His look is consistent w the collectors. The picture in the codex would have required a lot more explanation.

It was explained, IIRC. Javik tells you the Prothean stuff was built over the ruins of the major race before them.

Seriously, guys, lay off the Jamaican jokes. It's not funny. You're only making yourselves look stupid.

After hearing his explanation of Prothean society, my first thought was, "Well, so much for the romantic imaginings of how it *might've* been. Turns out the Protheans were jerks."

I thought he was well done. And yes, should have been included in the game. His bits with liara are some of the best banter in the game.

I heard it pre release in leaked audio. At the time we only had a few lines of him shouting, "COMMANDAH!", along with various other "in combat" dialog. From the limited audio, I originally thought he was Jamaican. Anyway, I wasn't impressed, but when more audio got leaked I changed my tune.

When I first heard the audio clips of his voice I thought he sounded pretty funny. When I saw him in game, looked into his eyes as he spoke, I thought to myself: "What a badass mofo".

I personally have always loved a the sound of a nigerian accent. There's something uniquely beautiful about it and thought it fit pretty well with a character who was supposed to represent an ancient world.

I thought it worked. Didn't really bother me all that much, though I did feel bad for Liara by the time she found out that the Protheans were not quite what she thought they were.

Even worst... the Protheans are their Gods... meaning Asari beleif are all false,  the scene in the temple pretty much destroyed Asari religion.

Brain: "He has four eyeballs."
Brain accessing memory: Collectors had all kinds of lights on the helmets that could have been multi-eyeballs.
Brain still really surprised that the non-husk Prothean has four eyeballs.
Brain: OMG THEY ALL JUST LOOKED IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS!

^.^ Then I saw him kick butt and all was good.

I don't see what the big deal about his accent was..does everyone in the galaxy have to speak english with a north american or english accent? As for his character, its actually pretty close to how I felt the protheans would be. I always suspected the Protheans were imperialists, and a Prothean would be a arrogant and dismissive towards us, as we would be if we woke up thousands of years from now and saw the world was dominated by the descendants of farm animals.

I like the character, but I am very disappointed by how not important it ends up to have a living breathing Prothean aboard the Normandy. I mean, humanity itself got technologically propelled by their findings of the Prothean cache on Mars, allowing them to discover FTL technology. The next thing you know after finding him is a mere convo with Hackett "Oh, a live Prothean? That's kinda cool, you think he could help us build the Crucible or something?".

And outside of that little scene in the Citadel when a Asari and a Hanar overhear him talk and realize it's a living Prothean there's really not much going on about the fact that there's a freaking living, breathing and able Prothean in the galaxy helping Commander Shepard fighting the Reapers. What about more reactions around? It's kinda like a BIG DEAL to me, just kinda... at least Liara does have genuine reactions to the situation.

It's like either almost no one knows except high-ranking officers at the Crucible construction (Hackett and all), and the Normandy's crew. Some characters have some reactions if you bring him in certain missions (like Sur'Kesh, that Salarian guy who thinks that Javik is joking when he says he's a Prothean). I mean seriously. I did except more reactions implying complete surprise, astounded people around "What?! A LIVING PROTHEAN?!" ... man finally someone reacts!

You know 'cause they just happened to have been wiped out last cycle 50K years ago and stuff... just sayin'.

I think there is something omitted in the ME trilogy, and that is the presence of lots of other races, a bit like in Star Wars, and so people assume Javik to be maybe a very rare type of alien.. not a Prothean.

The reason for doing so, is probably because it would be impossible to design hundreds of races and give them the right place in a trilogy without making them look pointless (Reason why I do not like the pointless multitude of aliens in Star Wars).

I find hard if not impossible to beleive that in a galaxy of hundreds bilions stars, there is only 7 races that achieved space flight.

Since West Africa is the cradle of all humanity, I thought it was a nice touch to parallel that in the game and have the Protheans using a Nigerian accent. It possessed the right sort of resonance for the last survivor of the old world, a good way to make him sound old without needing to actually be old with a grandfatherly voice, etc.

I thought it was a decision you could clearly imagine the development towards and thinking processes behind.

Except that nobody speak English in Mass Effect, but "Galactic" so.. he is speaking "Nigerian Galactic" I guess... so realistically speaking this reference makes no sense.. but I can understand the art direction with this.

I agree.

Except that for the case of the Protheans specifically they are known by all species of the current cycle. In fact as clearly started by the Codex and mentioned by characters in ME1 on several occasions, Protheans are believed (in ME1, ME2 and perhaps until the Reapers come in ME3) to have been the creators of the Mass Relays. I mean, the ONLY thing that could explain why there's almost no reactions around with Javik is because basically no one knows (not even Liara, just no one) what a Prothean looks like, until Javik was found (statues on Ilos could be the Inusannon, or any other species part of the Prothean empire).

That's understandable, however it's different when you actually mention that the being on your side IS a Prothean, at which point not knowing how a Prothean looks like become irrelevant, of course unless the person you tell that to believes that you're joking, which wouldn't really make sense considering that all species (main ones anyway) know "something" about the Prothean if at least just "having heard of" the name when talking about the Mass Relays. That's why, when Shepard reports to Hackett after the mission that the team has found a living, breathing Prothean I really couldn't believe Hackett's reaction, "oh nice, well, that's cool Shepard, tell him about the Crucible, Hackett out"... seriously. Humans themselves OWE the Prothean's cache on Mars their technological boost (even if it's indirectly done so by the Protheans) that allowed them to reach the Charon Relay and then use it.

Heck, Hackett doesn't even ask to see him or talk to him! And he's in charge of the Crucible's construction, yet he still asks you to talk Javik into helping about the Crucible? No way, sorry but they could have at least shown Javik talking (or "reporting") to Hackett, and having Hackett telling Javik about how "us primitives" managed to do what we've done, just a mere minute-long convo or something. But... nah... Javik is too pro to talk to people and tell them about the Protheans. The only "worthy" reactions come from Liara alone. All other reactions are casual.

I like to compare it to dinosaurs myself. What would be your reaction of seeing one alive, knowing that no one has ever seen a living dinosaur ever? If you've seen the first Jurassic Park movie just recall Dr. Grant's reaction when he sees the dinosaurs from the Jeep for the first time. Ok, that's dramatic, I don't want that much but seriously, a Prothean right there and... oh cool, k, next?

Hmm. Just trying to think of them for fun. So, last cycle there was the Protheans and all their subjugated/absorbed subject races. Before then, who knows. After then we have Asari, Salarian, Turian, Drell, Batarian, Elcor, Rachni, Quarian, Human,  Volus, and Hanar?

Then uplifted Krogan, Vorcha and Yahg, plus engineered Geth.

Personally I think that's pretty good for 50,000 years, in getting from primitive tribes to reaching the Citadel. Image IPB

I haven't read the Codex as much as I should... Image IPB
