If I would have an objection it would be that the neck needs to be a small amount longer, and that they picked the wrong fingers to edit. But hey, overall I think it's ok.

Actually it makes complete sense. The Reapers need (or needed, up until ME3 where they buttsects the plot) a race with enough genetic diversity to create a super-Reaper to stop the spread of dark energy. This race turned out to be humanity. Now it is quite reasonable to suggest they planeted genetically modified organisms, programmed to develop in a specific way, on different worlds and then sat back and waited for the results. It could be that this is in fact part of the cycle, which would explain the constant similarities between most species.
This whole theory about the "super reaper" has gone way to far. This was never part of the actual Mass Effect story, this is purely a fan-fic creation.
Yes, dark energy has been on the table during the creation of Mass Effect, but never did any of the official BioWare staff or Mass Effect writers mention a "super reaper" that's supposed to stop the spread of dark energy. That idea is is created by the fanbase, not by BioWare.
Fair play to you on this one, I did not know that.

Of course some of these species would say "kthxbai" to the modification and do what they want anyway (read Krogan) and some life will always develop of it's own accord (read Hanar) but the majority, even the Protheans fit that category of "way too similar to be a conincidence".
This is true. But there is a technical reason why all aliens in Mass Effect look humanoid. It's because of the technical limitations of a video-game engine and a console. Also, it would be way to much time-consuming to build a different rig and a different animation set for every single species. Right now, all the species in Mass Effect use the same rig and the same animation set. That way, BioWare could spare resources and put those into other places of the game.
Well yes I know that, but I'm the sort of person who needs an in-universe explanation and so far I have yet to come across a different one that fits with all in game evidence/events. Headcanon here we come!
Thanks for the misconceptions page, that is exactly the one.

Never understood the people that want Quarians to look just like humans. The Asari already fill that role. Quarians should look humanish, but they shouldn't look just like humans with glowing eyes. That's just kinda lame. I for one thought that the sketch book had some rather nice looking faces, that were alien, yet still human enough to find attractive. Wonder why Bioware didn't go with any of those faces.comrade gando wrote...

Sadly, bioware clearly did not have faith that their male community, unlike their female one, would be okay with a "very alien" love interest.
Seems like they were mostly right. I've heard most guys say that to them most guys look just as off putting as aliens anyways. So to them Garrus is the same as Jacob or Kaiden.
I just think its hilarious that they gave women gamers EXTREMELY alien men but were afraid to do the same to the male gamers.
Case in point I'm hearing a lot of the idea that if she were too alien she wouldnt be attractive enough.
I think anyone saying this misses the point of Tali as a LI ENTIRELY.

The problem with a lot of Tali fanart (and the real deal for that matter) is that they just pick a human face and change the eye or the skin tone. It's not alien at all.

I prefer that one myself. I much prefer the idea that Tali is a mammal. The OP's picture... too slimey looking.

I'm not saying that Quarians should look like walking flashlights, nor do their hooded heads show any signs of a banana-shaped cranium, but I wonder this question was ever raised when the art team at BioWare designed these two species.

I think it has primarily to do with how Bioware expects male fans (who probably mostly play Male Sheps) will respond to LI's. Notice that it's only the female LI's that actually look alien -- Garrus and Thane. All the male LI's are basically generic human babes. Looking over the responses of this thread, I can see why, though, I think it's a damn shame. They missed a great opportunity with the Tali reveal.

They id, I would have loved her to be very alien but attractive in her own way. The point was that you liked her without seeing her face. She actually is WORRIED about your opinion of it when you romance her. Made me wonder if she felt she was too far from home, so to speak.

That's all I have to say about it. That is probably an even worse idea than the starchild. ... now I got really worked up on it. Lucky it's not something canon.
I really wish everyone (including BioWare) would stop trying to explain the the reapers. They don't need to be explained. Why ruin the magic? I don't get it. If you begin explaining something, you are closing doors.

Disproved stereotypes for the win! XD
I wouldn't of had a real problem with alien Tali, the whole idea at the core of the romance was personality over looks and I didn't have a problem with that. Tali won me over in ME1. But that OP, she looks like a hooker! Tali should be petite and cute and have hipster glasses!

I don't mind if she were alien or not, just that the image we have now is good enough for me. Personally, I would have been happier without seeing her. I like a bit of mystery in games.
