That's not what I meant. They said Paypal told them a substantial amount of people asked for refunds. That means nothing, he could be telling the truth, he could be exagerating.

I'm pretty sure the co-founder of Child's Play wouldn't exagerate about this. This is pretty serious.

There are no numbers. That's all I'm saying.

This thread should be locked anyway.

All of this makes me sick.

This Child's play Charity slapped you guys across the face, damn right you should take that back.
IMO it was a stupid cause anyway.

I literally cannot process your post in the non troll detecting part of my brain.

That's how I felt about the ending, I tried to give other people the same experience.
I think it worked, but yeah I don't give to charity.

You shouldn't let a small minority try to sour you. People here are trying to be reasonable, most are in fact, just bare with us as we try to sort out the jackasses.

We’ve also been contacted by PayPal due to a high number of people asking for their donations back. This is in addition to readers who simply couldn’t understand how this was connected to Child’s Play’s mission. We were dealing with a lot of very confused people, more every day, and that told us we had a problem.

That, does not sound like a minority.

It's time to face the truth.

The term "high" != majority. Aside from being more than what they are normally used to dealing with, it doesn't tell us anything in regards to magnitude. Trying to insinuate anything concrete regarding that statement about the number of people that actually applied to is silly.

Maybe it was the insult of being rejected by the charity because they didn't want to be associated with the movement due to a few bad apples?

Yeah... not sure how they didn't read somewhere in the process that it was a charity drive.

Seriously, you get to the landing page, it explains the whole thing. You click on the tracker gizmo, it says chip in for Child's Play. You log into PayPal and authorize a donation to the Child's Play charity fund. Then you finalize everything and go to the reception page where people are leaving comments about how cool it is for sick kids to play video games while they are being treated.

If I made that kind of mistake unintentionally, I think I would just cut my losses out of embarrassment. LET ALONE writing the charity up and saying, "Hey, I have no awareness of what I'm doing, I just punch my credit card number into open field boxes all over the internet. AND I'm a douche bag. So give me my money back."

+10 for humor buddy

No, but the term high means more than a few. If they had to say it that way, it had to have been pretty substantial.

I'm somewhat confused on this. So are you guys 100% sure that people asking for their money back, were asking for a refund because they didn't understand it was for charity and thought it was going towards a new ending?

Because that is how people are painting this. It makes more sense to me that, some people are asking for a refund after Penny Arcade (who found the charity) were making fun of those donating. So wouldn't it be more plausible that those asking for a refund are only doing so, because they feel demoralized to be donating to a charity where the founders of it are giving them a hard time for donating?

Not that I'm agreeing with anyone asking for their money back. Regardless of what you think about Penny Arcade, the money was going to go towards a good cause.

This totally reminds me of that guy in ME1 to 3 who's trying to get his 15 credits back for his toaster oven. I don't think a majority of people would demand their $10 or $20 back, it sounds demented.

It's also possible that some of this tension is from the recent leak from their forums, where a BioWare writer posts.

I don't agree. PA actually posted about this.

They don't agree with the movement, but I doubt that they outright made fun of it.

Substantial also is a rather vague term. We can probably all agree that the terminology would infer a larger than normal number of issues CP is used to. As to estimates beyond that, and what "substantial" may mean in this case (if you're not used to dealing with it on more than a case by case basis, perhaps merely double digits would suffice? perhaps dozens? could it be hundreds? who knows?)

Either way, attempts to get money back or think that it was paying for a new ME3 ending does not appear to be reflective of the way that the majority of the Retake movement has regarded the issue on BSN, Facebook, or anywhere else. We had one dude get in an angry twitter convo with them over it, but more out of confusion over the reasoning for closing the chipin than anything else and didn't ask for his money back.

I don't know if its real but if there are people wanting refunds then shame on them. They're a disgrace to mankind.
Screw endings, bioware and etc.
You asked for refund from a charity... that helps sick kids... think about it for a second
I hope those "high" numbers are only 5-10 dumbasses.

Very true.

This is a case of a small amount of negativity attempting to destroy something that was largely positive. It’s a perfect case of paint everyone with the negativity brush because maybe a few people made a bad choice. There’s no numbers, any evidence provided, or who was actually behind it. The good news 80,000 dollars was raised for the charity. Stop overreacting on a situation in which nothing more than a blanket statement with zero clarity was provided.  You really think that many people actually asked for their money back.  In a case where thousands of people donated 50 could be considered high if it's well above normal.

I'll repeat something I tweeted with regards to this.

#retakemasseffect Raising $70,000 for a good cause is admirable. But hiding behind charity to legitimise a personal grievance is wrong.

Seems I was bang on the money.

I am getting seriously, seriously hacked off with all the whole retake movement.

I'm getting hacked off with people banging on about it being civil, when 95% of the people complaining have tunnel vision, and won't listen to what others have to say.

I'm getting hacked off that people are picking apart everything that comes to light from bioware or other sources.

I'm getting hacked off that this is ALL that the forums seem to be about.

And now this. People wanting charity donations back....... you make me sick, you selfish, entitled ****s.

Now for the 5% that have been civil, fair play. But you are the minority.

I guess I'm out of the loop, so I'll just keep quiet. I clearly don't understand the big picture here. I just remember that Penny Arcade was poking fun of peopel donating earlier last week. So I figured that is why people were asking for refunds.

But if you guys say people were asking for refunds because they thought the money was going towards a new ending (and there is proof of this)...

Then wow. That's really sad.
