Bring on the new main character Bioware, and this time let us choose his/her species.

A curious idea which could work quite well if executed correctly.  There are however, many obstacles.  They would need a large amount of voice actors simply for the protagonist, all the various subplots would have to reflect the various species, backgrounds, character relationships, etc.  I think its a great idea, but also a very ambitious one that would be incredibly hard to pull off.

Not really. They could just use a single male, and female voice actor, and use him/her for each species. With Turian they would just add a voice effect.

Assuming the ending is revised and Shep can live and the galaxy isn't destroyed, I wouldn't mind seeing him come back as an NPC. Maybe play something like the Anderson role to the player's character.

I wouldn't object to Shep being the player character again in ME4, but from a narrative standpoint it seems like it would be more natural for him to step into a statesman role. It would be odd for him to just go back to being a Spectre after uniting the galaxy and defeating the Reapers. Shepard has done enough fighting. Someone else should take over as the action hero in the next installment.

I don't really care if the main plot is to pick up the dry cleaning before six, I'd be fully supportive of any more games featuring Shep! But BW did say ME3 was the last of her/his story, and the endings of ME3 pretty much confirm that...

Sure that would be an easy way of doing it, especially for the voice effects of the Turians.  But I feel like it could potentially take away the uniqueness of each characters.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that, if they were to go this route, they would have to do a lot of careful planning (especially in VA choice) to make sure the characters are unique and personable, not just clones of the same character in a different body.

I see your point. Frankly as long as the game is good, and has a good story/character options I'm happy. It would be cool if it was more RPGish like Mass Effect 1. I'll just be glad I won't have to deal with Reapers anymore(hopefully).

Going through the Omega 4 relay, which NO ONE had ever survived, into dark space and hitting the collectors where they live with only a small team. Don't even get me started on the seeker swarms. Nevermind SURVIVING this suicide mission? Uh.......no thank you.

I'll take my chances taking on one reaper, one spectre and the geth with the help of the entire alliance fleet on our home turf. But that's just me.

But in ME1 he stopped other reapers from coming through relay, so basically he saved galaxy. In ME2 he saved some colonies and stopped Collectors from making another Reaper.

Without Shepard's mission in ME1 galaxy would be wiped out. Without Shepard's mission in ME2 galaxy would be just a worse place to live.

I absolutely hate protagonist changes in a series, unless it's something like Dragon Age or Final Fantasy where we've gotten a new character per game.

I don't plan on playing any more ME games after this... Without Shep & crew, the game just wouldn't feel right. I don't really care about playing as an Asari or Turian or whatnot.

Yah, see that's my issue, too, Lady ... especially if the protagonist is a good one.  I hated when they bagged my Warden (one of the many reasons I never purchased DA2 even though I did try a friends' copy), and while I'm glad I've got to explore Shep through three games, I still feel he has some fight in him.  But there are people (in this thread even) who clearly are tired of him, as I said in my original posting, so ...

I dunno ... I could read books with the same great protag. til the cows come home, and could do the same with characters  in a game ... guess I'm just old-fashioned. :)

LOL!  We have a lot in common, I feel the same.  I'd play a Shep that just pushes papers in an office on the Citadel ... okay, maybe not, but you get my point.  B)

That's, ah, not how voice acting works. You don't just slap a flange on a normal performance to make it - ta-da! - turian. Look at the unmodified sound files that people have ripped from the demo and the actual game. Most of the vocal effects are, in fact, acting.

Arrival.

But yes, very good points. Like I said, I wasn't speaking on "Monumental" and can't disagree with you on that. But I wouldn't go through that Omega 4 relay for all the tea in China. Image IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPB

Do you also prefer peanut butter on your waffles as opposed to syrup?!

 This is why fanfiction is a saving grace for ME, in my mind at least. I'm not willing to let go of these characters, I've known them for longer than I've known any of my so called real life friends.

Pretty much this.

I'm only going to play the next ME trilogy, if BW creates amazing characters without sidelining any of them for more than a mission or two. Seriously, I like most characters in the current trilogy and I hated to see Miranda, Wrex or Ashley getting sidelined for large portions of the games.

Lets say, next trilogy should -really- introduce friendships, love and rivalry between squadmates. I want more. I want to escape into the universe entirely.

My exact same feeling.  I want Bioware to take incredible world they have created, and once again allow me to lose myself in it.  I hope they take the good and learn from the bad of the ME triology, and turn it into something amazing in the future.  I would be a real shame to see the ME universe fade away.

^ heck with it, I wouldn't mind if BW/EA decide to reboot the entire series and fix plot holes & stuff in a few years. Just keep the universe as it is. Including species, Mass Relays and all the fluff. Create authentic characters, make'm friends, give'm a reason for some rivalry, introduce a more sophisticated engine for romances and friendships ... whatever. Basically - make an universe that -almost- works like real world - at least the illusion should do it.

What, why not?!  It wouldn't feel the same, true.  But it could still be great.  A whole new game set in a world we're all familiar with.

Because I play for the characters, not the setting or plot or anything like that. The game would just feel too empty for me without the people I've come to know and love. I'm weird like that.

this.
And not weird at all. FemShep is FemShep but I also can't imagine ME without Garrus.

I once had hopes for post ME3 ME universe. It could have had some awesome story elements to it. I personally was hoping for the chance to play a different race and more customized character than Shep.

That said, I think the plans are for PRE ME3 games. Like the Anime movie is going to be about Vega. I guess they could do a game with Vega as the star. You could have Default Vega of FemVega, both voice acted by Freddy. ;-)

lol, I think we are all junkies at this point ;)

But yeah, one thing that would be very hard to deal with would be different species.  I'm used to Asari, Salarians, Krogan, Turians, Quarians, etc.  For me at least, that would be harder to deal with than no Shepard.

So pretty much, Bioware, take what you already made, make it better, then give it back to us :P

I for one wouldn't mind an ME1 remake with ME3 tech...

TBH, I'd like to see a new trilogy that starts small and builds. Player character begins as someone relatively insignificant (e.g., a crew member on freighter or an alliance grunt), swept up into events that we learn after a slow build have galactic implications. Picks up companions and develops skills/heroic traits along the way. Saves the day.

You can't really do a storyline like that with Shepard. There's no starting small with him. He's the most famous mother****er in the galaxy. His character is already defined. His hereoicness is already established. His companions already known and well defined. Sure I love Shep and the old gang, and it'd be fun to run with them again, but it would definitely constrain the storytelling in ways that I'm not sure I like. Besides, who's to say the new protagonist couldn't, say, run into Jack and invite her to join the new crew.

I hope they re-do ME2 with ME3 tech also.

While we are talking about our fantasies (I hope that didn't sound weird), I was secretly hoping a DLC where you control your LI in that jungle planet (I am still think it is Africa but let's call it jungle planet) in a fight for survival.

LOL!  I like it! :D

Yah, I think it'll be tough to get me back into the ME universe unless it's awesome.  I mean, I've just so become self-identified with Shep, it'll be hard.  Although I say that, but I did enjoy KOTOR2 with the Exile more than I thought I would ...  I dunno. We'll see, I guess ... there's a lot of bridges to cross first before ...

And I echo the reboot with ME3 tech!  That would  be  AWESOME!  :o

@LadyofRivendell ... yah, we'll have to diverge on the peanut butter on waffles ... although I do like both waffles and peanut butter, so maybe I'll have to try it!  I am, however, a bit of a syrup addict ...
