I thought his suit looked kinda stupid, like a space Jester.

Loved his accent though. Why does every alien have to sound American or British?

Oh joy. I guess after the sexism and homophobia, it's time for the racism to show itself.

Personally I like that he has a different accent and doesn't sound like every other American/Canadian/British accented person in the ME galaxy.

Was anyone else immediately annoyed that he looked like a collector instead of those statues on Ilos?

You guys seriously can't talk about the character without resorting to stereotyping?

I personally have no problem with Javik, I had the same general feeling about his character that Liara did though.

A powerful and mysterious race and then they turned out to be Romans but even crueler.

I personally wasn't, I only said what it reminded me of...

I actualy prefer Javik to Ashley, Jacob and Miranda 10000 times.

I was mad that he talked like a Rastamon at first.

But then his character grew on me.

On a serious note though, I liked the character. He shed light to the Protheans, and showed that they were totally not what you expected. Like Liara says "I've been studying them all my life, and to think that somehow they were wiser because they were technologically advanced", kinda shows how people tend to view "ancient races" in most sci-fi series. Take the Vorlons in B5 for example. Shown as all wise and enigmatic, but in the end, they were just as manipulative as the Shadows. The Protheans are like that. They weren't ancient Jedi's. They were basically imperialists who flaunted their technological superiority, and let the weaker races either join them or die, which is totally not the impression you get of them in the first game. I liked the fact that the character added just that much more flavor to the ME universe.

How people can think his accent is Jamaican is beyond me, lol, but never mind.

I just thought "OK, how is he gonna interact with the main story" and I have to admit I was quite pleased with how he did.

Jamaican' me crazy, mon! And yes I know it's more African, than Jamaican. But the OP asked what first popped into my head. :) But I have no problem with his accent. It works.

Oh hell yes. Those three were the most untouched characters of the ME franchise.
I never liked Ashley (the racist) and I killed her off in ME1.
Miranda was obnoxious and I didn't give a flying f**k about her genentic engineering or her family.
And Jacob reminded me of Kanye "Fish Sticks" West, so I couldn't touch him. He seemed a little too whiny.

I agree with this statement. I expected them to be some kind of peaceful, benevolent race, but they were anything but that which made them so much more interesting, I also like Javik as a character, and he was awesome in combat.

My first thoughts? Das Racist.

Javik's condescending and intolerant comments regarding other races is a bit off putting at first. However, I think that's supposed to play in to the revelation that the Protheans were really imperialistic conquerors who respected nothing but strength. As opposed to the scholarly, peaceful race they were believed to be.

He's just from a different time.

Voice didn't sound Jamaican to me at all.

He looked like the collectors so that was good. Not sure I understood why he was wearing armor that looked more fit for Dragon Age than ME though.

I really enjoyed his character, and how he ended up being truely honest with me at our last conversation on the Normandy. Great writing Bioware.

LOL My first thought on him "OK, this is not how I imagined Protheans"! :P I expected wise, scholarly, philosophical creatures-I totally blame Liara for that, hehe, her view tainted mine there-and we got...Dirty Harry! :P

I liked that his accent was African. A real-life theory is that the first humans originated on the modern day continent of Africa. It seemed fitting that Protheans, the dominant species of the previous cycle (or oldest known species of the Mass Effect universe) would have an African accent.

His looks or voice are really irrelevant. He could as well sound like a loli from japanese cartoons and look like Chewbacca. Will you like it or not is truly a matter of personal preference and in this case I would be ready to defend Bioware's "artistic integrity" regardless from my personal opinion. Unlike one other fundamentally flawed issue which we are *cough* extensively *cough* discussing since few weeks.
