I only finished the game as Vanguard (charged Leng and his mooks) and Infiltrator (lol I am invisible).

But I think this strategy would work for other classes:
Run away until he blows the hole in the floor. Then camp in there, and pick off all the troops he calls in. Repeat this until only the main ****er is standing. Then do what you do best :D

Key is to hug cover (after he blows up the floor obviously, which should happen right after the fight starts and you knock him away) then pick off his mooks so they don't overwhelm you. I was a Caster Sentinel with max durability upgrades (Fitness and Tech Armor) so I was a pretty tough nut to crack, and it let me hang out of cover a bit longer with the Viper to clean house.

Ultimately your strategy depends on which class you use. Personally I would unlock the bonus powers on HC first to help you through Insanity, there are very helpful ones there like ED and Stasis.

You're doing the right thing. AFAIK this fight is highly scripted, killing his goons should be your priority. I fought him playing Adept but he's completely immune to all (biotic) powers, they, however, do inflict minor damage to his shield and can cause staggers - which is useful to get into another position. With Soldier I'd suggest to spam Concussive Shot or Carnage against him when you're done killing his backup. Use the destroyed floor as cover and try to stay mobile.

Would be nice to know which other squadmember you are using, I used Javik for his Lift Grenades, extremely useful for the packs of enemies that spawns, Phantoms were the only real problem if I didn't kill them fast enough.

Delegate. As soon as he's vulnerable again focus the squad on him, keep moving and take out the lackeys yourself. In every case he's dropped before the last phantom for me.

You think Kai Leng is hard on insanity? Marauder Shields will make you cry

D'uh, funny, I had no problems with those Husks and the Marauder even though they completely surprised me, I still nailed them without breaking pace.

Now, the first wave defending the missile battery, that one had me raging for quite some time and I wasn't looking forward for the supposedly even harder Brutes+Banshees+Harvester+second wave of Banshees and mobs, then I beat the first wave and that supposedly harder fight was a cakewalk.

I think I am just weird with difficulty spikes.

This was a piece of cake with Garrus + EDI + my infiltrator. Open with energy drain overload overload. "COVER ME WHILE I RECHARGE" before he even gets a shot off. Then pick off the noobs.

Once I did it so fast the script broke and he got stuck on the floor. Had to reload the autosave and restart the fight.

lol yeah im not lookin forward to the last few fights. as a lvl 60 soldier what would be the best bonus power to use?? i was thinking either energy drain/defence drone/defence matrix but then i thought defence matrix's damage protection at 40% if maxed out probs wont make a difference on insanity which is why the armor i wear maxes my weapon damage. i run with the widow X, either the phaston X/mattock X or vindicator X with armor piecing mod and extended mag, disciple X and tempest X (which weighs absolutely nothing). i normally take either garrus and tali or garrus and liara. so i thought it probs wouldnt hurt for me to have energy drain so i can take out shields/barriers and restore my shields at the same time. havnt started the final mission on earth yet.

You don't HAVE to beat the 6 Banshees and 12 Brutes that attack you at the same time.

When they start yelling that the missiles are ready to launch you can just run around the cluster**** of enemies and press the button and it goes to a cutscene. :P

I know, I did exactly that. Ran there, activated the sequence, kited a bit, killed a few mobs and a Banshee in the meantime and a minute or so later, it was ready. Ran there, activated, done.

I mean the fight for the first missile launch, the one with the first Banshees and the infinite spawn of mobs until you defeat the Banshees. That's the one that had me hanging on the edge.

Btw, no that I am playing NG+, is it easy-mode for you guys too? I had to check if the difficulty was turned to normal because it was so ridiculously easy to blaze through the levels with my re-imported Shepard. Isn't NG+ supposed to be harder?

It's actually more difficult to kill that last Phantom before you take out Leng, in my experience. He's comically squishy once you finally get past his shields.

I used Energy Drain to great effect, I took the Damage evolutions at level 4 and 6 and 100% restore for level 5.

dude its the most scripted fight in video game history. dont even shoot him just focus on the phantoms then when he says something like "your too late shepard" the all of a sudden gets super weak shields and health and dies in like 4 falcon shots.

Kicked his ass as engineer on normal.
and whooped his ass even more as soilder on Insanity.
What you do is just keep your distance and shoot him til he dies.
take out his soilders when they drop them focus on him, I never used cover.
If I did I HARDLY used it.

I just let him try to melee me while i get my squadmates to kill his shields. Because after mashing F I get to kick him in the guts.

The trick is to pack a weapon that can put down a lot of power downrange. the Revenant or the Falcon are helpful with this. Pack disrupter rounds (they should help with almost all the enemies in the room).

Hit the hostiles as soon as they drop from the ceiling (the Assault troopers are helpless while they're using their rocket boots).

Kai Leng is a joke. His greatest weakness is a rifle butt to the face. You'll have to stop beating him eventually so he can recharge and summon reinforcements. This works with any class on any difficulty. I did it with an adept on insane.
