A lot of media sites are already claiming that Bioware will change/retcon or create an alternative path to the ending.

IF and IF Bioware now dosen't deliver this "promise" of change. Remember Dr Ray just said clarify the ending NOT change, he also mentioned how he supports their ""artistic integrity"(regardless if its crap or not).

What will happen to these media sites and how will the public react if Bioware dosen't change the endings as most assume.

It seems Ray backed BW into an even tighter corner. I most certainly don't  want to be them now. They are seriously screwed.

I lack sympathy because they brought this on themselves. It's been a "perfect storm" of ****ups and circumstances.

Bioware have the ultimate QQ bomb at their disposal.

April 1st they should release 1.01 patch which tweaks Marauder Shields health in the final game sequence.

Agree, I think a lot of people will be surprised after reading the news articles only to find the colors and god-child are still there.

That's what you get for being vague.

Just when I think this ****storm can't get any bigger or crazier, it seems most likely that will be the case. Posted Image

There is not enough popcorn in the universe  for this. Posted Image

At this point, I have pretty much already written the ending in my head to my satisfaction anyway. So to me, it wouldn't matter really.

Nothing will happen to the media sites. They will continue to report false news and people will continue to be morons.

And like you said, BW aren't changing the ending, they're just "adding clarity" or whatever. Probably by way of a few extra cutscenes, I imagine. The public reaction, by then, will probably be "meh".

Can that not be done now with the coelesced editor?

Perhaps some creative coelesced editing could be used to patch in user-created youtube video endings to replace the current ending.  Download the video, get to that point in the game, instead of the default game video sequence playing it starts up the youtube video of your choice to show a proper and logical ending.

People should also know they won't be able to return their game when the actual details of the ending are announced in April. Too much time will have passed.

I think this is the most likely.  By the time April's 1st week comes and goes and all that is forthcoming is more cutscenes to flesh out the illogic and despair of the endings, people will lose any and all interest in Mass Effect (except for those who just don't care about story and only like run-and-gun and some cheap T and A).

I am fast approaching the "meh" stage myself.  I am just about to fire up Deus Ex: Human Revolution for another go now...Adam Jenson never lets me down.

That's what I keep saying!  Some people say to "wait and see" and the ONLY answer is, "you cannot return for a refund INDEFINITELY."  I turned mine back in last week.  I'll be happy to re-purchase it if an ending correction is forthcoming that elicits more than just, 'meh'.

People are dumb when it comes to such things. It's like when games have serious bugs and they hold on to the game in hope it will be fixed. Where as returning it and then re-buying it when the patch comes out will save you money, sometimes a considerable ammount. DA2 was less than half price by the time the autoattack feature was fixed.

If they DON'T change the endings?

Not much really, Bioware loses 10% sales on the next game they release and us sheep gamers will keep buying their games regardless, like what happened with Dragon Age 2.

Hey, Dragon Age 2 wasn't that bad. It went "Good, decent, AWESOME, decent, decent, good, AWESOME, what, decent, AWESOME, good, sequel hook". ME3 goes "AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME, good, good, AWESOME, AWESOME, good, decent, what, what, credit roll?!".

I'll kick, scream, cry, run around naked and vandalize the cars of every Bioware employee.

While indoctrinated, mind you.

I daresay you are not entirely correct.  I believe they will have essentially executed the Mass Effect series, that sales on DLC will be NO WHERE NEAR what they planned or desired.  I also believe that the plans for the movie will ultimately and quietly be shelved.

Didn't have to be this way.

Me, I rarely do RPGs so other than Mass Effect games I've NEVER owned any other Bioware title.  I HATE sword and sorcery stuff and that is the entirety of the rest of their offerings so...

Others who are into dungeons and dragons stuff will leave to a not-insignificant degree I suspect.  Trust is lost.

Mass Effect's demise will leave a long bad taste in people's mouth.  It makes me sad because it did NOT need to be this way.  Seriously, the forums are a shadow of their former selves pre-ME3.  All the good will, the ongoing threads and fan-art, etc, is now hollowed out.  This wont improve with time.

I might do the same thing. I'll buy it back if they actually change the ending.

It was also strange that Ray said in his statement that BioWare would provide "clarity" and "closure" and then used Twitter to say they would not "necessarily alter anything." That's a big piece of information to leave out of the statement.

As we can see from the news articles, they missed that part.

The same as what happens if they do. They already lost a lot of customers, and the ending was just the final straw. The rest of the game was pretty shoddy as well.
