I'm a huge BG1 & BG2 fan myself and I must say, I'm far from disappointed.

From what I've read here, it seems that alot of "BG fans" were expecting not much more than BG directly translated into 3D, without any regard to how much the RPG landscape has changed the past 9 years.

Is Dragon Age a Baldur's Gate 3 ? No, it isn't. But it is one of the few modern day RPG's that dares to look back at its roots and extracts alot of what made them great and lay the way for other RPG's. It's old and new tied together and not a just a polished version of the old. If you want that, install the widescreen/high resolution mod for the Infinity engine games.

I like you Sirsmirkalot am a huge BG1 & 2 fan who does in fact prefer Dragon Age over both games. But we've got to keep an open mind to those that wanted things slightly different. The only thing I would change in DA:O is the game being fully voice acted (well except from a few non worthy npcs) in favor of the old wall of texts.

I can also totally understand peoples hate for DA:O mages. They are really quite boring and lack the awesomeness of a D&D mage ~ but its a different game that doesn't use the D&D rule set so it's to be expected. But nobody can deny they could have done a bit more with them. What they did do with the twists is superb I like freezing then shattering and setting grease on fire and what not.

But as for BG3 I don't really think anyone wants that. The bhaalspawn storyline was worn out and it was the perfect time to end it.  But you're right again the game is a good blend of old and new into a brand new setting. I for one have already gotten my moneys worth from the game and I've not yet dived into the Toolset.

6. There are so many minor graphical flaws it makes me think bioware said screw it and pushed the game out. The game is riddled with sloppy graphical errors. Ask me for a list and I will go back through the entire game and write them all down if I must make a point. I am sure I saw one every 5 through 10 minutes or so. For a 50+ hour game that makes way too many to not become annoying.

Hi DauthdorianSilverstorm,

Please provide a list. I would like you to prove your point.

Thanks.

Well if bioware is going to continue to "rush" 5 year games you let me know.

It took 5 years to release a game with blatant oversights and lack of polish. So either it was rushed or it was intentionally delayed for marketing hype.

I gave DA:O a 8.5 out of 10.

My biggest gripes were....

-Combat is inbalanced.

-Combat is not fun, a grind.

-Loot/Chest System is a Total Failure.

-Story is Mediocre.

-Story disconnect is possible.

-Lacks "WOW" element or interesting plot twist.

I ended up cheating(console) out of frustration.(so I suck sue me) The mod community over at Nexus is the only thing keeping me coming back for more.

That said while not biowares finest achievement it is no doubt a fine game compared to most other games now a days.

Ok Crawling lets hear what great piece of literature you read? Let me guess Harry Potter? DnD books? I'd like to know because I am fairly certain that I have read some extremely amazing books in my time.

Any of the Terry Brooks books, Lord of the Rings, a few other authors.

And to the person saying a none-BG fan's post is worthless? LoL is all I have to say to you.

Maybe if you read my post. You might not "LoL". I did not in anyway shape or form imply that a non BG fan's post is worthless. I typed "

Would make for an interesting poll to see how many Bioware fans that played BG at its release, either 1 or 2 feel the same way. Otherwise you're comment is worthless. "

Which basically means "If you didnt play BG1 or 2 at launch as well as Dragon Age, its worthless to judge." and I stand by this. You need to remember that for the time BG was something fresh, new and remarkably great in its scope. DA:O, even though as I've stated more than once, I prefer it. DA:O just isn't anything revolutionary it's a superb game but its not going to make people sit back and think "Woha this could be the greatest game I've ever played" if they were a fan of the original series. I know off hand of 6 people who have no interest what so ever in Dragon Age after buying it, and only three who brought and are still playing it on it's UK release date.

Anyway to call an end to this thread Planescape Torment is the best roleplaying game ever made. This my chaps is a true fact.

I have played both. So 'loved' BG2 I never finished the initial escape crap. Haven't bothered with BG1 in years, still play Civilization: Alpha Centari, so I have no prob playing old games.

Yup, already played thru once as human, now working on elf. And will play again and again. Don't give a flying frig at a rolling donut if ****e like moss or a rubble pile floats some assnuggets boat, not what I bought a game for. First playthru took over 100 hours, so including the time I am on the second playthru have paid less the  30 cents an hour to play this game. Unlike the pathetic crap pile called Empire Total War that wont even get past the credits flash screen before crapping out. THAT is not working. This game is fine but for dickwads that feel the need to have some programmer do everything for them including wiping their ****.

As for the podunk that thinks people shouldn't question the military, `,,|,,      Go find a dictatorship to live under if you think the military gets a free pass in a democracy ON ANYTHING. The fact that you think what you say matters because you are in the military proves your patheticness, nevermind proclaiming your enlightenments based on whatever book/s you read. I got the Complete works of Shakesphere in arms reach of me as wll as fantasy, sci-fi, history, fiction, non-fiction....... don't need your approval on what lit we might read. Oh ya, military fiction written by former servicemen too.  Hell, If I turn around and go to another pile of books I have the records from the War of The Roses era in England. As they were written by their authors of the time. Guess I can claim to be a bloody literary hero, if I were the dickwad you seem to be.

Ya that's right, promote free discussion by locking a thread because people had better things to do then be on a forum to keep up to date with the whiners, rather then actually playing the game.  As if there is someone in your house holding a gun to your head forcing you to read a stale thread.
