matter how much "oh, btw, this happened because of this" is thrown around. None of the outcomes do anything for me.

What would you prefer?

If there's already a thread on this and you can find it, can you link it? This place moves fast.

The biggest problems with the ending is more or less two. 1. Plot-holes and confusing events. 2. No player choice to affect outcome in wildly different ways.

So you need: explanations, patched plot holes and new endings added that reflects your choices and what you have managed to achieve.

Personally, I just want it to make sense.

I think an explanation would be nice. But I'm not sure that will do the trick.

I think the Indoctrination theory basically BECOMES a re-write, and also doesn't invalidate the entire ending. The only plot holes the Indoctrination theory doesn't address are those involving moving the Citadel, and with a little explanation that, at least to me, would be permissible.

As much as I want to see Bioware stand in front of tens of thousands of angry fans with torches trying to explain that ending, rewrite is better.

A complete rewrite.
But, if Bioware can make this work, then that's cool I guess.

I do not think you read what I was quoteing.  The person was saying they couldnt afford it.  I was pointing out they could and should rewrite it.

I don't think an explanation would help. What's needed is a complete re-write from the start of Priority: Earth onwards. Just get rid of the Godkid and try and come up with a better motivation for the Reapers. And give us plenty of moments of awesome when the war assets actually turn up to fight.

Indeed!  Brent Knowles phrased it all well.

rewrite/indoctrination theory. Explaining a pile of garbage doesn't make it any less a pile of garbage.

Rewrite. I don't think that any amount of explanation can justify the bs that has happened in the last part of the game. It's just not possible to explain it.

What I'd really want to see? A total rewrite of the final earth missions, running something like the flow chart that has been posted. Something that actually takes into account our choices during the game. This is highly unrealistic though, so I'd be happy with them reworking the most glaring plotholes and continuity problems.

What would I want?

First of all a sit in with the writers where we brainstorm over the plot-holes and how the idea of the ridiculous ending came into their minds. After that we go through various media and analyze plots of different science-fiction and fantasy stories

Then how we could solve those problems together (in MANY cases, it would only require to rewrite a bunch of codex entries and dialogue-lines) by introducing the dark matter phenomenon at the Far Rim.

Then we scrap the Star Child forever and bury it somewhere in a parallel-universe and formulate a treaty that if the idea of it ever surfaces again - the one who has it gets lobotomized or something like that.

Then we hire the voice actors, programmers and artists again and do the overhaul, as well as add the Haestrom-Plot and a decent (Happy) End.

Possible appendix: Finally we see a starship of unknown origin arriving at the Mass Relais in dark space, where some sort of Reaper-Beacon was left behind. And we here a unintelligible language with subtitles saying: "They stopped reporting in. We should prepare the alternative plan..."

Rewrite. If not add more options at catalyst. One that doesn't destroy mass relays (and galactic civilization with them). More scenes with war assets making difference. Don't force us to kill the geth/EDI!
