Anybody attempting to get a refund is a horrible person imo. But don't use this to paint the movement, this is the act of individuals, not anything that's in any way endorse by the retake movement. It's just proof that every group has horrible people in it.

How exactly do you get a refund from a charity ? It makes no sense, unless the accounts they are trying to bill are fake, or the donation is on going like £2 a month stuff you get all over the media. If it's on going and people never realised that when they signed up I don't really see they are doing much wrong.

People donate via paypal, I'm assuming people are contesting their transactions.

There might be some idiots who had no idea what the drive was for... I agree they should be named and shamed..

I for one however donated (i've donated before ME3 to this exact same charity), and know what it was for..

I would like to point out however, that out of the 3500 (somewhere there i believe) contributors, it might just be like 20 or so that are asking for their money back, maybe also because they had heard that the Chip-in drive was shut down because of some unforeseen circumstances (many rumours still flying around)..

Dont always believe the press,.. Many things have been brought to light thanks to this debacle, about the gaming press...

EDIT:

I would also like to say, that to brand a LOT of people, based on the actions of a few, is also something that is ridiculous... and this is the way the articles are bending their writing towards.. which is unfair.. Many people, donated out of pure good, and generous intentions, regardless of whether or not Bioware would react to the movement..

It was great that at the same time so many people could get together for 1 cause, something like a genuine charity can benefit from this gathering. And 80k$ is not a little amount, bless those kids in need, and I wish them all the best, and speedy recoveries, and loads of help.

Those complaining about the few that are asking for their money back (although i also detest this action), I ask that you be like the other MANY that did not, and that donated for real.

When will we get an official statement from "Hold the Line", oh that is right, there is no leader, it is just a mishmash of gamers who wanted something, so they dragged a charity into their "good" fight and won. Now they want their money back from that charity and are unequipped to deal with all the negative feedback.

I also feel bad for Bioware and Mass Effect, somehow EA/Bioware is going to have to clean this mess up and for what, a plot-holed video game ending, let me repeat my self, a plot-holed video game ending. There was never anything positive about this movement, everything I have seen have been based around someone getting something, or someone feeling that they deserve something, that they are owed.

It is a joke, this is the society we live in today, we step on/over people, we use people and then toss them as soon as we get what we want.

Can someone please email that Penny Arace article to all the gaming news outlets.

I think most of them simply ask for the money back. And since it's done via Paypal and it's online, the donations are anonymous so no one has to deal with dirty looks directed at them like if you were to do the same IRL.

But there is a dirty look bing cast at those people, even online.

http://www.forbes.co...ke-mass-effect/

for a slightly more balanced article on the position of Child's Play, the article in Forbes, I don't see any refernce in the quote Forbes provided from Jamie Dillion (assuming its the same Jamie Penny Arcade are refering to since they didn't include a last name) about high demand for money returns. Penny Arcades article is short on facts and long on rehetoric... Also please note the time the article was released by Forbes is after that of the Pennyarcade article
I also don't see any quotation marks around the part about Paypal, so did Miss Dillion actually say this or is Penny Arcade implying she said this?

Not substantive. No supporting data.
If these really are the words of one of the contacts at the charity then this is unfortunate.
Considering how much was raised so quickly for this organization.

Child plays didn't ask them to stop at 80 because they've had enough money, but because the organization doesn't want to be associated with the RetakeME3 movement.

Considering how much was donated directly because of initiatives form Retake I can understand, if not condone this type of behavior.

I am unimpressed by anyone who wants a refund. I've donated to Medicine sans Frontierre for most of my adult life, even done a bike ride from London to Paris in support of them, and the idea that someone would donate and then demand a refund is disturbing.

Despite that, I don't think it should taint the whole movement, any more than the behaviour of extreme fanatics should.

How disgustingly pathetic.

That being said, I suppose this should've been expected from "the movement".

karma also see people running around making generalized statements without proof.  as someone who donated and has no intention of seeking a refund, i would suggest all unproven statements and generalizations are a bad idea - in light of karma of course.

What if some people contributed to the charity with the only purpose of taking it back out so we can talk about it in thread like this? You should see how politics works.

That's why it's important to get details. Either the number of people out of the total -or- the dollar amount withdrawn. Then we can see if it's a significant problem.

Right now we don't know much.

Its time to grow up Peter Pan - There is no conspiracy, for goodness sake there's not even a movement. Its just a bunch of people/fans who are upset about the ending to a game (which is fair enough, their opinion is valid). The larger population does not even care about "Retake Mass Effect"

People posting up details of this are not trying to "derail the movement" they're pointing out a disgusting act that a small amount of ME fans have done. Condemn it and move on, quit with the conspiracy theories

I wasn't completely happy with the game ending, it lacked closure for me but I would never have anything to do with the "Retake movement" because of posts such as the ones above demanding a charity show proof that people asked for their donations back.

While the majority may feel the ending is terrible and needs to be redone that does not mean the majority neccesserily support "The movement" and the childish antics carried out under its banner.

"The Movement" to me is quite simply an embarassment  to gamers

I'm gonna use that Peter Pan line in the future. I like it.

If a movement damages a corporation's sales, who knows what the corporation will do damage the movement. I agree that it's a small chance however.

I can't hate on Child's Play. $75K to $80K to kids is hospitals is okay in my book. I don't care what movement raises the money.

Erm *raises hand* this one has a question. For those who didn't ask their donations back, does it still go to child's play?

Well I've never used Paypal but something seems off since there are no goods involved. The only thing I can think of is people claiming their account was used without permission or something.

I suppose you could write a cheque and then cancel it before it clears so if paypay works in that manner that might be it. Otherwise I don't realy get how it can happen.

According to the article, it says they stopped it. The folks at PA aren't willing to let child's play be used as a tool to advance some agenda other than that of child's play itself...

I really enjoy how people say we cannot trust media/game news outlets over this horrible fiasco that is beginning to unfold, but when Forbes (out of all places, FORBES), prints an article not containing the same amount of details that may or may not make the situation seem as bad, "HOLD THE LINE" completely backs them.

Back-pedaling...classic politics, the game has changed.

They stopped 'accepting' donations.. The money that was already raised, is still going to the charity, Do not assume things without info please..

Paypal allows you to contest any transaction made on your account, and you fill in your own description of why you're contesting it. The other party then has a set amount of time to respond/accept to the claim. If they don't respond, the money is automatically returned to your account.

Well, as said before, this is depressing. Hopefully we can get a percent, hope it's low. Then we don't have to feel terrible later.

The ruling party inturkey accept donations from Al-queda. Do you think anyone cares about the size of the donations (which are in the 8 digit), or do they care more about the fact that the turkish government is funded by a terrorist organization?

P.s. this isn't a bash against the turkish people, just their government.

The "Movement" is not going to damage the companies sales, they are just a vocal representation of the disappointment of allot of fans.

Those fans will decide personally whether to cease buying Bioware products - not "The movement"

Different people have different views :)  Some trust media some don't.

Whether you agree with RME or think us a joke, please don't paint us all with the same brush. No one here agrees with the people who apparently asked for their money back.
