The should make survivability only possible at 4000 ems, and insanity or hard mode.

Surviving or not shouldn't make a difference to the replayability because we've been told by marketing that ME3 would be the end for Shepard. Why so down, BSN?

Will admit though that Hale is going to be a hard act to follow for the next protagonist, and Mark Meer was shaping up to be a good actor himself.

If it meant a more logical (and hopefully less bleak) ending, absolutely.

I want different endings, and would be totally fine if Shepard died in some of them and lived in others.

If you're just a passenger to a certain grave it would take replayability out of the game. The what's the point question would raise it's ugly head again.

That's a good point. The ending ruins the replay value of the game entirely.

Especially since you can just reload, then reload again to see all the endings first hand...no matter would you did during that play-through (or ME1 and ME2).

I don't mind endings where Shepard dies, there just needs to be more "oomph" to it than some 10 second cutscene.

For instance, say Shepard dies taking control of the Reapers...if s/he was high paragon, the Reapers could have gone on to help rebuild the wartorn galaxy and ushered in a new golden age.

If s/he was high Renegade, the Reapers could be used to subvert the other species and make humanity the dominant species of the galaxy, much like the Protheans.

If Shepard was balanced between the two, the Reapers simply fly off into the void never to return, with a cutscene explaining their disappearance (ie: Shepard wanted to make sure the technology of the Reapers couldn't influence the future of the galaxy), maybe in a conversation with evidence of rebuilding efforts (maybe building new mass effect relays) in the background ...and that's just off the top of my head.

Real differences based on how you played your game, and a far more satisfying result of Shepards sacrifice than a 5 second "reapers are leaving cutscene" and a palate swap.

As long as I get to choose in which playthrough I want to kill him, I don't see a problem.

I don't care if she lives or dies, just as long as it makes sense to the story.

This. I'm indifferent to Shepard's wellbeing. I just want an ending that doesn't invalidate 100 hours of incredible story.

I'd say it just symbolizes the whole issue. There aren't varied endings to look forward to, Shepard or not. Suicide Mission from ME2 has more ways of playing out and actually made me play it multiple times to see the different outcomes. ME3 really has just 1 ending. Some small bits change.

IMO ending is where all the choices during the 3 games should have come into play and lead into wildly different outcomes.

I want the choice (it is a choice-driven game, right?).

I wonder if BioWare mid-development of ME3 realized they bit off more than they could chew and, at least partly, just mailed it in.

I still think they should have done Mass Effect 3, pt. 1 and then Mass Effect, pt. 2. They would have made DOUBLE the money and would have had plenty of game-space to REALLY end the game properly. I hate to say it, but I think they might have gotten lazy.

Sure, if I can also have an option where he lives. (let's just not mention a certain scene, 'kay?) Right now, we have bad, really bad, omgwtf? I want sorta good, that was all right, and that's how you win a game endings.

Yes, but not in the way currently portrayed in the endings.

I would be totally OK with Shepard dying if his/her sacrifice is not in vain as it is in Mass Effect 3 right now. A sacrifice that would ensure the survival of his/her squad, Earth, the galaxy as a whole... not the utter destruction of the Mass Relays, the Citadel, and everyone he knows.

Its Shepard's last story so I don't mind. Hell.... I wouldn't mind if there was a Paragon interrupt to shield your LI from a fatal attack.

RE: OP Yes, I'd be more than fine with it. It was obvious from the beginning that Shep was going to die.

I would accept it, but I would prefer if there was a way to keep Shepard alive.

I don't mind if shep lives or dies. I'm happy with it either way. But you should be able to make that choice, not the endings make it for you

They already used "Shepard died" in ME2 then use it again in ME3.

Don't mind him/her dying if you totally screwed up your choices.
